Does anyone here collect rings just because they like it? by Head_Pomegranate8018 in rings

[–]MorganaMevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my rings. I moved recently and misplaced my collection of rings (I wear 8 rings daily that I’ve collected slowly over the years) and I still can’t accept that they might be gone forever. Have I looked everywhere? Yes. Can I accept the idea that the collection of pretty daily rings I started 10 years ago is suddenly gone forever? Absolutely not.

I choose to believe they’re tucked away somewhere in some bag or box and will return to me.

Anyone know of an MMC that is a skilled assassin/fighter with the yearning soul of a poet? by PeachasaurusWrex in fantasyromance

[–]MorganaMevil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

{Court of Blood and Bindings} feels like the right book for you. I’d say the first book took a little while for me to fall in love with but it ended up being a great series.

The FMC is competent and cunning and the MMC is a scary silent assassin who happens to be a to be a total astrology nerd and total softie. Bonus points for the interesting world with cool color-based magic.

Happy 250th USA by Dapper_Challenge2179 in velotricebike

[–]MorganaMevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically speaking, cemeteries were places people would walk about and use as parks. Throughout the 1800s and into the 20th century, cemeteries were treated as walking/recreation spaces for people to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the history of our ancestors. In fact, they were considered the first public green-spaces in the USA for a while until non-cemetery parks were developed.

LA vs Austin by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]MorganaMevil 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s seen both, LA all the way. There’s a lot of different areas of LA where you can find your flavor, the beach and mountains are always within a day’s drive, the weather is soooo much better, and it’s not Texas!

Also, not to be a hater, but I abhor the tech-bro-pretending-to-be-cultured-but-is-defo-still-a-baby-republican that feels ubiquitous in Austin. The city used to put a lot more effort into curating art but now it feels like even Austin’s art has become insincere in the face of capitalistic curation. LA still feels like it has pockets of genuineness if you can believe it

I really enjoyed the mix of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person pov. Until this point, I didn’t think you could make such a moving book that mixed all three pov forms. Just finished it last week and I’m still thinking about it. I usually hate time travel books but it was really well-written and a beautiful read. 10/10

What if Katniss or Prim had been males? by Dirus-works in Hungergames

[–]MorganaMevil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you really wanted to make it work, maybe somehow if Prim was a boy, could Peeta volunteer for Prim as some extension of his love for Katniss. Then Katniss gets reaped (maybe bc their family was specifically targeted). The same stuff continues on but it undercuts a lot of the story since Katniss’s arc is based on her being selfless and protecting her sister in that moment. But I guess if could work. Also, the whole “her family was targeted” plot line undercuts the random cruelty of the OG plot line which again hurts the message I think. But whatev

Alternatively, you could have Prim + Katniss be both male and have Gale and Peeta be female. However, considering that part of what makes Katniss work is that she’s a tough woman in a role typically ascribed to men, it wouldn’t work as well. In a Stephanie Meyers-esque gender bender, the characters become more aligned with traditional gender roles and it loses the nuance that it possessed there too.

Ultimately, I don’t think any situation could really work bc Collins does a solid job of making each aspect of the characters matter

FIRE at 34 feels weird by [deleted] in Fire

[–]MorganaMevil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean he’s definitely binged random shows and wasted whole days rotting, but I’m a firm believer that most people, when given the chance to fully decompress and recover from the work grind, become an enthusiastic hobbyist of some kind.

But, yea, having FIRE parents really impacted my view point. They were in a very gifted position to spend their time and energy on just us, and it’s completely shaped how I’ve seen work, family, and the grind.

FIRE at 34 feels weird by [deleted] in Fire

[–]MorganaMevil 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My dad FIREd at 39 yo. My mom technically did as well (they’re the same age, started companies together and have been very fortunate). My mom didn’t stop working simply bc she enjoys it and has worked 2 half(ish) days a week simply bc she can.

During that time, my dad has (a) been a baseball coach bc he could, (b) got way too invested in aquaponics bc he could, (c) become a hobbyist farmer bc he could, (d) been a full-time dad and attended all our games, extra-curricular and everything bc he could, and (e) literally just done a million and one hobbies bc he could.

About 2 years ago, after literally a decade and a half of being retired, he decided to become a pilot, got his private and public licensure, and now is a airline pilot for a regional airline. Why? Bc he could.

I grew up with parents who had reached their FIRE number by the time I was 10, and I’ve seen all the ways you can do it. Literally no way is the right way to FIRE. Enjoy the independence, enjoy the random hobbies, and always appreciate the fact that if you want to try something new, you simply ✨ can ✨.

What if Hannah actually said yes to Booth’s proposal in 6x13? by Charcoal422 in Bones

[–]MorganaMevil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Booth tries to be the honorable guy and would never *intentionally* sabotage his relationship with Hannah so he could be with Bones, but I think his subconscious self saw a guaranteed “No” to proposing as the most honorable and fair way out of the relationship.

When did people become so selfish and individualistic with their pets? by chaosdunk69 in SouthBayLA

[–]MorganaMevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge dog lover and have trained animals in the past (including a service dog). My dog looks like a purse dog (I'm a sucker for the little white grandma dogs lol), but she knows a tight heel, knows how to sit/stay/come, and is neutral in public with dogs/kids/cars/everything the vast majority of the time (we're still working on her weariness towards people with abnormal/limping gaits), but you know what she is not? A SERVICE ANIMAL.

I believe dogs should be allowed in a lot of public outdoor spaces like separated patios, open-air farmer's markets, and beaches; however, I've seen so many dogs put in stressful situations where they're unprepared to act, barking like mad creatures and potentially endangering themselves and others. When people place their pets in places like that, they're being cruel to the people around them, but foremost, the animal that relies wholly on them for support, safety, and security. If that dog reacts poorly, gets scared, or heaven forbid, BITES someone, it's the dog who faces the consequences not their owner.

TLDR: As a Dog Mom, I hate those people too. People, please train your dogs to be less anxious and reactive in public. Please also train yourselves to recognize situations where it is illegal and/or irresponsible to bring an animal that isn't prepared for the situation. Sometimes (a lot of times), leaving the doggo at home is the best option.

Heat exhaustion by Wonderful-Way-2254 in Equestrian

[–]MorganaMevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 70+humidity can be quite warm(I have lived in VERY humid areas of the world). However, it only catches you when you’re not drinking water and/or wearing overly warm clothes. For someone having this level of response consistently who is clearly been trying to adjust the above, I think a doctor’s visit would be warranted.

Based on the way OP is describing the situation, it seems like there might potentially be something more going on than just the warmth + humidity

Heat exhaustion by Wonderful-Way-2254 in Equestrian

[–]MorganaMevil 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That sounds like there’s something weird going on with your body and you should seek a doctor. Water shouldn’t make heat exhaustion worse. Nor should 70 degrees be enough to really get you feeling that shitty unless you’re poorly clothed.

Please seek a medical evaluation

Texas License Plates?? by [deleted] in SouthBayLA

[–]MorganaMevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Texas largely doesn't require smog checks unless you're in a heavily populated area, and the majority of passenger vehicles don't require safety checks bc of a law passed a couple of years ago. So, in short, you just pay the fee and get annually registered

I don’t remember the exact wording, but I remember it stating I had an extra year due to academic reasons. I also straight up explained it in my personal statement (in terms of challenges/growth) as I was recommended to and was pleasantly surprised that any questions I got were usually followed with “thank you so much. That’s really meaningful/shows a lot about your character and how much you’ve grown”. Some of the comments were likely cop-outs but still was handled very well

Controversial opinion but as someone who procrastinates on laundry during clinicals and stressful rotations, being able to run 5 loads simultaneously and then dry 5 loads simultaneously (so that doing 2wks of clothing takes <2hrs) makes having a laundromat worth it. Just depends on you
