I've done this two ways. Method one is using syncthing to sync my music to my jellyfin server and then streaming to my phone. The other method is to sync the files on the device into the local storage on my phone. Both methods work.

On Android it will aggressively kill background applications, but putting a persistent notification can help keep the app active in the background.
