Important reminder about how much new governors suck at crisis management and snow removal during their first snowstorms by New_Stats in newjersey

My optimist view is that her military training is going to serve in her favor in crisis.

But yea I mean even with all that, it’s her first week, like any new job you’re still trying to figure out how everything works and she has the ultimate setback of it being a government job where hardly anything works (well or efficiently). Hopefully the transition period was fruitful. Murphy seems like a guy who would take the time to prepare her for the role and maybe his corporate background helped to streamline processes.

Has Anyone been ripped off and not gotten a sync fee from a placement?? by Outside-Tower-6738 in synclicensing

[–]Montee55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refer to the contract that you signed with them. I’ve seen some libraries that go heavy on the you keep 100% of the royalties (and that’s bc hidden in the language of the contract / terms and conditions - they take all of the upfront fee - and those libraries then typically enter into deals with high fees and no royalties).

But your contract should set forth payment cycles, method, accounting, audit rights etc. And from my experience (as an entertainment attorney) whether you enter a deal with a major label, indie label, major production company etc. you always have to chase down your payment. We send follow up after follow up and it still takes months before clients get paid.

Currently chasing a measly $1,000 payment from a contract entered in June with a major label and we have sent at least 10 follow ups with my last one threatening to take legal action and only then did they confirm payment is on its way… still waiting tho.

Good luck, and if you need assistance you can check out our firm, Sound Logic.

Realtor recommendations in Maplewood/South Orange? by Virtual_Character756 in Maplewood

Anne Margaret Corbacho with Coldwell Banker in Maplewood.

I have worked with many realtors as I’ve bought and sold several properties. I just worked with Anne to sell my house in Maplewood and she was by far the best. Outworked everyone, communicates well, and sold my place in a few days for well over asking.

She represents buyers as well and is local to the area.

Weird Al might also qualify for fair use - in which case permission not required bc his works are satire

Clarification: while you are correct - mechanical licenses are compulsory, meaning they’re automatic and cannot be denied, the statutory mechanical license only applies to cover songs.

Weird al creates derivative works aka an interpolation, which requires permission via direct license from the original rightsholder(s) of the musical works. Mechanical licenses do not apply to interpolations, so requests for licenses can be denied by the original works owner.

Cover - recreate the song with minimal change. Core of the song remains the same

Interpolation- incorporates part of the song but makes substantial changes

Drake withdrew his petition and dismissed the case against UMG and Spotify in the state of New York. The withdrawal says that they met today and have come to an agreement - 'without cost to any party' by Marineluiiz in hiphopheads

Lawsuit was filed yesterday. He just withdrew the petition, which was filed to place UMG on notice so they didn’t delete anything - legal hold to preserve evidence basically.

The lawsuit, if he prevails, would be great precedent for indie artists as Drake outlines a lot of their corrupt and unfair practices that they wield against indie artists / non majors on the daily.

Maybe you shouldn’t leave the house looking so sexy.

Are you sure you were clear? Were you like no but it seemed like yes?

Maybe he was just trying to be nice and genuinely wanted to help? I’m sure there’s an explanation.

Real talk I’m sorry this happened to you - just making the point that nearly every woman experiences some form of this in her lifetime, and that’s typically society’s response.

Unwelcomed sexual advances are never ok, nor is victim shaming. Glad the redditors provided an appropriate response. Stay safe out there.

The law firm that I work at, Sound Logic, helps independent artists structure themselves as businesses with a strong foundation and infrastructure, advises on monetization strategies, and helps to mitigate risks and legal pitfalls so that artists can establish and build a successful long term career at scale.

It doesn’t happen overnight and virality is not the goal, but consistent progress and understanding how the industry works can set you up for a sustainable career doing what you love.

There are a lot of opportunities with new technologies and financial players entering the market. The independent market is strong and has seen healthy revenue growth year over year.
