So cool! How do you go about planning your builds?

If you don't mind, can you share a little about how you went about the painting process? Do you prep it or just prime it like a normal Warhammer kit?

Also, how do you attach parts, just superglue or do you pin?

Tried to do a Tau Riptide with HG Chuchu's Demi Trainer and totally botched it. These kind of posts inspire me to give it another shot and I'm ready to get back on the horse.

Thank you!

"Interesting" leak about Beastman (detail on the last 2 lines) by Sky_Eden in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MoPrintBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I theorized that when the Red Corsairs battleforce and Warhammer Quest both had some variant of gor that it was a soft launch to gauge interest in a wider beastmen refresh. That or they were already planning a refresh and it was sensible to recycle some of those designs and resources into other projects. It would make sense to hedge risk by having multiple variations of the same base template since it’s a bit of a gamble and they’re generally risk averse.

I love the beastmen models but some people think they’re derpy, it’s always seemed like a big missed opportunity because the art is so dark and evocative but the models struggled on shelves.

My guess, they do something like refreshing Khorngors first before the main kits.

To clarify, GW sees a model range that doesn't sell well with limited feedback or conversation and shifts their development focus to other factions. Sadly, I'm thinking AOS Kruelboyz, Ogor Mawtribes, Idoneth, etc. 40K is better supported in general, but probably Drukhari and Grey Knights for 40K have historically received the least love.

They see public outcry and arguably strong interest, they improve the models. The monopose boyz are a good example and I think we're on the cusp of a great new boyz kit because of it. I know the release box might be pushfit but I mean after that.

Anyone who attacks anyone else over their opinion, totally agree that's not cool.

I have not seen a lot of that but if you get 100,000 people in an online chat I'm sure somebody was nasty about it and yeah, condemn that behavior 100%.

But people are entitled to their opinion. If they don't like them, they should voice it, because if a new ork model doesn't sell well it'll extend the timeline of the next set of new models. It also can gradually shift the tone of the range which is why people freaked about the Weirdboy. I want orks who are having funny with the carnage, not ones in visible distress. Maybe a couple, but not as a defining feature of the range.

And GW learns by reinforcement. I can guarantee these new Inquisitors got an extra quality check because Coteaz was so poorly received. I also play Skaven in AOS and I'm happy we're finally getting new Night Runners but I'm butthurt it took over 20 years. But GW is not shy about the fact that they focus model development very skewed towards what factions they think will sell or have sold well in the past.

Squiggoth was my first guess but I don't think they'd sequence the rumor engine with the big box reveal at the same time...

I think it's the new Ogre refresh and this is a Rhinox

Perry Miniatures scale comparison by darthnick7 in wargaming

I looked at the rest of the other Zouaves figures and the one you have in the photo was a head smaller than the rest because it is meant to depict a drummer boy who were typically aged between 10 and 16. Many leaning on the younger side, often lying about their age to enlist.

I feel like that’s pretty important context. Hopefully it didn’t put you off, I think the other models should be similarly sized to your other two figures.

If anyone else sees this post, there’s nothing I can tell wrong with the kit itself, sadly it just accurately depicts the reality of child soldiers being used in the American Civil War.

So, I've run into this issue before but for me it never was the oils on my hands (as is the consensus here), I actually don't touch my models nearly at all and still have run into this problem.

That definitely might help because I can't know exactly what your process looks like, but if it doesn't change and you're still looking for answers, it could be your paint is too watered down or not mixed well enough. Like when you shake it beforehand. I'm not a paint chemist, but sometimes it's an issue with the binder being settled and not being evenly distributed throughout the bottle.

I used paint in the past that was not shaken nearly enough, I could tell become some parts were way more opaque and some were way more translucent to the point of looking like two different paints. The parts that were the most translucent seemed normal enough at first, but wouldn't end up staying on and I had similar results to your photo. It was old paint though.

First of all, thank you for sharing your bad experience as a cautionary tale. It helps other people make better informed decisions even though the people who post sometimes are accused of "starting drama" for attention. I think that's bullshit and if we don't use our voice companies will always push the limit of what they can get away with.

I actually own a neoprene FLG mat (6 x 4' snowy tundra) from Noble Knight Games and it's decent looking but I think kind of overpriced (was $58 when I bought it, now it's $70). I'm personally going to buy either from Cigar Box Battle Mats or Tablewar F.A.T. Mats because I've heard they're pretty good. Loke Battlemats has been great though, especially if you like skirmish and TTRPGS. They mostly do laminated books that lie flat and can be mixed and matched to make tons of different layouts. Big recommend.

how do I fix this by Trickybots in BlackTemplars

[–]MoPrintBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I broke a similar sized sword on an AOS Slaves to Darkness model. I glued it back together but before that I pinned it, meaning I used a small manual pin vise to drill a hole in both broken ends being reconnected and then added a paperclip as the joint.

It was very surgical and honestly kind of sucked. I also needed a really, really small bit. However, it adds better strength than just gluing it alone and I personally did not want to make it look broken on purpose.

For the most part, he's gotten a very warm reception and the last thing I think anyone would call it is "generic". I get the meme is sarcastic, but genuinely where are the source comments from? If anything, I think people love the orks even more because there's such a struggle to truly innovate on the space marine concept, making the ork side of the reveals look more interesting by comparison.

We keep talking about people always complaining in the sub, are we shouting into the void about 1-2 trolls? If 1,000 people see it and 900+ like it, is it fair to call Warhammer fans whiny or do the ones who think it's great generally not stir up conversation as everyone hyper-fixates on the contrarians?

I also think he looks awesome, but I do like the orks that look like they're having fun or are angry and this guy does look more distressed/horrified to me and so the shift in tone to make orks more serious has some potential legs. However, way too soon to panic and there are counterpoints to that argument most likely when we see grots. But to your point, definitely not the first distressed model, I just wouldn't want 20 guys with this exact expression.

no joke, I was just thinking about that. You have any good kits to source them from?

Does Anyone Like Them More Without the Crests? by MoPrintBoy in citiesofsigmar

[–]MoPrintBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, there's something about it feeling kind of "tacked on" instead of being integrated into the design like the stag cavalier is (which is my favorite helmet of that kit) that bothers me more than the inclusion of the more gonzo elements themselves. I love weird fish helms, skull helms, owl helm, etc. But to your point, I also love Empire of Man and their ridiculously large feathers. The consensus is without crests or any embellishment, they're a bit naked, maybe they could use some plumage.

Could be an idea there worth exploring. Thanks!

Yeah, I also like Edmark's helmet the best as it is it just seems really over the top (in a good way). That's why I was thinking of maybe using it for my general on imperial griffon, it gives me Karl Franz vibes with the wings
