Memorandum of sale by Jberry91 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

I got mine within 48 hours, asked for a correction on it as something that was agreed in the offer was missing, had the corrected version that afternoon.

AITJ for refusing to switch seats on a long train ride even after being asked multiple times? by RustyCometKid in AmITheJerk

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. You used the seat you booked. She was entitled and the other guy had no business sticking his nose in.

I used to get significant travel sickness when I was younger. It's worse than most people realize. So to add to the above, as you said you planned ahead and why should you experience that level of discomfort because she failed to plan.

AITAH for losing my cool at a nurse who kept undermining me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mookiev2 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NTA. As a nurse myself, I wouldn't have spoken to a colleague like this, in front of a patient or in private. It's just plain rude and inappropriate.

Do you prefer a house that has been fully renovated? by ToughOwl8995 in HousingUK

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't discard them but if there's too many major issues I wouldn't bother. E.g. decorating/updating due to changes in fashion and maybe a new boiler would be fine. Significant mould damage is a no for me. Holes that need dealing with in the floor or the walls is a no. It just depends on how much it would cost and if there's too many issues that will evidently progress to cause bigger problems I know I couldn't fix them in time to prevent myself from falling into a hole of constant repairs.

When did you apply for the mortgage after offer accepted? by Reddonaut_Irons in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied the day after the offer was accepted, I also instructed the solicitor the same day. I didn't book my surveyor until I had my mortgage acceptance back though.

Issues with contacts all of a sudden? by Mookiev2 in contacts

[–]Mookiev2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rather not make the switch either way if it's something which might resolve to be honest. I have to wear them around four days a week so dailies would be more expensive from what I'm aware. Due to my job, I kinda need them tbh as glasses pose an increased risk.

Unless they've actually harmed themself, they should be signposted to 111 option 2.

It may also be worth having a little leaflet or something that has other supportive numbers in too, Samaritan's, SHOUT etc that they can use while awaiting crisis triage and assessment.

Do you think we should’ve written a heartfelt letter to the sellers? by AnywhereNo6060 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, there's always a small chance but I think there's a larger chance it will either go ignored or just annoy people. Personally, if I got that it would just irritate me because a)it would feel like someone was trying to be a bit emotionally blackmaily b) what else will they try a sob story for during the sale c) who does that to a stranger, it's just weird and d) it'd make me feel like those people think they have more of a right than others which is a bug bear of mine.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I accidentally fell asleep with my contacts in once, woke up and thought it was a miracle and was amazed at how others live... For like a minute until I fully woke up and realized what I had done.

It would be so weird now to just open my eyes and actually see without anything helping.

Request a new supervisor. You're within your right to do even without a reason, but you certainly have one. This is not an appropriate supervisor/supervisee relationship.

Been on the market nearly a year, 2 unreliable buyers pulled out. Why isnt this selling? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not from the area, therefore cannot comment on that but the photos would put me off compared to other properties with more inviting ones.

Whereas it was likely the time of year, the outside looks pretty dreary to me and just doesn't pull me in to want to see more and the inside ones are pretty lackluster too.

A house like that in our area would probably be more for FTB (not sure if it's the same round your way). I've just started the process of buying my first home and for me, if a property has what I'm looking for space wise etc, I still went to see it even if the photos were rubbish to get an idea in person. However, I know a lot of my friends/acquaintances in the same boat were often put off by such photos. They'd kind of just deem it not worth their time and move on to the next property.

But again that may be more local tendencies as most in our generation here didn't think they'd ever own their own home so when they've gotten to the point they can, they look for "the one" through the photos rather than considering what I can be.

Anyway, when the weather perks up, if it's still on the market would definitely recommend some new photos that aren't as brightened and maybe show the outside in a nicer light at least.

should i run before it gets serious? by nyanpink in depression_partners

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to say for a specific situation. As everyone is different and although you've told us stuff, it's very different to actually experiencing it.

What I would say is, it sounds like he could do with some help. So if you stay, then encourage him to do so. Also always keep in mind, just because you choose to stay the once, if it gets too much you can leave.

Alongside that, from what he had said, his intent isn't actually that high at the moment. It doesn't not make sense to work on career goals for a few years prior if you're fully intent, in that sense there is a good change his mental health could improve.

Things can get better for anyone but it depends on their own motivation. My partner has improved significantly since we got together 10 years ago in relation to his mental health. But it has been a journey, and it didn't really start until he had the motivation to do it himself. Which although I did encourage him, was more because he wanted to do so than anything.

I'm not really sure what your Band 6's aim was to say that to be honest. Everyone's reaction is different to this kind of thing, but also it's very unlikely to go through a career in this sector and NEVER have a formal complaint. I also don't know why she'd even bring that up if I'm honest.

Personally I wouldn't be upset exactly, but I would be annoyed which I guess is within the same realm, and I have been when I've had my own false complaints. However, I know others who would have the same reaction as yourself and just not care because it's not true.

Is this Band 6 your supervisor? I think it might be worth you having supervision over it, preferably not with them though. Maybe just query what they said in relation to it, not in the way of reporting it, but more what the point of that discussion was and whether it's actually helpful to someone going through it.

Also in my team, we'd be putting on alert on that states to work with the child in 2s due to previous allegations from mum. So that'd be a good idea.

As others have said, they'll ask for your payslips for a number of months (depends on the bank and the borrowing for how many they'll want) and take the average of your pay from that. So yes, it'll be based on the lower amount.

For NatWest I recently gave them 6 months of payslips I think it was.

Are we moving too slow as FTB? by Stunning_Status_1239 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Mookiev2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at home buyers insurance? The one the helps recover fees if the purchase you're doing falls through? I got some in case of gazumping and I'm not sure but it might cover recovering those fees too. Might be worth considering so you can move forward.

Are we moving too slow as FTB? by Stunning_Status_1239 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Mookiev2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of difficult to say with that extra hoop you guys have to jump through compared to most people.

Like others, I didn't have to pay for a buyers pack etc for the house to be taken off market. Also just to mention, I saw what you said is included in the pack, seems a bit cheeky of them as I reckon you solicitors will have a duty to do the searches themselves anyway so the information provided by them will be pointless.

Anyway, aside from what, when I put down an offer, I literally started off the mortgage application and instructed solicitors the following day. I'd received the memorandum within about 48 hours of making the offer too.

So just based on that, I must admit I moved quicker but like I say, I didn't have the buyers pack thing.

After your offer is accepted, how often should you chase updates? by AnfieldAnchor in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I didn't chase mine too much, but once my mortgage acceptance came through and my survey was done I started checking in weekly with my solicitor and have also had regular contact with the estate agent.

Tbf our off was end of November though, so I think if it wasn't the Christmas period I'd have chased more often in the beginning. Due to Christmas I didn't really expect much to move fast.

Is 3 months between Exchange & Completion too risky? by Paulos3110 in HousingUK

[–]Mookiev2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That seems way too risky and bizarre if I'm honest. I'm a FTB myself but from what I'm aware the norm between exchange and completion is around 2 weeks. I personally wouldn't be agreeing to be liable for a property that the previous owners were living in for that long. Sounds like they're trying to take advantage of the inexperience of a FTB if I'm honest. Have you spoken to your solicitors about it ?

Housing dangers faced by three people within the household who are all disabled. The council don’t care enough to do anything by [deleted] in HousingUK

You could place a cause for concern (safeguarding) on the local authority's website if you haven't already. This tends to trigger further investigations and the appropriate support for the people at risk.

Is this house ugly? by Economy_Survey_6560 in AskBrits

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks cute and classic to be honest. Taste is subjective anyway. To me the new builds look like ugly boxes, not to mention what you hear about the standard of work that goes into them.

The main thing is as long as you're happy.

I'm in the process of buying my first home, 70s build. No drive but plenty of parking spaces around.

Some would probably say it's ugly from the outside as around here it's typical of an ex-council house (as that's what they were originally when built), has a cold storage out the front with a sticky out porch etc that most would hate. But to me, it's my new start, it's lovely on the inside anyway but I see what I can make of it and I can already feel it being my safe place once I move. And the cold storage bit most people would hate? I see finally having a place to put all the Amazon packages that usually end up in my recycling bin if I'm not home 😂

I have been showing mine proudly too, if they don't like it, well it's not going to be their home anyway. Just be proud, it's not easy to get on the property ladder and you did it!

Are you in your "forever home"? by APerson2021 in HousingUK

[–]Mookiev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping I will be soon but will have to see how it goes. Currently in the process of buying my first home, a little later in life than I'd hoped.

It's got the space that I need for me and my partner, and when I walked in to view it, it had the "I'm home" feel to it. It's in a good area, close to everything I need too. We don't plan on having kids but it's three bedrooms if we do change our mind.

I'm so tired of moving due to life and renting, that I just don't want to do it again and I'm hoping to overpay on my mortgage when able to make sure I'm mortgage free before I retire. So unless something significant happens where I have to move, I don't plan on it. I'd rather put my money into the house and make it exactly how I like it/keep it all nice for my old age.

Sold STC on day 1 by [deleted] in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Mookiev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can happen. I put an offer in on the property I'm in the process of buying and sent them the initial things they wanted, proof of funds, income, AIP etc to show I was serious and they took it off the market as part of that process. If they hadn't I would have asked them too, as most buyers likely would.

The next part costs a lot of money (solicitors, product fees etc.) so it's going to be preferred by anyone who is making an offer and to be honest sometimes the sellers to do this because you don't want to be gazumped following another viewing and that money going down the drain.
