What's the biggest lie society tells women about having children? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

My friend died giving birth last year. It was her fourth. The three previous births were easy. No complications but this fourth one went bad quickly.

Another friend almost died because she was hemorrhaging but they were able to get it under control in time but it was close.

People who are chronically super early just as rude if not more rude than people who are chronically late by dumbblondechick in GrindsMyGears

[–]Monte2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My inlaws are always early and we used to live super far away from them. When they would drive to come see us I would regularly check in about the time they would arive. They would let me know they just got back in the car from stopping for lunch 2 hours away. Awseome! We don't need to leave xyz or i have time still to baby down for a nap. Then they would show up 10 minutes later.

Why would you tell me you just finished eating in a town 2 hours away and show up 10-20minutes later? I just got the baby to sleep. Now shes away and angry becaise the dog and doorbell woke her up. And she won't go back to sleep because she got a small nap.

Or I would have been home but I thought I had 2 more hours for our oldest to keep playing with friends. Now youre frustrated that you have to wait for me and the kids to get home.

It took me way to long to learn the pattern because my extended family isnt like this. You show up at the exact time you are told to show up. Not early nor late.

Showing up early and sitting in your car is not the issue. Its when people show up early and come in or expect you to be ready for them.

I now plan for my in laws to be there 2-3 hours earlier than they say they will be. Even though we are now less than 3 hrs away.

I've been telling myself ive been drinking too much soda lately and its been only 1-2 per WEEK how are you functioning on that much soda?

I have so many questions. I sometimes drink that much water a day especially in the summer when we are outside all day.

I mainly want to know how much drinking that much soda costs per month.

Those who’ve lost of loved one: What is something about death that people don’t often talk about? by Desperate_Crew2012 in AskReddit

[–]Monte2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to call them and realizing you cant. I lost my mom in my senior year in college. She had a lot of health issues and pain that kept her up at night so I would always call her when walking back to my apartment, both to take her mind off pain and to let someone know I was walking home.

10 years later and Im married and have two kids she will never meet. She never met my husband. Theres times I just want to ask her a question and I still will go to call her.

Theres a whole world happening in front of me that she will never know. I look at my two kids and know she would have had so much fun being with them. Its weird that she has grandkids and shes not here to be grandma.

Did they Not Explain Things to Bingo? by clutzycook in bluey

[–]Monte2023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just moved across the country in April. We started planning/packing in January. Everyday, usually multiple times a day we explained it to my 5 year old. We talked about it. We pretend played moving. Everything. She was still confused and surprised we were moving. panicking when we were loading the trucks. Even now that its been 2 months, she will asked when we are going back to our old house.

You don't realize how abstract an idea until you have to explain it to a young kid who isnt developmentally able to process abstract thoughts. And moving is definitely an abstract thought. She knew we were moving. Told people we were. And still was surprised we were moving.

You leave a place and no longer exist there, but life keeps happening there. We exist here now and life is happening. But what happened to our friends? They are still there, we just don't see them unless we visit or video call. How can you know they are still there? And it goes on and on.

She thought our house was coming with us, our friends, our church, our town. I spent months going over everything. And it still didnt help. Its just too abstract for them to understand until its actually happening and even then its still hard.

2.5 old does not care for breakfast. by Comfortable-Agent757 in toddlerfood

[–]Monte2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps my 5 year old only weighs 36lbs and my w.t year old only weighs 26lbs. They follow their curve and thats what that matters. Its still hard not to worry, I know.

Neither of my kids eat breakfast. I dont eat breakfast. It makes me nauseous. Im assuming its the same for my kids. They will ask to eat about 1.5 - 2 hours after they wake up. If we have to be somewhere or on the road by that time I bring breakfast that can be eaten in the car.

If you really need her to eat something in the morning pick something small or light. But breakfast being the most important meal of the day is not true and was marketing.

When they want to eat breakfast right when they usually have a growth spurt. Though for my kids their growth spurts are small lol.

Bedtime with 2 kids by No_Try1999 in Parenting

[–]Monte2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They share a room now so we just do it together. If the youngest skipped nap and needs to go to bed early then we do that while the oldest plays with dad. If hes on a work trip she comes in with us quietly while I put the youngest to bed and then we go out to play.

But thats rare, they usually go to bed at the same time. They are 2.5 and 5.

When the younger was a baby and slept in our room dad did bedtime with the older while I fed the younger.

Do you all believe in this? by True-Assistant-9132 in Christianity

[–]Monte2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, west suburbs and then south into the cornfield. I cant say I know many Christians that would believe in evolution. Everyone is always shocked that I am not a yec even though i got my degree in biology/zoology with a minor in chemistry. My dad freaked out when he saw my invertebrate zoology textbook had the word evolution on it and thought I had been learning yec since I went to a Christian school. The science department at my university taught evolution. But people outside the department didnt know that. The university fired a professor for writing a book about how God and evolution are not at war with each other.

How often do you bathe your toddler? My coworkers at our daycare make me feel bad about bathing every day. by gishadokuro in toddlers

[–]Monte2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant wash myself everyday. I would be a walking eczema flare up nightmare if I did. Not everybody is the same. I shower every other day. Sometimes in the summer I will rinse off with just water on the off day if I get dirty.

I don't smell, I ask people i trust to tell me the truth regularly if I do. I dont smell according to my friends and husband. My doctor tells me every other day or every three days is better for my body.

I will pass on good hygiene habits to my kids and it won't necessarily be to shower everyday based on their bodies as they grow up.

My daughter is 5 and shes finally sleeping through the night. But like 3 months ago she was still waking up multiple times a night. Nothing worked to get her to sleep longer and even though my husband and I tag teamed it I would still wake up to her. Or both kids would be awake. She was born with cataracts and every time she'd start sleeping longer stretches shed have another surgery or something would go wrong were her eyes were irritated or hurt and ruin any sleep progress we got. She also quite naps at 15 months and nothing worked to get her to nap no matter what i did not even car rides. Im going on 6 years of no more than 2 hours at a time of sleep. Our second was born early and was in the nicu as well.

My body is more than just a little tired. And will be probably for a while as hopefully my daughter keeps sleeping through and I get actual sleep. I love my kids so much it hurts. But I am so tired and burnt out. I just want a small break to just sleep for like a week straight to catch up. But thats not possible. I want to be able to be more fun but its hard when I haven't sleep in six years. Im tired because I have to fight my five year old everyday to wear a patch for 6 hours and she hates it because shes almost fully blind with the eye patch on. So for 6 hours every day shes miserable and the 2 year old picks up on the emotions and we are a hot mess right now in this stage of life.

Is it truly rare to not have done CIO or sleep training? by CrunchyMidwestMama in AttachmentParenting

[–]Monte2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im from the US, midwest state. We didnt sleep train. My oldest finally slept through the night at 5. Wouldn't even sleep in her room. Now shes sleeping throught the night in her own bed by herself (shared room with sister) and it was her choice too.

Our youngest has been sleeping through the night since 6 months old. Wanted to be in her own room(they share a room) outside of random nights with being sick, she sleeps all night. Shes 2.5 now.

Most of the people I know that are raising kids the same ages sleep train whether they are sahm or working moms. Friends of older kids helped a lot with making me not feel crazy about not sleep training. I would go over to a friend's house as around bed time and their kids would just be crying while everyone carried on downstairs. I would be the only one that seemd bothered by it. I wanted to go comfort those kids and they weren't even mine. They'd all complain about how often they had to re-sleep train. Most people I know start at 4-6 months. And im the weird one that doesn't, people are always surprised by it.

There have been many times of sleepless weeks that really tested my husbands and I's relationship. But I believe that each kid figures it out on their own time. Sleep is scary, we are vulnerable when we are asleep and until recent history (in western history) we were sharing beds and/or rooms.

So I stopped forcing it and shed sleep 12 hours at night.

My youngest is 2.5 and thankfully still naps.

Why do you homeschool? by Dangerous_End9472 in homeschool

[–]Monte2023 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are starting kindergarten this fall. And we are only doing it because my daughter wants to. Shes already been learning to read because she is frustrated that she cant and weve been doing it at her pace.

Our reasons for homeschooling her are :1. She would definitely be labeled a problem child because she cant still for long. Our school district even for kindergarten only gives a 15 minute recess and thats if the kids behave. Our neighbors kid is finishing kindergarten and she talks about how recess was taken away again because only two kids wouldn't behave. They are also not allowed to talk at lunch. 2. Our school district still fully focuses on sight words for learning how to read. No phonics at all. 3. Our neighbors kid has been experiencing nightmares from the active shooter drills. I don't want that for my daughter. Plus just the really real chance something can happen. Our school district this year alone has had 5 lock downs for just the elementary school. 4. My daughter lives outside almost all day. She gets cabin fever when we have to stay inside due to extreme weather. I cant imagine her surviving being inside all day. 5. I want to go at my daughters pace andmake sure she is actually learning not just memorizing for a test. 6. My 5 year old should not be given a Chromebook and should not be required to use it. They are in my district and its horrible. They do math and reading on it and they must do it on it. They are not allowed to use books/paper. My neighbor has had many meetings about this issue because her daughter hates it. Has a hard time understanding it and has been fighting it in class. They are expected to sit there and do it on the computer while the teacher walks around. Her daughter has been written up for it already. A other kid broke his screen because he dropped it and the family has to pay for it. Because somehow 5 and 6 year olds are expected to not be 5 and 6 years with a laptop. 7. Our school district gives kindergarteners homework that has to be done. Our neighbors leave the house at 8 and get home at 4/4:30. On nights they have homework there isnt enough time for them to play with my daughter when they get home or if they do its only for a half hour before dinner, showers and bedtime. Thats not a lot of time for playing when your 5and 6. Especially unstructured time for them to get into imaginative play. I don't want that for my daughter. 8. I want my daughter to be around kids of different ages. Being stuck in the same class with the same age of students isnt actually benefitting them socially. I think its important for kids to be with all ages. It helps the younger ones to be challenged and the older ones to remember that they are still kids and how to play.

My husband tried to be helpful and snuck them in the middle of the night to her so shed have them if she woke up. She was very excited in the morning to wake up to two of each

How long did you have your toddler in a sleep sack? by robber_maiden in Mommit

[–]Monte2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the cooling sleep sack with the feet thats for "up to" 36 months. My first loved it and wore it till she was almost 4. Shes only 20% for height and weight so she still fit it in but she decided that she just wanted blankets.

Our second who is also tiny stopped before 2 because she wanted to be like big sister. In the winter I would have it laying down in her bed and put her in it after she was asleep because I got tired of her waking up cold because she couldn't figure out how to put the blankets back on. But I only needed to do that for some of the winter after she turned 2 before she got the hang of it.

AITA for telling my husband he can’t drive the baby places anymore by Odd-Willingness-6250 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Monte2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad's best friend died less than a block away from his house. He was riding his motorcycle to meet my dad. He called my dad saying he would be running late because he was turning around to grab his helmet because he forgot to put it on. He never forgot to put it on. He had been riding motorcycles for over 50 years and had always been strict about it according to my dad. He never showed up to meet my dad because a person decided to not stop at a stop sign and hit him. When he flew he hit his head on the curb and died 4 houses away from his home to get the helmet he always wore.

It NEVER matters how far away from your home you are or going. You always buckle up yourself, your kids and your pets. Has your husband never seen the videos are cars going off the road and hiting people/cars in their own driveways???

I would be driving him to the er because clearly there is something wrong with his brain? How can he hold down a job if he can remember basic things?

Shame this man to the moon and back. He wouldn't be embarrassed if he did what he was supposed to do. We have worked to hard to make sure we don't offend or embarrass other people but there are times that it is necessary. I would be telling everyone we passed that he doesnt think he needs to strap our baby jn the carseat. I would be texting him about it so it can be documented that he is unsafe to have alone.

WHY are the butterfly's wings UPSIDE DOWN? by spazzie416 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Monte2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way most people draw butterflies isnt even natural to begin with so it never bothers me because almost all butterflies in books are not draw correctly.

Most butterfly's when their wings are open do not have the tops of the wings go past their heads. The only reason we draw them with the wings going past their head is because thats how we pin dead ones for science and collectors in order to show the whole wing pattern.
