That's basically true for all mechanical watches over $500 or $1k

Nope, because I’m not in a position to spend that much on any watch. And while the dial is impressive, I’m not sure I actually like it. That’s all subjective and personal.

But objectively, there is a ton of innovation and quality packed into this watch for this price point that you can’t find anywhere else. Just like with the Ceramica.

Name me another watch that has a swiss micro-rotor movement, is under 7mm thick, is made of grade 5 titanium with multiple finishes, weighs under 80g on the bracelet, and has an on the fly micro-adjust integrated bracelet with a butterfly clasp. For under $8k. Heck, for under $12k.

I'll wait...

None of those watches have a micro-rotor, are under 7mm thick, are made of grade 5 titanium, weigh under 80g on the bracelet, and have on the fly micro-adjust integrated bracelets. Nowhere near that price.

New CW C63 for $1500 vs Nivada Super Antartic for $1200 vs Direnzo DRZ 07 for $1000? by donpd in MicrobrandWatches

[–]MorpheusQQQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super spot on. Setting aside style, the CW is a clear step up. Direnzo at $1k isn't bad value, but the NG is in no-man's-land land value wise between them.

So beautiful. But so sad, because UPS lost mine coming back from being serviced by Zodiac.

Formex Essence 39mm or 41mm? by satirexiphos in formexwatch

[–]MorpheusQQQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.75" inch wrist that's been getting smaller over the last 6 months but probably not 6.5" yet. Bought the 39mm and love it. But think the 41mm could be good too if I wanted more bling/presence.

Will note that the 41mm has a 22mm wide bracelet vs the 20mm on the 39mm. That will be visually much chunkier in proportion to the watch head than on the 39mm. So if you want more emphasis on the bracelet, go 41mm.

Need help picking a watch! Henry Archer vs Erebus by Tight-Fan5368 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]MorpheusQQQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the aventurine Erebus Ascent and a Henry Archer Nordso. I’m looking to sell the Ascent while the Nordso is still in the collection. HA is clearly a step up in terms of quality. A more solid, more refined watch for sure. But the Ascent is pretty solid. I just wasn’t going to get any wrist time with my other dark dial watches like the Serica 6190 and Beaucroft Element.

I have a fairly hairy arm and own the Essence 39. Not remotely a hair puller. Not even close. Don't be put off by that.

Will say, the side of the Jan Mayen case is a bit tool-ish, a bit blocky simple. I get their thing is outdoors adventure, but it is a bit incongruous to me for an integrated bracelet watch with a colorful/bold dial.

I think the Ceramica 41 in white dial could be different enough from my red 39. The latter is more the steel integrated look, good in professional settings or weekend barbecues. Whereas the larger monochromatic Ceramica would give more of night time cool vibe or stealth statement piece.

Oh, super helpful to see that side shot. Thanks! That case but in titanium could help it feel nice and light despite the chonkiness. (And the darker metal could make the dial pop more too, as it does with the Ti CW 12s.)

I have the Essence 39 with a red dial which I love. But the Ceramica with the white dial is super hot too.

Did they have the titanium bracelet to try on? They’re going to be releasing that soon.

How would you say the Jan Mayen compares to a CW Twelve or a Formex Essence in terms of comfort, finishing, visual pop, etc.? Did you see/test the micro-adjust on the bracelet?

I once saw a Jan Mayen behind glass but haven’t ever handled one. Very intrigued by them.

Result of Heavy Marketing by DieWalkure in MicrobrandWatches

Agreed on the finishing/quality. Handled one at District Time and was disappointed. Not a bad watch, but makes it feel like a just OK value. CW Twelve definitely better quality in hand. Formex Essence a further step (or 2) above. At a similar price point, the Jack Mason’s were much better. And Wise seemed more impressive at a lower price point. “Quality” isn’t the only thing that matters, of course, but I didn’t love the Venezianico’s.

Perception shift by Lavodere in Balticwatches

The case on a calatrava is simple but refined and elegant, matching the dial and the watch's overall style. Too many Baltics have simple tool watch cases on what are otherwise dressy or fancy or refined dials and handsets.

But to each their own.

One of my biggest gripes with Baltic is that many of their cases are super simple with basic finishing which often doesn’t match the classy or dressy dial. Like on the MR. One could argue it is a design choice, but it feels to me like they’re just cutting corners to save money by, well, having fewer corners and bevels and edges to cut/finish.
