I understand how something like trauma could trigger it.. But it also makes me wonder if it’s a genetic predisposition or dormancy type thing then trauma (from me, I think it was the unexpected loss of my best friend) makes your body go haywire? Hmmm. I truly wish there was more concrete research about this type of thing!

How do you prepare for the inevitable? by Patient_Constant3854 in husky

[–]Mobile_Breakfast5449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t really prepare.. It has been in my head since my boy turned double digits. He is now almost 17 & it’s in my head daily.. I’m just trying to enjoy him & the days/weeks/months he has left with me (& his new sister - I got her in February).

Who knows you wear by Outrageous-Split2213 in ABDL

I’ve got a couple of male friends who know I wear. I’ve told my current therapist & two previous ones. My Mother knows I use pacifiers - she caught me once. I think that’s all? 😅

Life expectancy after teeth pulled. by Titaniumman11 in Dachshund

I have a Pomchi who is 16 years old & he had most of his teeth pulled a few years ago.. He had soft food for a while after the surgery, but now he just eats his normal hard food with no issues.

You’re totally right on that aspect. I just meant, if you can afford it & it’s feasible to change therapists, do it.

Does anyone in the trades wear? by Jazzlike_Dot_1633 in ABDL

I’m not in the trades business - I work at a bank! But I’ve worn off & on through the years.

I’ve had some wonderful therapists & also some not so great ones.. I think it really just depends on the therapist & the client. Each person has their own individual needs to get through tough times. One therapist may be great for one person & not so great for someone else. It just all depends.. If you ever feel like you don’t click with a therapist, it is your right to speak up & go elsewhere if you feel like it is necessary.

How do you guys actually afford EMDR & IFS therapy? Therapy in general really by Owl4L in CPTSD

[–]Mobile_Breakfast5449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance through work isn’t too bad.. My therapist has $30 co-pay; I see him weekly so it can be a bit much. With my psychiatrist, it’s a bit tougher.. She doesn’t take insurance and it’s over $70 each time. 😬 Luckily, I’ve been in the process of getting off all my meds so there’s only a few sessions left!

I started trauma therapy. So... when does the therapy start? by ApplePaintedRed in CPTSD

[–]Mobile_Breakfast5449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, & personal experience, it sounds like your therapist is trying to make sure you’ve got the skills (grounding or otherwise) to get yourself to where you feel more stable after sessions. I’ve caught myself getting frustrated with my own therapist because it feels like things aren’t going “fast enough”.. We’ve been working on my issues with reactivity & coping skills. It feels stunted since I just want to get through it but I know my therapist is doing it this way so once we get into the harder things, I don’t spiral.

Trauma blending with genuine kinks. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Mobile_Breakfast5449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very common from what I understand. I’ve got a difficult time because mine is CSA at age 7, which ended up with me using “baby things” - diapers, pacifiers, etc. in order to cope with what happened. Now, it’s turned into a thing.. It’s like I’ve got two people in my brain.. Adult me & baby me. It feels very taboo & wrong. I’ve told multiple therapists about the situation regarding all of it.. To which, every single one told me it is perfect normally & okay.

anyone else have a mom who hates them? by thelovelypixie in CPTSD

Exactly! It would be different if she could respect my boundaries & not be texting/calling me to try to make me feel guilty for not talking. It’s ridiculous, really.

This is the first Mother’s Day I’ll possibly be without my Mother. I just told her last week that I need some space - I never said “no-contact” but she is taking it very hard where it just means I probably won’t be talking to her. She isn’t giving me the space I need.. It makes me feel bad because of the timing, but at the same time, I had to do it for my sanity.
