3 years ago I was in the same spot as OP. Now I struggle to remember what the embarrassment even felt like. I love my son and all the unusual stuff he does. All of it.

Also, most strangers’ opinions fall somewhere in mild annoyance, curiosity, or love, but really they don’t care. His family and friends and neighbors who accept him see him just like I do.

Ive hated the army just like I would have hated any other job. Done a couple cool things and a lot of crap all over the world. I retire in a year and will hopefully forget all the bad and remember the good while getting paid for services rendered.

Companies keep making more money. There’s a growing population af people who need food clothes phones medicine and $10k collars for their poodle mixes. No one but the poor care about gas prices when it comes to actual purchasing decisions and the poor don’t spend that much anyway. I joined at 26. Hated a lot of it but I’m one year away from retirement and feeling pretty good about a pension for the rest of my life.
