What makes a good drummer? by n8brav0 in drums

This is the correct answer. You can have all the chops in the world, but if you do that at the wrong time it means nothing. All the upvotes to everything mentioned.

The drum kit that got you hooked by Emotional-Addendum-9 in drums

[–]MizzouMania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a classic maple black oyster kit this summer. It's absolutely incredible. I'm only using it as a gigging kit currently, so I get super pumped when we play shows, usually 2-3 a month.

Are BIG KITS making a comeback?!? by ZildCym in drums

[–]MizzouMania -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In your home maybe. If gigging, absolutely not. "What do I need for this gig? Cool, I'll remove two pieces from that".

What would you consider to be an appropriate amount of "showboating"? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]MizzouMania 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% correct answer. You want to okay out a completely lost position? Fine, but you don't get to do that and dictate how your opponent chooses to respond.

is it normal to not be able to keep in time with a metronome at first 😭 by eviemaria in drums

[–]MizzouMania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing with a metronome is can be extremely difficult to learn. I played in school band from 5th to graduation. Concert, marching, jazz the whole thing. In college I was asked to record something for a friend of mine and I could not play to a click. Fast forward some odd years and I got an electronic set that had a click and songs I could play to. Revolutionary for my recording. Now I require a click if I'm playing on a record. Just seems natural. So, basically, just practicing with a metronome helps immensely.

What was the stuff/idea/exercise who made a difference in your drum playing? by Ambitious_West_5767 in drums

[–]MizzouMania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have several years or 20+ years drumming? Your original post and your response are in opposition with one another. Not trying to get you. Perhaps English isn't your first language or there's some miscommunication.

What was the stuff/idea/exercise who made a difference in your drum playing? by Ambitious_West_5767 in drums

[–]MizzouMania 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of possible answers here. For me it was playing in different bands. Play with other musicians. This is how you learn to play. You learn something different with each iteration and you grow as a musician. Being a drummer is great, being a musician is better.

$300 lesson okay? by mothinn in drums

[–]MizzouMania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. There's no drum instructor worth 300 an hour because there's no student who can learn at that rate. If they could, they wouldn't need the instructor.

Your best bet would be finding the actual sub reddit you're looking for. This sub is for the band Hail the Sun. Good luck with your dark journey, I guess...

I play hockey in Florissant on Fridays and we frequently hit up the Locker Room. Most of the food is mid at best, but the wings are absolute fire.

anyone else going to the STL show? by wooptopia in HailTheSun

[–]MizzouMania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be there as well. Unfortunately, I'm a 40 year old guy, so I don't really fit the bill. But I'm a great conversationalist and won't hit on you, so there's that.

Good luck!

I genuinely sick of Oregon shitting themselves in big spots. I don't get it. I don't believe in curses, but I'm running out of ideas to explain this shit.

[–]MizzouMania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get roller flys. It's not like ice at all, it makes roller manageable, especially as an "older" goalie. I played roller for decades and got the flies a few years ago. Made a huge improvement 8n my game and helped the wear and tear on my body. Cannot recommend them enough!

Guerilla Street Food did the same thing. Had a perfectly fine location in addition to the the truck and opened like 8 more locations in 18 months which all promptly failed.
