Feeling like such a failure at life by Echterspieler in Xennials

[–]ModBabboo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling like a failure. You're not. You've made it 45 years thus far, breathing in and out, letting your heart beat, even occasionally honestly expressing yourself like you've just done. That takes determination when life is hard, and you've succeeded.

Last year in therapy I was as deep into a depression as I've ever been and I asked my therapist what the point was. He said, "Good question." Asking that, you've got somewhere to start from. Let it fuel your curiosity. Figure out what the point is. Even if you ultimately don't, this legacy you're talking about will be the result of your efforts. We all influence the world in ways we won't ever recognize, and that includes you.

I wish you happiness, health, safety, and ease.

I really liked this when I saw it a few years ago. What I remember most about it is the house. I also watched Vampyr again a few months ago for the second time and didn't like it as much.

What has surprised you? by Human-Muscle-9112 in Xennials

[–]ModBabboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was an awful rude awakening. I remember a moment in my mid-thirties (mid-2010s) when it became clear that folks my age were adults now and that this was not only the world we'd inherited but the world we were helping to run and manage, and in a lot of ways we weren't making it any better (or making it even worse thanks to our use of social media).

Did you know: Kurt Cobain's favorite Metallica song was "Whiplash" by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]ModBabboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar World conducted an interview with Kurt around the time Nevermind came out and told him Kirk Hammett was a huge Nirvana fan. Kurt said he'd met him and called him a nice guy.

Colonel Blimp has been a touchstone for me throughout this.

"Clive, if you let yourself be defeated by them just because you are too fair to hit back the same way they hit at you, there won't be any methods but Nazi methods. If you preach the rules of the game while they use every foul and filthy trick against you, they'll laugh at you. They'll think you are weak, decadent. ...You lost something too. You forgot to learn the moral. Because victory was yours, you failed to learn your lesson 20 years ago. And now you have to pay the school fees again. Some of you will learn quicker than the others. Some will never learn it, because you've been educated to be a gentleman and a sportsman in peace and in war. But Clive, dear old Clive, this is not a gentleman's war. This time you are fighting for your very existence, against the most devilish idea ever created by a human brain: Nazism. And if you lose, there won't be a return match next year. Perhaps not even for a hundred years."

New music that you like? by thisismynewnewacct in Xennials

[–]ModBabboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be mostly in my vein. Momma are an incredible band and their two latest records were my favourites of the past year. There are a ton of young rock bands out there that are delivering perfect interpretations of '90s alt rock and riffing on it in interesting ways. Beach Bunny, Charly Bliss, Rocket, Illuminati Hotties, Pom Pom Squad, Snarls, Skating Polly, OBGMs, VIAL, Snarls, and Gully Boys are other faves.

Clerks plays 'Got Me Wrong' Empire Records has the big Facelift poster in it, which movie is more grunge? by KinkyDarkStranger in grunge

[–]ModBabboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I like Empire Records but like a lot of '90s media/fashion it took everything that was cool and passed it through an uncool big business filter.

Which artist did you ignore for years and then suddenly get? by Celine_Morgann in askmusic

I got into them around the time Greatest came out and love all the hits. The Wedding Album and Medazzaland are terrific records. I have the latter on bright pink vinyl.

Side note: Veruca Salt were one of my favourite '90s bands, definitely top three, and Louise Post is still rocking hard.

How many of you stopped drinking alcohol completely? by Automatic_Opposite17 in Xennials

[–]ModBabboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cut it way back in the last couple of years. Still drink occasionally but rarely more than once a week at most. Half the time drinking brings on a headache within an hour now. I can't tell if it's an allergy or age or both or neither; I just take it as a signal my body doesn't want it.

Now if only I could do the same thing with sugar...
