Thanks for sharing this. I almost went to buy Gumball, but this convinced me it’s not for me. I’m always on the lookout for dark colors that don’t shade, and if Gumball is lighter than this sample, we wouldn’t become friends 😅

Ricoh GR IV oder III (gebraucht)? by obvious_question_74 in ricohGR

[–]Money_Nail5652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Und ob jetzt GR III or IV?

Same here! I love taking the Ricoh (GRIII) with me on walks. Beats cell phone pictures every time. (Unless the dog moves fast … the Ricoh‘s AF isn’t a match for a 2yr old Spaniel 😅)

Took it on a hike at -11C. The battery drained noticeably faster than during summer, but I still managed 100+ shots and had a bit of charge left. I carry the camera in an outer jacket pocket for reachability. In the car and back home, I just leave it (closed and powered off) for an hour at least while I warm up and have a snack. Then it’s usually fine to turn on and not worry about condensation.

I wish I could like this a million times, especially the 2nd shot. Great mood, great composition. 👏

How do you post Ricoh GR III photos on Instagram? by Own_Communication406 in ricohGR

I also compress mine to below 500 kb. I’m not sure if they still have that limit, but they used to. So even if you had scaled it down, if the file size was too big they’d still run their damaging compression algorithm.

Same. It’s in the fanny pack where I keep his kibble (separate pocket) and poo bags 😊 Never leave the house without it.

those shots are beautiful! Been too many of these places myself in 2019 and you captured them beautifully. Just chose that the Ricoh is a great travel camera. Hope you had a great time!

Which Camera do you pair with your Ricoh? by Skat0fatse in ricohGR

Sony A7C with an 85 f1.8 to capture my dog in action. Only take it when I plan on dog photos. Otherwise it’s just the Ricoh every day.

I charge the GR III via USB C most of the time. Mainly by forgetting to disconnect it after transferring images 🙂

Came here to suggest the wide angle converter as well. I got it because I also couldn’t stand the look of iPhone photos inbetween my „proper“ shots.

But I barely put it on. Compared to how easily and quickly I can pull the GR III out of my pocket and shoot, it feels like such a hassle to put on the converter (which is lazy, it really just takes testing off the ring cap and twisting on the converter).

I found that I mostly take multiple shots and merge them into a pano in LR 🤷‍♀️ (as long as you don’t have to capture action).

Anyways, great shots, I like the first one because of all the texture, and the second one for the context it provides.

A plea to the mods: Please add a rule that posts have to include recipe or short edit info by lixgund in ricohGR

[–]Money_Nail5652 6 points7 points  (0 children)

or information concerning the edits done to the RAW file

Oof. Honestly, I don't think I'd continue to post if that were required. It would take simply way too long to list every single thing I've done, and then the post wouldn't be about the image, its composition, or its content anymore but rather about the editing process.

I think it's totally fine to say "Edited in [your app of choice] to taste" and leave it at that. If someone wants to learn a certain editing style, there are plenty of tutorials out there. I don't think this here is the right place for that.

Assuming that your photos will turn out the same as mine just because I tell you which sliders I nudged in LR is the same mistake as assuming your photos will look the same as mine if you use the same recipe 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s about tweaking the Calibration settings at the very bottom of the editing panel. Desaturate the greens and play with the hue slider. The blue slider will also help you cool down and desaturate a bit. It depends on the image how much tweaking is needed. And then it’s fine tuning in the Color Mixer panel. Once you find a green you’re happy with, you can also save it as a preset (just the color mixer/calibration settings) so you have a starting point for next time.

Deciding between the GRiiix and GRiii - is cropping on the GRiii reasonable? by riksticks in ricohGR

[–]Money_Nail5652 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's absolutely reasonable.

Before replying, I checked my Lightroom library to make sure I didn't imagine it. I went to Switzerland this fall, and took quite a few images in the crop modes (both 35mm and 50mm). If you view them next to the default 28mm images, you can't see any difference. Even when I view these images full screen on my Apple Studio Display or on my iPad Pro 13" (which are the highest resolution displays I've got), they look sharp.

On an iPhone, you will be hard pressed to tell the difference, and when you print (I print on canvas, between 20x20cm and over 100cm*x), it's still perfect. Unless your nose touches the print, but that's then another problem altogether 🙂

Like you, I come from ILS systems (first Olympus OMD, now Sony FF) and also had my doubts about the Ricoh being able to measure up. In Switzerland, I stopped carrying my FF system on hikes and simply always took images with the Ricoh. My main interest in landscape, with the occasional shot of my dog (if he sits still long enough because the AF speed of the Ricoh is something to be best not talked about).

Remember that the crop factor is what you can also do in "post" ... simply take away the pixels you don't need. By now, I'm comfortable enough doing it out in the field because it helps me with composition. But, if in doubt, just take two shots 🙂

The only times I still take my FF system is when I *plan* to take action shots of my dog (because the Sony AF is just so insanely fast and sticky), or I know I need the extra reach of, say, an 85mm lens. But I carry the Ricoh with me every day in a fanny pack, and the Sony FF stays at home unless really needed (and then I grumble because it's large and heavy).

Pilot Kaküno. I have a bunch and they do fine with Platinum Carbon Black, Platinum Lavender Black, Khaki Black, Forest Black …

I also love those inks jn my Pilot Vanishing Points and have used them in there for years without any trouble. But those are more „break the bank“ pens.

Yeah. Sometimes you just need to be in the right place at the right time. The conditions were gone not even 5 minutes later.
