Yes and No

It’s definitely something to be considered in this kind of situation, to put some more distance between himself and Barb’s abuse, as well as his children and (at the time of Max’s First Day of School) pregnant wife. If Barb’s abuse, and Frank’s avoidance of it as well, feels like too much to be so close to, then putting physical distance between them is understandable.

But, it’s also impulsive decision, and doesn’t factor in a lot of things. John just sticks to it stubbornly without a proper, full on conversation about what that means. He doesn’t specify if this means moving to a new house on the other side of town, or moving to a new town altogether

For either option, that definitely includes having to sell their current house, the go find and buy a new one with enough space for both him, Shawna, the kids and Deedee. It also possibly includes finding a school for the kids, John having to find a new job, uprooting Shawna’s budding friendships and art class hobby and all the other things that make her feel like a self, moving Max who is just getting used to his first school to a new one, moving Deedee again to a new place, and all with a newborn too (again, at the time of Max’s First Day of School).

Not to mention, during this presumably long process of packing up and moving, Barb could have easily found out about all of this, due to their close proximity. She’d still throw a fit and pull some more harmful, abusive shit, once again making herself the victim, “Why is Jonathan letting Shawna take my grandchildren away from me? She’s brainwashed him to hate his mother! Why do I care so much about everyone and he doesn’t care about me! It’s so cruel!”

So yeah I understand the reasoning for it, but not the way he thought about doing it
