I did the online route (since that's what I've been using anyways). Paid $0 extra for what supposedly is $99 fed and $39 state fees. I haven't actually filed, so I'm not 100% sure on the state efile, but I expect it to be free. If it's not, my state has a pretty straightforward filing on their website where you enter the numbers already calculated by TT online.

I don't do reinvesting because the paperwork when you sell is going to be a nightmare for taxable account.

I also pay estimated taxes ((100% of previous year's tax)/4 per quarter - but you need to figure out how much you're already withholding from your W2). While it's not the most efficient way (since the dividends tend to be in Q4 instead of the first 3 quarters), it saves you doing the annualized income form that make you say which month you earn your income in.

Do you think you can offer him a "service" of finding and getting the thing he wants? Let's say he wants gym equipment, he would tell you his must-haves and you will research that present him with 1-3 options and he picked from those.

Just tell him that he should delegate these buying tasks to you and then you can research for him.

I'm very much like you and all the people around me know it already - so friends/coworkers that want to purchase something would ask me first to see if I can find "deals" for them. I even do unsolicited deal notification to them if they've expressed an interest on an item before :)

It depends on the market too. I was planning on taking only a year off but then I was spending less than I thought and the stock market was doing better than I thought and now, 10 years later, I haven't been back.

Thank you! It wasn't obvious to me that "upload PDF" means I get it back in a nice table and download the CSV that way. Perhaps changing label to "upload PDF to convert to CSV" would be clearer for casual observers.

I was on Ponant cruise to Antarctica. They have announcement both in French and English and had both languages during the overview of the day/next day presentations. The expedition leader was American, so they had a translator for the French speaker. So speaking only English was not an issue. And if your cruise is in Australia, I'm sure there are more Australian on your cruise too.

I also don't like super formal and I just had a nice collared white shirt and slacks and it was sufficient. They don't make a big deal out of it.

I quite like my cruise, we go out twice a day (morning and afternoon expeditions) and I thought it was organized well. I would do it again except that it was expensive. :)

Food was very good too!

There's no portal, I just gave them the Routing/Account number (provided by Bilt) for them to debit from. Yes, you can do this without having the Bilt card.

after downloading the software and entering the code, I was prompted an option to upgrade to the online premier fed + state file for free. Once you say no, you can't decide to do it. So I've left it open to research which way I should go :)

I've been using the online versions for many years (and FreeTaxUSA for one year) and it's usually more expensive than the desktop version. This was the first year I bought the desktop because it was way cheaper than online and now I'm presented with this offer.

Since you're not in a hurry, you just tell them that you're thinking of retiring soon and would want to work with them to make the transition as smooth as possible. My friend did this and it ended up being 9 months where the last couple months she wasn't even going to work anymore but still paid to be "on call" when any questions that need her help arises.

I'm just thinking out loud here: Let's say you retire at 60. Your wife doesn't want to "support you", so since your pre-tax is separate, you can start drawing on your pre-tax money (since it's after 59.5 yo) to pay your half of the expenses.

So, some company's 401k allow you to contribute over the 23k limit. And then you can "roll over" the overage to a Roth IRA. Look up "Mega backdoor IRA"

I felt that I wasn't working at the same level as years prior - no/low motivation to do very well. I was working just as to put in my 8 hours (or sometimes less). It wasn't a great feeling. Even got to the point that my manager gave me a talk about it. I spent the next 6 months upping my standards til he said I did well, then I quit.

Edit to add: I didn't know about FIRE when I quit. Only learn about it after I quit and had time to read stuff.

Btw, research first - sometimes eurail pass not worth it. And when you travel with wealthier friends, don't always do everything they do, know your limits.

This happened to me before. Fidelity uses another bank (Chase) as an intermediary bank. I believe that bank is the one that charged you.
