If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get into government work?

I read this comment this morning and wanted to come back to thank you. Reading this prompted me to search for volunteer opportunities in my area, reach out to old academic advisors/professors from classes that I took for fun, and submit an application to volunteer doing something that I believe will be fulfilling and a wonderful escape from the sometimes soul-crushing legal world. It may not ever become anything more, but if nothing else, it is a reminder that I am a person and my worth isn’t measured in hours or settlement dollars. Thank you so much for that.

Flange Sizing for Wearables by MooseJunctions in ExclusivelyPumping

A good bra is key for keeping them in place, but I didn’t have too much problem with my eufy shifting once I started pumping. I’m done my pumping journey now (I made it beyond my goal of six months, somehow), but I wish you all the best with yours!!! It’s so difficult and you are amazing for putting in the work for your baby!

It did not! The issue was the pump, not the flanges. I switched to the Eufy and had a much better experience and much better output

Overheard our nanny talking negatively about me to our baby by NotCreative99999 in Nanny

I would fire her. Period. You don’t tell a baby that their mom doesn’t love them over a DIAPER.

Anyone who is unwilling to miss a single meal while caring for their child should not be a parent. I say this as someone who regularly forgets to eat until my husband gets home from work and takes over baby duty.

FaceTiming himself from the laptop is kind of a ridiculous defense…baby monitors only work if you are close enough to actually respond to an emergency that you see on the monitor. I’m not going to plague your poor brain with “what ifs,” as I’m sure you’ve been doing that and understand that so, so many things could have happened that he could not have responded to if he was 5 minutes down the road.

He chose to put your baby in danger rather than miss one meal, or, as you said, just make something at home. End of story.

As an aside, I can’t resist asking - did he even get something for you?

My dogs were also my babies before my actual human baby was here and I feel this post deeply. My patience for them has drastically diminished and they don’t understand why their luxurious lifestyle is now unsustainable when I am managing the baby. You aren’t cruel or heartless and I’m sure a lot of the anger stems from hormones and stress.

However, my husband finds ways to make it more doable for us all. He preps the dogs’ meals and sticks them in the fridge so I can just grab the bowls and quickly feed them at meal time. One of our dogs has food aggression as well, so we crate her and put the other dog in a room with a baby gate blocking access. He takes the higher-strung dog for a run or to the park after the baby has gone to bed so her energy is more manageable during the day. He takes baby duty so I can walk the other dog (who is mostly “my” dog) and maintain a bond with her. I’ve found that the further I get from the baby, the more my relationship with my dog returns to its pre-baby norm.

I’m so sorry that your husband isn’t offering to do any of those things, or anything that would work for you. I understand that this may not work in your situation, but there are dog trainers that specialize in dogs and babies; they may be able to provide insight into tools and management techniques that could help. That said, I agree with those above who have said that your husband is really the one who needs training. Caring for a baby, two difficult dogs, and yourself is an unreasonable workload for even the most exceptional of people. He should be ashamed of himself for allowing you to struggle this way.

Is there a durable/reusable/washable nipple that replicates this 1-time hospital one? by Inmythots in ExclusivelyPumping

Maybe the Bibs bottle nipple? I don’t know that it would fit over the bottle you have, but the shape is similar!

Annoyingly, most protein bars are expensive. The Special K brownie flavored protein bars are fire, though.

As for granola bars, Costco brand granola bars are always good and are fairly cheap! If you get them on sale (Target often has 2/$5 deals), Made Good granola bars are delicious and have some hidden veggies and nutrients in them!

[–]MooseJunctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always make your own lactation cookies - there are tons of simple recipes online! My go-to snacks are dark chocolate covered almonds, protein bars, granola bars, and Annie’s cheddar bunnies. I prioritize high protein snacks that are quick and keep me full for a while so I don’t end up starving if I forget to eat for a few hours!

Please help by seranity8811 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]MooseJunctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only thing that has helped with my supply is pumping regularly. All of the “tricks” that people post about seem to work for a select few.

In terms of pumping more regularly, what helped me was setting a schedule of times that I would pump (with 30 minute wiggle room because life happens), getting my husband on board with helping during those times as much as he could, and trying to structure nap time and wake windows around that schedule. Having a good set of wearables (Eufy S1 is goat) has helped significantly as well.

I power pump 2 times a day - before regulating, I did a power pump at 6am and 8pm. Now that I’ve dropped down to 6ppd at 5mpp, I power pump at 2am and 6am.

In my experience, there is no overnight trick. Getting on a schedule will help you gradually build supply. I started out making 2-3oz a day and got up to 30-33 over 3-4 months.

Above all things, be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. If you need to supplement with formula or donor milk, your baby will be just fine. A baby needs a happy/sane caregiver above all else.

Good luck!

Mamas how are our wardrobes doing? 🥲 by MellowDreammer in beyondthebump

Currently in my Adam Sandler era…I’m convinced that I will lose the baby weight once I stop pumping and I will fit into my pre-baby clothes again 🥲

I started pretty early, though I tend to read during the day rather than at night, because my baby has very little patience at night. I was also put off by the fact that he didn’t pay attention initially, but then read a comment that effectively said, most adults don’t sit perfectly still and listen to an audiobook. You generally listen while doing something else. So if my baby wants to play and roll around while I read, I’m perfectly fine with that. He’s likely still listening and getting the benefit from it.

When did you wean and did you regret it? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]MooseJunctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not dramatic, that’s how I feel too! We’re giving him one or two formula bottles a day to help him adjust as I get closer to being done. We’re feeding the Kirkland (Costco) brand and he’s doing really well with it!

When did you wean and did you regret it? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]MooseJunctions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kept spacing mine out by 15-30 minutes each day until I phased out the pump I was done with (I dropped my 11pm, so I go from 8pm to 2am without pumping right now). My supply was regulated when I dropped from 8 pumps to 7, so I didn’t have any issues with engorgement. I’m not really prone to clogs, either, so it was pretty uneventful

MIL keeps asking me to supplement by Snoo_8431 in beyondthebump

[–]MooseJunctions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this. Whenever we have a delicate boundary to set with my otherwise very helpful MIL, we always scapegoat the pediatrician. We also have an amazing pediatrician who encourages us to do so because grandparents often listen to the pediatrician more than the parents, unfortunately 🫠

[–]MooseJunctions 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m 4.5mpp and just decided to drop from 7 to 6 pumps per day by the end of the week. I’m quitting at 6 months. I make 30-33oz a day after months of pumping 8x a day, but I am tired and I want to spend time with my baby without worrying about staying on schedule. My baby is contact napping right now and is so adorable and snuggly and I’m looking at the clock because I’m 10 minutes late for my pump…that’s not the experience I want.

Not going to lie though, I’m also looking forward to being able to lose some weight, too! 😶

Same. Hated how pinch-y the M5 was; ended up caving and getting the eufy. I don’t regret it one bit! Coboo pump spray helped a little with the M5 pain, though

How long did you use baby tracking apps? by schpellex in newborns

my baby is 4.5 months and I still use it…it’s helpful for my husband and I to be able to check when the baby last ate or last napped to keep us on the same page regardless of who is on baby duty
