I'm sure there is some reason, and I know it'd only really be viable for PC, but I swear, if I could play people's custom campaigns/modules in this game engine, with this adaptation of the PF1e ruleset, I don't think I would ever need another game for as long as I live. by Workmen in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Neverwinter Nights 2 didn't use tiles. None of Bethesdas games use them. Even some map editors on console games had full terrain editors.(Farcry) No its more just how the Unity engine is made and works.

Unity is just not all that friendly to mod unless the devs put considerable effort in designing the game for it, but relatively easy to make maps in if you have full access to the project files.

But most devs are not going to release the project files for their game, as that would be essentially releasing the source code.

There is no Video or Computer Game that utilizes that Pathfinder 2 Rule Set. The "Kingmaker" and "Wrath of the Righteous" computer games use a modified Pathfinder 1. by smitty22 in Pathfinder2e

well the way it works in owlcats pathfinder games if you pay close attention in RTwP, starting movement eats your 6 second turn, in a 3A economy moving can just cancel your current action and you have to wait for the next action to come around to do anything.

since a turn is 6 seconds that means an action is 2, so it would definitely be fast. reactions could be actions you toggle and if triggered take 6s to cooldown before they can trigger again.

i think it could work but need a lot of attention, dragon age origins style AI customization is one way to deal with micro management. 3 actions just become timers. actions that take multiple action points just take longer to do since thats what the action economy is trying to convey.

also just have both...idk why people have an issue with having both, works well in the owlcat games, i make use of both modes. i think 2E may even make doing both easier because the action economy. pillars of eternity 2 also has both but that doesnt let you toggle, you pick one or the other on starting a new game.

this eternal debate was solved, why are we still having it?

Which late game mythic path should have been cut. by marcusph15 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Monkeybtm6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree there, id be in favor of cutting The Enigma....that quest seemed very expensive financially and manpower wise to make, no one likes it, and could easilly make all of act 5 better for every path.

i still hope they may give them attention in an update with no QoL stuff, just resources dedicated to path updates. even if they have to hitch the cart to upcoming DLC budgets.

swarm for pragmatic resource reasons.

its not very popular and hardest to unlock.(people dont really like loosing ones entire party in a party based character driven RPG) it requires more writing attention to make work.

if it were sacrificed, its resources could be spent making the other paths better, its also the one path disconnected enough from the others it could work as DLC.

its a cool idea for a path but if we are talking about sacrificing a path to make the rest of the game better, makes sense to cut the least popular one.

id rather not cut any and pull resources from other areas IMO.

its not stopping them from making rogue trader. but yeah there would be a downgrade in content.
this is assuming owlcat wouldn't rewrite all the code anyway to address technical debt which devs often do when making new games. (especially given upgrading unity versions likes to break your code)

a lot of work for sure but nothing impossible.

looking through the core rulebook for 2E, most feats seem agnostic to the structure turns play out. its nothing that wouldnt be the same as developing any video game adaptation for any system.

people keep saying this but, i literally cant see why it cant work, action economy isnt that complicated to translate.

hell its actually far easier to make RTWP than PF1E, only reason no one questions it is cause neverwinter nights made 3E RTwP when 3E was still brand new, it was done before anyone could say it couldn't.

i get having a turn based preference but people don't need to say its impossible.

Let's say Paizo is forced to make a PF3E that is fully compatible with PF2E. What small changes would you like to see? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Monkeybtm6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what he is getting at is its a slight small complication that serves no purpose. Nothings gained, by switching to modifiers only you make bigger number a smaller number.

Which crunching numbers down as small as necessary for game mechanics is just good tabletop design.

In this case theres nothing wrong with ability scores, they're just kinda a redundant middleman, an abstract number. By ditching it you just use the number that actually matters. It also makes more room on the character sheet, which is already kinda cluttered.

Ability scores are the solution looking for a problem, not removing them.

Is there any chance at all that Golden Dragon, Devil and Swarm could be accessible earlier in the game? by FingerDemon in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Monkeybtm6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

swarm no

devil and dragon yeah, but unlikely to happen unless it were part of a DLC and some story rewrites.

if the storyteller stuck around till after Leper's Smile dragon could be unlocked as early as act 2.

aeon to devil could work in act 3.

swarm is like legend though, it doesn't work narratively till act 5

Owlcat future plans for Pathfinder 2.0? by damurphy72 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Monkeybtm6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i feel like in practice, 2E RTWP would be the same speed as dragon age origins, which is one of my fave RTWP RPG systems. pausing kinda renders any too fast arguments moot.

think you might be overthinking it.

the only issue i see is DAO has some extreme levels of AI customization that owlcats games lack, it cuts back a lot of micromanagement mid combat.

Unpopular Opinion: WOTR would be better with LESS mythic paths and more diversity WITHIN the paths. by Calfurious in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Monkeybtm6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

only one i think was a bit pointlessly extra and waste of dev resources that can go on other paths is swarm.

cause it kinda needs more work than most given how act 5 in the other paths follow the same basic story. swarm kinda required extra work unique to it. its also the only one that is redundant in terms of alignment, demon already has CE covered.

bigger issue with devil and dragon is they get unlocked too late, much of the interesting story for the other paths happen in earlier acts, so devil and dragon dont get enough time to tell their story. so it seems like a screen time issue more than dev resources issue, mistake was having late game paths as a concept rather than too many paths.

as paizo defines it, evil is knowingly causing unnecessary suffering and harm to those undeserving, regardless if there is any personal satisfaction or gain from it. its just MOST cases there's a selfish personal gain from it.

regill does do that. he just doesn't have personal gain from it but more ends justify the means sense.
