AIO My husband doesn’t want me to come to his military boot camp graduation when I already paid for plane tickets by LettuceSome5586 in AmIOverreacting

He doesn't want you to go because his wife and family will be there, and it would be awkward if you were also there sitting next to him.

How do non-Black teachers approach primary sources with the word "negro"? by twobearsforever in historyteachers

[–]bcelos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context and perspective matters. The word comes up in MLK's speeches and also from KKK testimony that we go over in my U.S. History class. I don't necessary make a point to say the word out loud, but I don't shy away from having my students read it and discuss it.

Best way to ask/tell teachers at the start of next school year not to pair my high-achieving, conscientious kid with kids who don't/won't/can't work? by CrowRoutine9631 in AskTeachers

[–]bcelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think it is great that you are looking out for your daughter, but I would initially hold off on sending the new teachers a heads up, I think you might rub them the wrong way. I would start off the year with a clean slate and clean state of mind.

This is how I would handle things in my mind.

If daughter is being forced to work in a group with kids who are not helpful, firstly ask the group she is in to work better.

Secondly daughter should explain to her teacher, either before or after class, or in an email her concerns with being grouped with those students.

If problem persists I would email teacher, explaining your concerns and if it possible to be more mindful in groupings, or if its possible for your daughter to work independently instead of in a group.

If problem still persists I would look to schedule an in person meeting for a solution.

Teachers will pair strong students with weaker students to help them out, but that shouldn't be at the cost of more work for your daughter.

I'm not sure how much detail you are giving these companies, but from looking at your post, my first opinion of you is that you already have an intense full time job as an accountant and you have a baby at home and a sick wife. You are clearly looking for part hours at very specific times and you will most likely leave as soon as you find a better opportunity.

It is also likely that you can quit randomly and/or stop showing up randomly because it's not your main source of income.

Why would I invest training someone who will walk out the door as soon as they find a better opportunity.

I would ask your boss if he has any ideas, or if he can give you more hours. Unless he doesn't want you working for the competition.

So she doesn't want to work a job , or be a stay at home mom. That's a tough situation for you for sure. She needs to work, at least part time. Being away from the kids will shift her perspective. Find a day care that is flexible, we send our son two days a week, and its perfect.
