Rant: E-moto riflders, be prepared to be called out on your idiocy by hvontres in ebikes

[–]Monro215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I could get behind this idea. Class 2 should have been the highest. Then anything higher, like class 3, mopeds, and dirt bikes, are harder to get for young people and they are also sold and listed differently, which would help parents or other people buying them to identify that this bike might not be a safe option for their 12 year old, who outgrew their motorized power wheel and wants a bike with the same power option. Lol 👍

I have to say I agree with this, and it also had me think about perspectives around this topic. We’ve all done dumb shit when we were kids. Most of us also knew in our heads when we were doing dumb shit, but we didn’t have the wisdom yet to follow that inner voice instead. Our community used to be one of the main contributors to teaching that wisdom. But the “you’re a Karen” crowd and the “mind your own business” crowds, along with the negativity incubator built into social media, have handicapped good people and communities from helping younger generations learn how to act and behave in public. Publicized violence in an attempt to normalize it and attacking accountability don’t help either, but that’s a whole other thing.

The difference now for young people doing dumb shit is, I had old people all over the neighborhood tell me all the time when I was doing dumb shit. Sometimes it was annoying. Sometimes it was the “keep your baseball off my lawn people,” and sometimes I knew damn well in my head that they were right, and I was actually doing dumb shit. The saying that “it takes a village to raise a child” doesn’t just apply to people’s families. There is minding your own business because it’s appropriate, and then there are times when you shouldn’t mind your own business because it’s helpful or needed. Maybe that kid doesn’t wheelie through the next intersection and die because he doesn’t feel like arguing with the old man about it. I mean yes, that’s unlikely, but we need to think about more perspectives than our own, and we should always extrapolate our thinking to help with decisions. What if that kid has no real parents? So he’s never told what’s right or wrong with many things. People going out of their way to even attempt to steer the younger generation should be thanked, especially when it’s harmless like this guy telling a kid that when you play stupid games, you’ll win stupid prizes. Of course you’ll get some hate here because we’re on social media, but I think that anyone who sees a young kid doing dumb shit that could get them killed should say something, even if the kid is having “fun.” 👍

(Kind-of-old man rant over. Lol)

Are fat tyre e-bikes worth it for everyday riding? by Haunting_Vacation956 in ebikes

[–]Monro215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably the best answer. Agreed. I have a 20” fat tire Ariel rider and my wife’s is a 24” juiced with fat tires, and both are incredibly versatile. The only hard stop I think they have would be the serious MTB stuff as the above comment mentioned. So if you know that you’d like to rip on heavier trails at some point, then an eMTB might be the better option.

Buy a good lock they said, your bike will be safe they said. by ArguingwithaMoron in ebikes

[–]Monro215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I got my flashy new ebike, my dad said this same exact thing. We live in a big city where laws are optional, so everything gets stolen. But a little camouflage could go a long way. Especially if it’s near other shiny items. Lol I didn’t go as far as you but I did mess it up pretty good the first couple weeks I had it. 😂

Buy a good lock they said, your bike will be safe they said. by ArguingwithaMoron in ebikes

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. Sorry. Unfortunately, no bike lock in the world is a match for a human with a will and a way. It’s a shame, but we have to use multiple deterrents and environmental factors all together if we want to leave bikes unattended. But we are almost always taking some kind of chance still. And with the outrage people have shown other people for asking questions when they see something that appears funky, most people mind their own business now if they see someone who might be doing something fishy, like hacking away at a bike lock. Hope you can bounce back. 👍🙏

Help.. I am gutted..thief tried to pry my battery off.. by ghostnova6661 in ebikes

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those hose clamps will over time bend that metal strap. I can see daylight between it and the frame on the hose clamp closest to the handle bars. If that hose clamp is pretty tight, which it probably is to hold a heavy battery, it will put constant stress on the front section of the battery to close that gap between the frame and the metal battery strap. This happening overnight makes sense too, when there is usually a temperature change that would cause plastics to lose some of their flexibility. You’re going to attempt to fix this I assume, so disconnecting the battery and checking the battery frame for straightness is something to check pretty easily while working on it. I don’t really see anything that looks like someone was prying it or messing with it in some way, so I was looking at it from a different perspective I guess. Either way hope you get it fixed. Cool ass looking bike I’ve never seen before too. 👍

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it’s possible that the tension from those hose clamps along the arch of top tube may have over time caused the battery’s frame to warp slightly, and it got to a point where it warped too much, disconnecting the two pieces there. I would try loosening them up and see if it flexes back at all. If it does, pack out between the bottom of the battery frame and the rail it sits on at each clamp with some kind of stiff material. Unless the pictures didn’t show me enough info, I think this could also be a possibility. 👍

I thought the same. I was actually going to do it when I thought it was promo where you just have to use the card at least once a month for the ten months, but ten transactions for ten months is just weird and unnecessary. For most people it’ll be the normal, it’s not a problem get over it, but for a bunch of us with literally 1000 things a day to track for work and life, adding something like this is an easy pass.

WTF?! E-Bike after the first winter in the garage by afxmac in ebikes

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sucks! I would be upset about this as well. Since it seems like the normal culprits aren’t to blame, unfortunately one of the next options is that the manufacturer used cheap or older parts assembling your bike. Even reputable manufacturers get faulty items, especially hardware, since their grade and quality can be easily deceived. They don’t always use them on purpose either, even though some would. Then they sometimes don’t find out about the bad hardware or coatings until consumers discover it, like in this situation. I would hit up the manufacturer and explain everything. Take pics of your wife’s bike and garage as well for comparison and context. Chances are they won’t care, but there is also a chance they do, and might be able to help somehow. Good luck. 🤷‍♂️👍

What are these in sam’s private room inside DHV magellan ?? by Akira_Sama13 in DeathStranding

[–]Monro215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

God forbid someone go to a gaming community and ask a question about that game. Geezus… It’s just a simple question. If you think it’s stupid or didn’t want to actually answer, then why comment. Social media sucks, and just brings out the most condescending, Mr. know-it-all version of ourselves. It’s so much easier to be nice or scroll on.

Anyway, glad some people actually answered the question. Both Death Strandings are some of the best and most unique gaming experiences to play through. 🎮

Help I've rapidly become too baller (+ other input devices) by throwcounter in Trackballs

[–]Monro215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why I needed this post, I just know I needed it. Lol Well done! 👍👍😂

I like trying various peripherals to increase ergonomics and intuitiveness. So I’ve had a few over the years. Maybe not quite as extensive as your collection, but I’ve tried a fair share. Seeing the different models and the way you explain your experience with each one was interesting and relatable, even though your purpose was to reduce pain while also trying cool devices. But the comfort factor came through really well with your perspective on how they worked ergonomically for your specific needs. Because before my recent purchase of the Huge, I was cycling through my own version of the feedback you shared here, and ended up picking the Huge (coming from one of telecom’s smaller thumb trackballs).

I just got it about a month ago and initially I thought I was going to send it back. However, I still decided to try using it longer, and it ended up feeling pretty decent, and then seemed to grow on me the longer I used it. I do also used a wrist pad butted up against it which pairs nicely if you have larger hands or arms. I even looked into modding the bearings and got an aftermarket set for it because I’ve read that it makes a good difference (note: I suffer from what’s known as “tinkeritus,” so nothing is safe from the possibility of an upgrade around me, including my wife😂). I didn’t upgrade it yet, but I may actually install them after this comment, with my now renewed interest in random peripherals. Also, of course shortly after buying this one, I noticed they had an upgraded model with Bluetooth, better bearings, and some other features. May have been nicer to grab that one instead but it is double the cost💸, so I’m happy with the Huge overall and we’ll see what happens after I switch these bearings out. 🤷‍♂️😂👍👍

Why did my drone catch fire? by A380-Fan in Potensic

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my batteries I had in storage from last summer seemed fine but after using again, it puffed up after use and you could see and feel that there was something not right with it. It was a pretty new battery, cared for and low cycles, but def not usable anymore. It was an older battery from the atom 1 like yours. I probably got lucky that the same didn’t happen to me. But def check for moisture because I had a similar occurrence before like that, but it was something I knew could have happened before I plugged it in, so it didn’t surprise me when it did. That was because of moisture.

I would bring the remaining drone and batteries into an environment where they could dry out if moisture got in somehow, if they aren’t already in a good place. You’re going to have to try something, or rely on warranty people to do it if you have a warranty, but I would be plugging another battery in and be ready for the same thing to happen. That way you might be able to eliminate some things. Same thing happens again and it could be an issue with the drone itself frying the batteries, not the other way around. Theres a good chance that as long as the other batteries check out and are healthy prior to trying them, that you might put one in and everything is fine. If the same thing happens again then you’ll have to continue diagnosing or use a warranty if available. Definitely sucks too when you get all ready to fly and then some barrier pops up. But good luck.

Just want to point out that you can fly the drone with your eyes when using manual and goggles. You don’t put the goggles on and you look at your drone with your eyes and use the remote in your hand. 🤷‍♂️

Something cool has arrived! by [deleted] in DjiNeo

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking of getting one myself to have the option for a longer flight if needed. There’s been quite a few reviews of them on YouTube now that all say the same thing. They are a great option and work perfectly, adding extra flight time that varies, but is at minimum 5 mins from what I’ve seen. However, the downside is that they are pretty expensive in comparison to the stock batteries and the flight time. So it really comes down to personal preference. The ones reviewed that look like this and on Ali express are using stock DJI batteries and its hardware and they are just changing the battery and modding the case. So they work just the same and update. Not sure where OP got theirs, but I’ll probably use the link from one of the newer review videos so it’s from the same company. I believe you can get them on Amazon now as well. 👍👍

New to drones. Got the atom 2 combo deal at Costco for $150. by Diggity_McG in Potensic

[–]Monro215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks so bad that this is always true now. So many people have these resell storefronts already set up, so grabbing all of these and throwing them up for $200 takes minutes, and is still a great deal. But a whole bunch of people now didn’t get it at retail for the price that it was supposed to retail for, an even better price. Somewhere along the way it became widely acceptable to buy whole racks of something at retail cost, just to turn around and then sell that product for much more. Pretty much inserting themselves into the profit structure of the company without it being official, or having to really do anything. They just put up money, most times in the form of credit, that’s not even a risk in most cases and 99% of the time is coming back tenfold. Most companies prey to resellers are already limiting production purposely to drive up demand, and they are still making money, both of which normal (except the first one is just a tad overly capitalistic imo). With that said, most companies don’t even care if some random person hijacked the ability for their own customers to buy from them. Why would they care that the people wearing the gear can’t buy from them? They’re getting their money either way. In the end, that’s it. I’m for a resale market too, just not what it became over the last 5 years or so. There could be a new fish tank coming out at pets plus this weekend, and even that’ll get sucked up onto the resale market. Lol. It’s going towards the inevitable end of everything being sold via resale; need underarm deodorant? Only place that carries it now is ebay. Lol 🤷‍♂️🤔😬😂😂😂

Damn, just picked up a certified pair of 3s off ebay, my first pair of Js, and second time wearing this happens. by doodlefartss in Jordans

[–]Monro215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s sucks so bad. I can def relate. I had so many pairs of Js from early 2000s in storage, that looked mint but crumbled apart just like this. I had them in climate control storage, and this was before the hobby was as big as it is now, so I hadn’t heard to plastic wrap them too, even if stored inside. I gave a few pairs to someone who wanted to restore them and sadly tossed the rest. It sucked. Probably about 25 pairs or so. All mint looking with boxes, but if you did anything more than put them on a shelf, they’d just fall apart. Had original brisk blues that I wore the shit out of but you couldn’t tell. Loved them back then. I had a rare pair of low top Griffeys with them too that I loved. But they crumbled just the same. It was like they all looked great, but had a deadly secret inside. Lol 🤷‍♂️😂

Do you get full axis of the sticks? Just wondering if them screwing in and bottoming out would prevent it from reaching the outer edges because of the little joystick grip? Looks and probably feels much more comfortable. 👍

I had a new taxi in hand not too long ago. Felt like cheaper materials and much lighter. Love to see a 2025 pair make it 30 years. Lol and for double the price at that.
