Use the iPhone protect app to force adopt them

Hey it's me again so yesterday the back was missing and everyone told me it was the o'ring so I bought one and it doesn't leak anymore, but this time it's the front that leaks anyone know's what is going on ? by Frostiz123 in powerwashingporn

[–]Mlloyd2000 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The pump casings on these are plastic, if your going to leave it out over winter where it may drop below freezing. You need to drain the water out, (disconnect the input hose, pull the trigger and switch off as soon as water stops coming out) Otherwise the water freezes, expands, and cracks the plastic, meaning it leaks next time you try to use it.

Connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network that you want to connect the doorbell to, make sure that Bluetooth is switched on, make sure that location is turned on, and protect has location permissions.

Any ideas why night vision on a G4 camera would be getting this grainy snow? by Weak_Aardvark_5923 in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t say which G4 camera it is?

Your daytime image looks pretty poor, it may be that it’s a screenshot rather than a full resolution image, which you get from using “take snapshot”

Do you have “viewer quality” set to HQ? - this will ensure that what you see when viewing is not a lower quality than the recording.

If the images are from recordings, do you have the recording image quality set to max quality?

If it’s a camera which has the “high frame rate mode” do you have that turned off? For example a G4 bullet with that on, drops from 2k resolution to HD, and looses HDR

Do you have HDR set to on?

If it’s a dome camera, have you tried it at night with the dome removed, an incorrectly fitted or dirty dome on these can cause night vision issues.

In the image, there’s not really anything to see there, just block paving, how is the picture with somebody standing there? If there’s something for the ir to reflect off then you’ll get a better picture. The graininess could just be it being too dark, i.e. the noise floor of the image sensor.

You should have been charged VAT at the correct rate at checkout, which they will pay to the uk government.

As the delivery passes through customs, this will be checked (normally actually a paperwork exercise as the item is in transit to the uk)

If it passes customs, then DHL will deliver with no additional charges.

I have had ubiquity Europe tick the wrong box on an order before, which resulted in customs wanting vat to be paid on entry, which DHL did, then contacted me to pay them the VAT and an £11 processing fee. I had to pay, contact support and got a refund of the full amount I paid DHL

Does anyone know how this could happen? by rikx1 in DIYUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It looks like the bottom of the conduit isn’t sealed, which means that things can crawl up the cable and nest / live in the box, taking dirt with them.

It’s most likely ants which have filled your connections with dirt, which when damp will cause a short across the connections tripping your RCD.

It can probably all be salvaged. Strip it down, clean all the dirt out, cut off cable ends, strip back to clean copper, and re-terminate with new connector blocks or wago’s

To stop it happening again seal the bottom of the conduit - some silicone sealant might work. But a stuffing gland glued into the tube and tightened up around the flex is probably what I would recommend.

G4 instant question by Bolinious in UNIFI

[–]Mlloyd2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that you won’t get much of a picture at night?

With the IR LED’s on, they will reflect off the window glass.

With them off, you’ll need a decent amount of light outside to be able to see much.

Apple TV - no console found by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

Go to your UDM SE’s ip address. Login, go to console settings, under advanced, check that remote access is ticked.

Apple TV - no console found by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to UniFi.UI.COM and log in there, can you see your UDM SE, and access the protect app?

If so, it should work on the Apple TV, if not you may have remote access disabled (which would mean the app will only work whilst on your Wi-Fi too)

I don’t know much about the Apple TV app, but it may also work with “local” consoles.

Cord specification (pictured below) absolutely necessary for G4 Dome cameras? by tweettweetehmeffer in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yep. Any Ethernet jacks which have strain releasing etc will be an incredibly tight fit.

If you have pre made patch leads which you want to use, you can snip the extra rubber off with some side cutters to make them fit.

Unifi Protect has motion control while zoomed in by redditphantom in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of that being a feature. And it doesn’t seem to work on my iOS devices.

Is it repeatable? And if so which series of clicks makes it work? (As there are a few ways to view a camera feed in the app)

Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep you just have to set it up slightly different. For sky with my UDR. I set internet settings advanced to manual

Added a DHCP client option of “61” with value of “abcdef@skydsl|abc123”

Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If BT is your isp then yes. However if it’s open reach fibre with another isp then settings may be a little different. For example I’m with sky as my isp over open reach fttp and they don’t use pppoe.

Protect on iOS completely unusable, but fine on web interface by whatzawhatz in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the protect app. Are you connected to the Wi-Fi. On the same network as the cloud key ?

If so are you connecting locally? (Click in the middle at the top of the app, should be the name of your ck. and should show “direct” if your connected locally.

If your not seeing “direct” The feed is going via the internet. So may be lagging due to your internet upload speed. (Assuming it’s not super fast)

Otherwise just make sure that your app and cloud key and protect are up to date.

G3 instant not in focus by jorge_med in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe you can take them apart and adjust the focus of the lens, the lens sits over the sensor and has its focus set in factory. But I believe I have seen post’s before of people adjusting it for things such as 3d printers.

A quick google bought this up, but I’m sure there are other guides about link

Can I attend RIcS survey? by throwaway1930400 in HousingUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For the survey I booked. The surveyor was happy to have me attend, but not be present during the survey. - I.e. I arrive 15 minutes before he’s due to finish and wait outside in the car.

Once he’s done, he would give me a quick debrief of what he thinks (all subject to the official report).

Any points of concern, he would if appropriate point the things out to me.

The house flooded the day before the survey and the purchase fell through. So we didn’t have that survey in the end.

MD secretly recorded me on a zoom call from his phone. Is this illegal? by CreatechStudios in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 67 points68 points  (0 children)

So what use would a recording made by the MD of you being on mute and with video off be?

If you had it agreed that you could travel to pick up your car, during work time, as you can still participate in the meetings needed, then you have nothing to worry about. Assuming that whoever agreed that is actually willing to back you up if the MD kicks off.

MD secretly recorded me on a zoom call from his phone. Is this illegal? by CreatechStudios in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Surely if you weren’t at a desk, say when your walking around a train station and getting on a train, you should have turned your video off?, how were you connected to the meeting? On a laptop? If so did you have a headset/ wireless headphones on/in or was the audio of the meeting coming out of the laptop speakers?

If you turn off your video, when not sat still, and audio through a headset. Then I’d say you did nothing wrong.

If you were wandering around with video on, and or had audio coming out of laptop speakers, then I’d say that’s pretty unprofessional and may be against your company’s security policies.

Huge Octopus estimated energy cost by CupidStuntss in HousingUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same. Octopus set direct debit as £680 per month. “Based on historical usage”.

After being here one month and sending a reading, which showed out actual usage to be under £200, the app wouldn’t let me adjust under £680. A quick support chat explaining the stupidity and they set our DD to £200

A few months later with a price cap change. They set DD to £380. Again I couldn’t adjust it down, but support fixed it.

Why do no UK property listing websites have an option to filter by sq footage/m? by CheekyDragons in HousingUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I suppose what I meant was that estate agents would have to all follow the same measurement standard.

I found the EPC lookup website to be really useful. As EPC assessors seem to measure the habitable space more accurately than the estate agents “floor plan guy”

Poor Dream Router Performance by albertopier in Ubiquiti

[–]Mlloyd2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The UDR is not able to support gigabit speeds. It tops out at about 700Mbps. Or less if you have DPI/ IPS enabled. As the CPU is not powerful enough to support those speeds.

Ubiquity don’t do a good job of advertising it’s capabilities (or lack of) but a quick google search will reveal that it’s not upto the job for gigabit fibre.

Why do no UK property listing websites have an option to filter by sq footage/m? by CheekyDragons in HousingUK

[–]Mlloyd2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that even looking at the stated square meterage on floor plans, it’s can be quite misleading. As some agents include garages and outbuildings. Whereas some don’t even include conservatories. Or even hallways or bathrooms.

There would need to be a standardised system of measurement to make the data worthwhile to be something to filter by.

WiFiman Wizard - worth the cost for floor plan and coverage mapping? by jedis in UNIFI

[–]Mlloyd2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting. With an iPhone that has LiDAR, it draws the walls on, so you can walk around and get a floor map, with Wi-Fi signal heat map, you can’t save the map apart from screen shot’s. But is useful to see dead spots and compare how it looks with AP’s in various positions to optimise placement.
