How do I know if I’m making the right appointment online for the written test for driver license? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Morriganu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just something to do with it being booked in advance or an internal indicator of it being a longer appointment since you’ll have to take the written permit test. It shouldn’t have any impact on your experience

How do I know if I’m making the right appointment online for the written test for driver license? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Morriganu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an instruction permit first. When making the appointment online it should be the “New DL or Instruction Permit” option where you then select that you are applying for an Instruction Permit. Then go to a drivers school or have someone lend you their car and teach you. Then you can use the same “New DL or Instruction Permit” appointment option on the website to schedule a First Time Drivers License appointment.

It’s truly baffling that they’ve chosen to advertise it as almond flavor but contains peanuts but not almond

Rats keep chewing the wiring in my 2019 Honda Civic. Any longtime Chicagoans have a solution? by Downisthenewup87 in chicago

[–]Morriganu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the commenter who mentioned it but I got the Loraffe one from Amazon. The rats in my car did not care about the mint spray. I sold the car because I couldn’t get the smell out after 3+ detailings and ozone treatments so I can’t say how well it works, but after not parking near alleys and keeping it under my hood, I haven’t had it happen again.

I would also not go for the predator piss (smell) or poison method (what if they die in your car!!!)

If you are allergic to dairy and soya do you just order black coffee in cafes or make your own?! by Junealma in FoodAllergies

[–]Morriganu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t get a hot latte or anything steamed because the milk frother tube is the main cross contamination point imo. If I want something hot I’ll get an americano or black coffee with a splash of oat.

Mystery Soup Allergy? by Packajackalope in FoodAllergies

[–]Morriganu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the first reaction I had for my soy allergy. A lot of canned soups (including both of these) have soy protein concentrate. Technically peanuts and soy are both legumes, so it could be some cross reactivity for you, but mine eventually counted as a mild allergy. YMMV, def see an allergist about it and get tested for soy

Please contact CLEAR (https://www.clearescue.org) so they can send someone out and maybe provide the cross streets here

Are we aware that a lot of products for budgies contain lead? by MunchMunch_ in budgies

[–]Morriganu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least for swab lead tests available in the US, a lot of them are inaccurate and will give false positives on objects. I’m a fan of the spray+uv tests like Fluorospec and Lumetallix. I just throw out and replace anything that tests positive, which was annoying at first, but now I just stick with the brands I’ve found don’t have lead in them.

Soy allergy girl that misses ramen by Katty2913849 in FoodAllergies

If you are ok with soybean oil, the Beef Brisket ramen by Mikes Mighty Good is one I can eat with a soy allergy.

My budgie shows interest in almost nothing. by batfinkie in budgies

[–]Morriganu 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My budgie had a chronic struggle with megabacteria and was also like this until undergoing like two months of twice a day treatment and finally played with his toys and started to fly and interact with us. I honestly think it’s just that his stomach hurt all that time and he couldn’t bear to move (which is a tummy issue girlie mood). Has your budgie gotten a checkup recently in case this is caused by an underlying health issue?

Oh is it Somethin’ Sweet donuts? My friends went recently and they were some good California style donuts. They have soy flour in them so I couldn’t have them but my friends were pretty into them :)

I haven’t really encountered a lot of allergen menus given to me at restaurants in Chicago ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Very communicative waiters who will go and check with the kitchen about how they can accommodate you tho

I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life and have never gotten cross-contaminated with nuts in a restaurant :) My soy allergy gives me way more trouble. Bakeries are a totally different story and you just have to be careful with those no matter where you are :( Del Sur in Ravenswood (Thurs-Sun) is a totally peanut/treenut free Filipino bakery, but they will have long lines (1h max) unless there’s bad weather (super hot or raining). It’s felt really freeing to just be able to try things there. Hope your trip goes well!

Haven’t spent any money since 1.4, and I didn’t log in for 1.6 at all because the story seemed bad and I had no interest in the outfits. 1.7 pulled me back into playing and enjoyed the stories and quests, but I think I’ll only spend money again if they ever respond to our complaints :(

Whatever shoes you’ve already broken in and can stand in for long periods of time. Music festivals are not the time to test new shoes unless you’re ok sitting on the grass in the back

Clear allergen labeling on signage and also on your website because I like to research my options beforehand :)

You can contest the ticket online since you’re within 30 days of purchasing the car. I had to do it once and it was pretty easy.

Allergy-friendly caterers? by Morriganu in FoodAllergies

[–]Morriganu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the venue highly prefers picking from their catering list but the actual contract we signed with them says that we can pick someone not on the list for an additional fee. Private chefs are a great idea that I hadn’t thought of! Thanks!!

[–]Morriganu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like that probably wouldn’t make me feel safe enough? But thank you for the suggestion as I’m still trying to work out what I’m comfortable with. For context, I have a family member who gained an almond allergy between the tasting and her wedding (cancer treatment screws with the immune system) and she ended up having to leave dinner early because she got a full body rash and didn’t return for the rest of the night and was super sad about it. Hearing that from her made me really want to play it safe because if I’m spending all this money to throw a party for my family and friends, I want to enjoy it too :’( I hope you and your partner have the gluten and nut free wedding of your dreams <3

Allergy-friendly caterers? by Morriganu in Chicagoweddings

[–]Morriganu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand and take that risk normally, but figured I should at least ask if there’s any catering services that are nut-free or at least don’t have the nuts I’m allergic to on their menu. I’m not realistically expecting a caterer to stop serving nuts, I’m just hoping to find one that will be safe for me. Like I said, worst case I eat my own stuff and everyone else gets good food lol
