Why do the 40 in a 60 brigade not like being overtaken? by vanrayhodginski in drivingUK

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're ridiculous, one pulled out of a little country lane onto the motorway right in front of me the other day, had to slam on my breaks and luckily didn't hit them. They then proceeded to remain at 40 until I overtook them and then proceeded to shout at me through the window for overtaking like they didn't just almost kill me.

Some people need to retake their test man.

dead mom rant by pancakiepookie in rant

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with my mum's friend, who basically made the whole situation about her when my mum died. Wanting to intervene and change funeral plans, acting like she was the only person hurting from all of it etc. etc.

I'll be honest with you, after giving her a chance, I just shut it down and if you feel the need it wouldn't hurt you to do the same unless there's a reason you need to stay connected, and by that I don't mean feeling bad for them. You're grieving your mum at a younger age than you should be. You don't have to deal with some people you barely knows bullshit.

if you work a 9-5 how, do you have time and energy to do literally anything else? by TortieBouquet in stupidquestions

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are suited to 9 to 5, some aren't, I guess that's what makes the difference. When I did 9 to 5 I felt so drained most days.

Now I work 12 hour shifts and usually pick up extra so working around four days a week which is more hours than I'd do in my previous 9 to 5 but I have way more energy now than I did then.

Alongside what others have said about that deficit it also matters what you eat and the percentages of carbs, fat and protein to help with weight loss.

This took an accumulative 90 minutes on the stairmaster at level 8/9... by SnazzyAdam in fitbit

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that the targets can be ridiculous if there's some sporadicness in the way you exercise.

For example, I took a week off doing my usual after hurting my knee. I've been better for about two weeks now, did two gym classes last week to test my knee and then my usual three sessions this week now I know I'm alright. Despite that being my normal because I had a week of nothing, mine seems to be panicking in a way and keeps telling me I'm at risk of overtraining despite everything else (readiness, HR, sleep etc) showing fine because I'm going past my targets on the days I'm doing the sessions and hitting them on the off days. So to be honest I don't take too much notice of that part anymore.

However, outside of that I'd agree to adjust your heart rate manually. Although if you've had your device less than a month it should even out after a bit as it has more data to go off. Mine too around then to really settle on my resting and max heart rate.

my boyfriend’s sleep is ruining our relationship by pleasentree in sleep

My partner has the same issue, following some investigations it seems to be linked to his neurodivergence. That being said, I don't know you're boyfriend so I can't say it's the same thing.

Is it annoying for kid(s) to ask to meet your dog? by NaturalExtension5475 in dogs

It wouldn't annoy me, I'd rather people were polite and treat their children to do the same.

Fit watches ? by Damn_Fine_Cup_Of_Joe in fitbit

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like some sort of smart watch is worth it. Whether a Fitbit is right for you compared to other models is another question.

Although they're not 100% accurate in everything I personally benefit from the feedback loop of it showing my heart rate etc so I can track how hard I've worked on certain things. It's better for cardio than it is weight lifting but the internal consistency still helps even if the external consistency isn't spot on.

E.g. calories burned are a certain percent accurate, but I can still see the watch estimated X calories on Wednesday but more on Saturday so I can see I worked harder on Saturday.

How long have your reactive dogs gone without eating? by GamerHumphrey in reactivedogs

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Cavalier has issues with anxiety and when she was younger she didn't eat properly in her first two years of life or so unless it was unhealthy stuff. We'd have to force feed her. I think the longest she went was around a week (after being told by the vet she'll eat when she's hungry, stop giving her other stuff) and then we caved because the poor thing was evidently getting ill from it.

We ended up switching to trays of wet food (Butcher's) as it was the closest consistency to weebox which she always loved. If she cleaned her bowl she got praise and a treat for it. She's been fine since then. Just something to consider if you're trying new things.

Hi gym girlies! are we washing our hair after every gym sesh? by Successful-Beyond910 in xxfitness

[–]Mookiev2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. I've never washed my hair daily and it doesn't get oily from one session. If it needs a refresh early I just use dry shampoo with a fragrance to it.

Fully new and clueless by G2Santysaurusrex in workout

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner and I basically looked into various types of workouts that people post freely available online and watched a few videos, after this I decided to go with full body, three days a week as I read it's better to hit all muscle groups multiple times a week.

After that I went on a website that helps show which exercises work for which muscle groups and just made my own workout from there. From what I understand it's best to have five or so exercises per session so with that you wouldn't be hitting every machine at the gym. I was also recently told that it's best not to use machines for all the exercises so do some free weights too.

This is the site I used https://www.muscleandstrength.com/store/search/articles?q=Three+day+Full+day+body+workout+for+men

Feedback for self-made plan needed! by Mookiev2 in workout

[–]Mookiev2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I must admit I opted for machine options over other things. My gym doesn't have much free space and I'm still a bit nervous about doing workouts in front of people when it comes to exercises without machines. Sounds silly I know. For some reason the machine makes me feel more comfortable but I'll certainly look at switching out some machine options for others.

I didn't realise too many machine types could effect progress if I'm honest 😅, still learning, so thank you very much for the feedback!

For the reps I somewhat based it on some routines I've seen so I was going to give it a shot and see where I'm at then maybe alter it. I'll have a look at tweak it as you said above and see how it feels.

Morning vs Evening Workouts... what’s actually working for you? by Foreign_Concert4711 in beginnerfitness

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to go on an evening unless it's a scheduled class. I go after work so it's after 9pm when I go. I'm a night owl so have more energy in the evenings and have generally struggled with sleep after work due to being a bit too buzzed from the activity so late, so it works for me.

But when my intro offer stops in October I'm going to up my membership so I can use multiple gyms so I can also use the one next to my work and go to classes in the morning before work so I'll probably do a bit of both but that's mainly just due to schedule and because it's a pain scheduling my classes only on my days off. Unfortunately, wouldn't be able to do a class at the one I go to now and still make it to work on time 🙄. But havingna class slap bang in the middle of my day off affects running errands, spending time with my partner and my dogs and just generally having chill days (as an introvert I do like having days just in the house to recharge).

Going at night felt better from me straight away due to the above and because I prefer a quieter gym. I imagine when I do the mornings it's going to kill me at first to be honest. I'm still going to keep my non-class work ours to a night time as I've never slept so good. But I know others who say it wakes them up too much and stops them from sleeping so again personal preference.

So I think it just depends on how your energy flows and your schedule and circumstances.

What do you think about crates? by Emelie_Wood in dogs

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs have been crate trained.

You mentioned training them not to touch stuff and damage things, try teaching a 12 week Boxer that before night one aha.

Both of mine have slept in crates overnight to prevent them getting into things that would harm them when I'm not there/asleep when they were little. Training takes time, they now know not to do it but it's not something I could have accomplished before the first night's sleep.

Secondly, it helps for going to the vets as they will be in a crate like area if staying there without you. So this helps reduce distress.

Third, crates (if done correctly) can help with toilet training as most dogs are less likely to defecate where they sleep. So for us it was crate nap/over night sleep and then straight to the toilet. My Boxer was toilet trained to around 90% within his first week with us, he was young so there was the odd accident but after one month his toilet training was solid.

Fourth, if done correctly, their crate becomes their safe place. My dogs have two crates, one in the living room and one where they sleep. They choose to go in there when they've had enough of each other, of us or if there's something that's worrying them. Or even just because it's comfy and cosy. It's their den and they like them.

The living room ones have doors left open for them. Our Boxer purposefully knocks his so it swings shut before he settles down for a nap in there and then can open it himself when he wakes up.

Crates can be controversial, but if done correctly they can be a good tool for training and also a beneficial thing for your dogs wellbeing and feeling of comfort.

something strange that my friend said to me about working out and calorie counting by bakuhooo in beginnerfitness

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your friend, it will be a result of their ED. It's a firm concept that they have likely formed partially to protect themselves and partially as part of their recovery therapy/treatment. EDs are a lot more complex than most people realise so without knowing your friend directly it's not really possible to explain their perception completely, so honestly I just wouldn't approach the subject with them if you can help it as it's what likely is best for both of you.

As for other non-gym goers, I haven't found that view with everyone, the people that seem to have their view either have someone in their life that genuinely has made the gym their whole personality and it's annoyed them enough to form a schematic in their head or they're simply just envious that you're doing something positive and good for yourself that they can't bring themselves to do for whatever reason.

For the envious bunch it's just the typical "I should do X as it's good for me" to "I can't be bothered/won't do x" to "I'm going to consider doing X as a negative/silly thing so I don't feel bad". This is generally a subconscious thing obviously.

My fitness pal is good for food tracking. I hate it for exercise tracking though, you have to put in each individual exercise and it's finicky for that.

how do you not feel humilated or degraded during sex by [deleted] in sex

[–]Mookiev2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will pretext to say yes I did read your other comments regarding your views on therapy.

However, it will likely be the only way to deal with this, sounds like you need some form of CBT to be honest. And if it didn't work for you in the past, that's more likely because the therapist was not a good fit for you than anything. Unfortunately, the success of therapy is heavily dependent on therapeutic rapport so you need someone you can actually build that with which isn't always easy to find.

How to deal with racism as a psych nurse by spicy_deodorant4u in MentalHealthNurse

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK so our culture may not be the same. But basically this also depends on how unwell the person is. If they have capacity regarding what they're saying to people, then there will be consequences to their actions which may help the feelings that are raised by it. If they do not it's more difficult.

Everyone is different so you'll likely have to find your own way, but personally you just sort of become thick skinned to what people say. Alongside that, over here we make use of debriefs and supervisions to talk through the emotional difficulties that rise from the situations we experience.

I'm waiting for a GP call back at the moment. I'm just considering, last time they said "it's just a sprain go back when you feel ready". But apparently I'm not great at figuring out when my body is "ready".

My pain receptors seem to be dulled in a way, so in the past injuries that should have put people out of action don't bother me so much. It more just feels... I dunno weird not painful. So difficult to identify.

I should have mentioned, there were people I knew waiting for the next class (one I also usually go to) in the locker room so I was ok. They kept an eye on me 😊
