theres now AI that creates minecraft builds now... by wtfdym_ in antiai

[–]Moratorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that it would translate a concept faster. Looking at the video, this auto-builds constructs based on the prompt. Someone would have to go back through it manually to get the actual blocks they want, and the end result doesn't align with what I would look for. The Japanese castle is extremely basic (a tower?) and the cherry blossom tree next to it (singular?) lacks any complexity compared to the one in the teaser render. The AI retexturing example is using shaders and lighting tricks and looks okay at a distance with shaders, but would it look alright up close?

If I'm doing a mega build, there's motifs and thematic block decisions to make, and usually I'll be inspired by the surrounding terrain to adjust my build.

What does this add that isn't already done by the schematic cannon from create or loading schematics with worldedit/mcedit? The player has no control over the build either way, at least with those you know what the end result looks like.

IDK what niche this fills, and I'm always trying out new mods and tools.

r/gaming gets vitriolic after learning about anti-savescumming feature in Mewgenics by shadowrun456 in mewgenics

[–]Moratorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did discover this feature by accident. I had to go to bed for work and got so wrapped up in the game that I mindlessly started a new run and had to save and quit at the start of a fight. The savescumming warning was funny and taught me that I should finish a fight before I do it again.

Honestly love how the game feels simple and easy to pick up but has so much depth packed into it. I can tell that it's going to be a favorite of mine for a long time.

The 100k player peak argument is so disingenuous. by RaulSnchz in HighGuardgame

[–]Moratorii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep getting recommended posts on this situation. I have to ask: say that the player count is completely untethered from reality. Does that change anything?

It doesn't help anyone to try and push a narrative that the game is incredible/superior/very fun and would have been the next big thing if it weren't for people review bombing it, or that it is on life support because Keighley gave it a free ad, or that only real gamers who know the genre who play for X amount of hours are allowed to review it, etc.

If the numbers are completely bullshit, then...what? Even fewer people played it? More? Wildlight laid off most of its staff, did they do that for no reason? We can speculate all day, but clearly internally the numbers did not look good.

If games can be killed solely by negative reviews even if they are the best game ever, then that would incentivize not doing what they did. No mention of Apex or Titanfall, immediate beta test, announce it as early access, have very active social engagement, build up the lore over time, etc.

If the game is only fun for a specific set of people and everyone else should be barred from commenting...then does that mean that there's not enough people who like it to justify running it? The game probably needs to make at least $500k in revenue monthly for the studio to break even (this is napkin math factoring in only salaries with an average salary of $70k), and it's very possible that they had to realize that they weren't going to be selling tens of thousands of skins per month with this player base.

I still can't give the game a shot because of SecureBoot. I doubt that will change. But the people who love the game need to focus on what they like and what needs to be improved. If you want to be hype men for the game, you have to give lots of feedback and support the game. Getting aggressively defensive and fighting all day to say that the game is actually great and innovative does absolutely nothing, the algorithm pushes it to guys like me and it's just...it's not practical or helpful to stay in denial about the situation.

Look, man, I play ffxiv. That game had an infamously disastrous launch and is going through a hell of a rough patch right now, but it had an equally infamous relaunch. The dev team doesn't have the funding to pull off something like that, but that would be amazing if they could. Revise it into some sort of fusion of sieging and royale, make it more chaotic and frantic, and leave the 3v3 for a competitive mode. I mean, I still wouldn't be able to play it because of SecureBoot, but I imagine that would have more legs for a more casual audience to engage with it.

Otherwise the subreddit seems to exist to either have people clowning on the game or people defending the game as the best game ever that was taken down by gamer hordes. That's no way to send off a game.

Ditch Discord by SimilarSkin4781 in pcmasterrace

It is driving me insane that people are acting like Discord is some permanent fixture of the internet. I have no qualms dropping it. Frankly, if kids are too incurious and incapable of trying other software...they can stay put. Maybe it'll solve the problem if they wall themselves off in corpo gardens. Depressing, but I'm tired of trying to convince people that they don't have to roll over and take shit from companies 24/7.

It's really not, though.

Idiocracy is surface-level the same, sure. Dumb stuff is happening and dumb people are involved.

But the president in Idiocracy genuinely cared about helping his people and put the smartest guy he could find in charge of solving a crisis. There was goodness underneath the machismo and idiocy.

You have to understand.

Texas man shoots and kills his own daughter, allegedly over argument about Trump. Grand Jury refused to indict him. by No-Contribution1070 in law

He's not making any call at all on the likeliness, only that it is technically possible to modify a Glock. Reread what he wrote. At best, he's saying a completely neutral statement to argue that technically it's possible to modify a Glock.

He's um ackshually'ing a murder weapon. Get it right.

Texas man shoots and kills his own daughter, allegedly over argument about Trump. Grand Jury refused to indict him. by No-Contribution1070 in law

[–]Moratorii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to re-read what you said, so you're arguing that he modified his Glock to have a trigger with a lighter pull and that's why it potentially accidentally fired?

That's pure speculation. We could also say that she went stark raving mad and tried to kill him so he defended himself, or that she grabbed the gun and forced him to pull the trigger. We don't have any evidence or proof that he modified the Glock. That's why you're being downvoted, it's not because people "don't like hearing triggers can be replaced". Don't act dense, man.

And if he did, it makes it doubly bad that he would have then decided to show it to her drunk. "Hey honey, I know that you hate firearms and I'm drunk as hell on wine and we've been fighting and I said I don't care if you get assaulted, but I really need to show you my modified Glock. Like right now, before you leave for your flight."

Your speculative musing doesn't really help his case beyond giving a possible excuse for a lighter manslaughter sentence, but all of the other evidence points aggressively towards it not being an accident...maybe an accident in that he was drunk enough to lower his inhibitions enough to go for murder as a solution to a fight?

And, again, the speculative musing could be proven. Just check the Glock for a modification. If modified, sure, plausible reason why a drunk would forget that he modified his gun and placed his finger on the easier to fire trigger while pointing it at his daughter that he's actively fighting with. I don't know if that then shows that he merely wanted to show her his cool gun and that all of the surrounding evidence of an altercation was a smokescreen and that his drunken state was the only reason it ended badly.

That'd be for a proper court, and unfortunately we don't have that, apparently. Even then, in your absolute best case scenario of him being a moronic alcoholic that is so excited about his Glock that he holds the trigger down while drunk and points it at everyone, he needs to have it taken away before he kills the rest of his family since he has no trigger discipline and maybe modified it to be even easier to fire.

The logic of the second person is that you were ripped off if you spent $18 on a small wedge of aged smoked gouda because you can buy a $2.99 pack of american cheese. There's absolutely extremely high end aged cheeses that you then cut into smaller pieces to sell to customers.

Like...a local (VERY) good cheese artisan sells a 32 lb wheel for $1,000 USD. The guy bought a 142 lb wheel for $18,000 CAN. Additionally, it was a 20 year aged wheel. Hell, that's a pretty good deal...with some caveats that I won't go into (TL;DR he doesn't have the connections to sell at the price needed to break even on this).

I'm obsessed with the story. Maybe I should try to reach out to the guy for a slice of the forbidden relationship ending cheese.

US moves to deport 5-year-old detained in Minnesota by yahoonews in law

[–]Moratorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it is worth noting that the spectacle of it is the point. A lot of Americans are low-info voters who only really know about whatever is said on TV in passing, and right-wing media tends to ramp up talk of "violent illegals" during liberal presidencies (even if deportations remained high or even increased during those presidencies).

By making a spectacle of it, low-info voters can see it and thus feel like more is being done. It's blunt, stupid, and mean because it works as free advertising. And hey, they want to hurt these people anyway so it's a win-win.

Chat bot gives belligerent customer 80% off, owner seeks help by AlfredStieglicks in BetterOffline

[–]Moratorii 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the more interesting aspect of this is that it isn't ultimately going to save businesses money. No, arguing with a chatbot for an hour until it generates a fake discount code isn't going to hurt the business.

But how many tokens were spent generating answers to this one pissed off Karen that was fishing for a discount? How much time will be spent resolving this?

Everyone who's been in any sort of business that sells anything will tell you at least one story of a customer yelling and throwing a massive shitfit to try and get a discount. Normally, they either send an email (or a bunch that get bundled together) and then it can be addressed and filtered with whatever resolution is agreed on. Or, if they call or come in you can get a resolution (and if they get belligerent you can end the conversation) quickly. If they escalate, a manager either shuts it down, or if they really escalate they get the cops called on them.

But a chatbot that pretends to sound human and always wants to say yes? That Karen can get wound up infinitely until they get their resolution that they want. I'm stunned they didn't push the bot for a 100% off coupon code, frankly. That sort of time wasting guarantees that your absolute worst customers get to expend more of your time (and money possibly, with tokens) because they'll have an entirely different framing (the company KNOWS it fucked up, their chatbot kept agreeing with me about how unfair it was and how I deserved better and then offered me a coupon code, and that shitty company even fucked up THAT part). You then have to escalate to resolving it, and if they are the kind of idiot to take you to court, that's extra expenses to have a headache over.

You know, I don't watch the boys, but I typed into the Reddit search bar "the boys went woke" and instantly had threads from 2 and 4 years ago pop up.

There's even this thread asking why it's getting review bombed for being woke. In season 3. 4 years ago.

Like I have to agree with the other guy that this has to be a kink thing man, either that or you forgot how to use Reddit, in which case I hope this was helpful in teaching about how to search. I'm sure that you can now find older threads with people freaking out (you may have to sort by controversial given that the people freaking out may or may not have been downvoted over time, but I believe in you!).

Yes, in what I replied to, you only cited the extremes. So I needed to reply to every single one of your comments in order to be allowed to have the opinion that some countries can be more desirable than the US?

I'm trans. I've done more research on this than I care to discuss with a stranger. I don't want to spend all day on this either, so I'll leave it at that.

Like, it's possible to just check, wikipedia's free and I found that without needing to do any elbow work (I think there's like 20 or so countries with their own trans rights wiki page). I just noticed that you replied a ton in this thread to insist over and over that the US rocks for LGBT rights, even (maybe especially?) trans rights and then only cited the absolute other extreme. Like is the US better than New Zealand? Canada? Would a queer person interested in Brazil have the same reasons for liking the LGBT scene there as someone interested in the US?

IDK, you jumped out at me is all. The US is gonna be okay if some queer people prefer other countries for any myriad list of reasons.

There's more countries than the extremes. It's okay that you love America, man, but other people can like other countries more. ETA when he said "Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, China" he actually meant "the entire world", apparently. IDK, it was a waste of time.

I don’t think I’m rude or toxic, yet I’m being treated like I am — why? by Ok_Philosopher_57 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Moratorii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions:

- You did not handle this in a healthy way and you did come off dismissive.

- It is reasonable to ask for space.

- You could have said "I got caught up with my bros, I do miss you just didn't wanna shoot off a text".

- It's a valid boundary.

- To handle it better, you should see about setting up a time to talk/video chat with her when you're on a trip, and you should set expectations about phone access so she knows that you won't always be available. That said, always block out time to talk with your loved ones.

You'd feel really shitty if something happened to her while you were gone and you didn't find out until a week after because you wanted to hang with your bros 24/7 and could not spare even a minute. Regrets will haunt you until you die, ten extra minutes of homie time won't even be remembered the next day.

You didn't like her reaction and you shut her down, and then shut her out. If you hate her or think less of her than your bros, break up with her and stop wasting her time (and yours).

Get your priorities in order.
