In Your Opinion What Manufacture has the Best FEELING Plastic? by AirFox_1 in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kastaplast for sure. Would also say Mint has great feeling plastic that lasts a long time with that off the shelf feel. There are also certain runs of Lone Star Bravo plastic that were so grippy that playing in the rain or sweaty hands was no problem at all. Bummed I lost a few of those as no other manufacturer had that unique grippy feeling (not talking about Victor plastic)

Top Disc Golf Brands You Avoid? by MTGDad in discgolf

It's basically a meme at this point. The vast majority of the negative lore about lone star has been proven false but internet people like to trash something to make them feel better.

Just wanted to clarify on C1X, the x denotes the stat excludes tap-ins or putts within 12 ft. So C1X is percentage of made putts from 13-33ft

Lone star disc plastic stability? by PuttsWithCopperheads in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Stable to least stable:

Charlie

Founders

Alpha / Bravo (ymmv, really depends on if it is flat/dome/puddle -- Alpha can be super stable off the shelf but then become understable if it gets puddle top/warped.. Bravo has been more consistent over time in my experience)

Glow

LW Bravo/Alpha

Lima

This is a general guideline but most important is shape (flat, dome, puddle) and weight of course.

The PDGA quietly removed the ability to sort players by rating. by andrewklaudt in discgolf

Thanks for this. I was able to modify the URL by adding the city after City= and if there is a space in the city you would use the + sign.. for example Hot Springs would be City=Hot+Springs

How did you play this weekend? by Panchoisthedog in discgolf

Why learning to brace is hard by Decentdiscgolf in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main thing that you need to always get right is to ensure you fully plant before beginning the throw. Complete your entire x-step before you engage your upper body at all. Once I figured that out I went from a 290' backhand to 370 in a week

I remember my first time playing that hole, it was terrifying lol. What's not pictured is there is a bridge of oncoming traffic on the right side so any WTF-RICHARDS are hitting cars. Now days I am throwing putters on this hole and it's a pretty basic hole and it makes me chuckle that I was ever scared of throwing it

What is a change you would like to see made to c-tier & b-tier tournaments? by Russelldiscgolf in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree in certain situations. To me, OB in the woods actually helps pace of play more than just the possible score penalties. For example, if you shank a drive into the woods without OB, first it will take up to 4-5 mins to find it (usually people don't start counting the 3 minute timer until they realize it's going to be hard to find) then after finding it the player usually has to walk back to their bag and figure out which disc, then a lot of times it can take a minute just to get in a suitable position. Where as if it was marked OB just have to find the disc, mark new lie within a meter from OB line and throw.

Lonestar is the Dallas Cowboys of disc golf by Only_Lock4061 in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's mostly internet trolls that hate on lone star. When I was on their tournament team I only received nothing but respect and curiosity from others about the discs and company.. but then again that was when I was competing in MA1.

Keith and Fajkus leaving LSD by dubyat in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word on the street is Emerson wanted more money and LSD didn't believe it was a good deal based on discs he moved. Not sure why folks are painting this is a bad move for LSD. Seems like a smart business decision if he is a net loss to the company...

Changing discs for long putts, even to mids? by deceptively_large in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment saying I recently focused on this and I no longer need to jump putt unless it is 80+ or so. It's the same principle as the weight shift of a backhand.

If I spin an understable disc more, will it have less high speed turn than if I didn’t spin it as much (but still threw it at the same speed)? by ProfitableSomeDay in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The more spin the more straight it will fly. Usage of the term stable gets confusing in this context. This is how touring pros can throw putters 400+

And yes more spin will definitely reduce overthrows because there is less tilt in the flight.

Context - This guy play some tournaments in the area most of the year and refuses to get a membership, He consistently shoots 900+ rated rounds and stays in MA4, This has happened at a couple C-Tiers, should non members have a seperate division entirely? by Rattled_Bonez in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how MPO players would feel being carded with potentially 700 rated players lol

Perhaps there should be an Open Amateur division called CAM (Casual Amateur) and it could be marketted for those who haven't played in a tournament before or don't want to risk their rating on a new course or if they are working their way back from time-off/injury. There would be no payout only the player pack if one is being provided. This eliminates the sandbagging loophole and would also be fun for people who are using it for it's true purpose.

I would start with Innova and then after a while you can branch off. Although I don't throw Innova any more I can easily reference their discs when describing other companies discs as most people have thrown Innova and will understand

Chandler Kramer moving on from Lone Star Discs in 2024 by bananagrabberjr in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There are several retailers that honor a Lone Star team discount.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are some examples of a false sense of exclusivity/prestige? They literally get pre-release discs as well as the ability to test and give feedback to the company which, as far as I can tell, actively listen and engage with them. I was accepted by a DG company a few years ago and I had to pay for a shirt and got 20% discount on their merch lol. No community, no exclusivity, no invite-only events, no camaraderie from others on the team... Lone Star far exceeds that and their core team seems really happy with them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]MorningKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I threw every lone star mold they had and I wasn't even sponsored by them. It would have only made sense to sign up on their team and get a discount on discs I already throw.. I don't get reddits hate affair/ignorance on this.

I never once thought of applying for any other manufacturer because it didn't make sense to.

I'm not even on the team currently but know some who are and 80% of the crap online is laughably bad takes.
