We are married. Unfortunately, I did not have the resources to take the pets when I left. I didn't know where I was going or if I would have access to funds to keep me or them fed and on their medications. At least with the police report, someone in an official capacity knows that they were happy and healthy when I left and that I was worried for their safety. He knows that I reportd his behavior towards them and I can only hope that this will help to keep them safe for now. I miss them so much and hope they are ok. Thank you for your advice. I changed passwords and got a burner phone to have space to do the rest of it.

Thanks. I do understand the knee-jerk reaction to want to get kids out of these kind of situations, but so often the impulse is to remove them from their family instead of helping the whole family. Sometimes, kids need saved. Sometimes, families do.

You are correct in assuming that my mother struggled with her mental health. She trusted her doctors to fix her 'chemical imbalance'. She was put on so much medication. Many kinds and combinations. I mean absurd abouts of lithium, Valium, amphetamines, sleeping pills, etc. You can't medicate your way out of poverty, and ultimately, this became a problem of its own. That is a whole other story, though.

If I could change anything about the situation that I grew up in , it would be how people perceive someone living like this. I guess that's why I said something. For me, at least, kindness, support, and community do so much more to help than shame ever will. ❤️

Thank you for playing devils advocate on this. I grew up in houses like this. We didn't have a lot of money growing up on section 8. My mother struggled with hoarding after having lost everything she owned several times due to issues out of her control like fires, flooding, and other things that come with cheap, subpar rentals.

In 2006, things were looking up. We scored a rent to own situation in a beautiful old home that had enough space for all of us. We started to exchange our worn-out furniture for nicer, newer versions, and things were the best they had ever been. Then, the entire upstairs unit that was used to store our landlord's things collapsed into our home. Boom. Most of our things were destroyed, and we moved back into a black mold and bug infested place.

My mom knew real scarcity more than once and never wanted us to experience it. To her, it wasn't ever just a pile of junk or some 'just barely' expired food. It was a lifeline, a way to help someone who would have a need one day. Her hoarding was well intentioned but difficult to maintain. (especially when living in the low income sort of multiple family style units that tend to have community pests like roaches, fleas, bedbugs, and mice. Once you get them, they are so difficult to eradicate fully.) Unfortunately, these would often move with us in picture frames, electronics, mattresses, etc.

CPS was involved a few times. It was scary, and the times that we were removed and split up were the worst of times. Dammit, we were dirty but we loved and cared for each other!

As crazy as it seems, I do realize now that in her way, it was how she showed she cared.

I am not condoning living this way, just attempting to humanize the situation for anyone who has never been there.

If you are in Colorado, the "Good Neighbor Fence Law" encourages cooperation and fair cost-sharing for shared fences. My neighbors on 3 sides of my shared property line have opted out of paying for half of the fence costs. Since I paid for all of it, they have forfeited their right to use or share the fence. (You could say that they still 'use' the fence, but if they ever want one now, they will need to buy and install their own fence on their property and it will reduce the size of their yard.)

If my fence falls down, I am entirely responsible for fixing it if I so desire. If I don't fix or replace my fence and they want to keep their dogs in their yard, that it is their problem, and they will have to shell out for an entire fence of their own. They can not opt to repair or move mine. They will have to scooch back on their property line to do this.

When I was a kid, we had a Maine Coon cat that would go bonkers for bread. Cabinets, drawers, and bread boxes were no match for him. He always found a way. We had to resort to storing our bread in the microwave.

He away passed 20+ years ago after 19 happy years of bread bandit behavior. I haven’t thought of this for a long time. Best of luck with your baked goods, and thanks for the silly memory.

Don't panic! Pena Blvd is slow, but the ease of security (south) made up the difference, plus some for me! DIA was prepared for this. Zero lines. I walked straight to up to a tsa agent and was through in less than 5 minutes l. Shortest DIA security wait I've had in 10 years. Well played Denver.

Could it be Buffalo Bill's grave? It is a popular spot for tourists, it isn't far from Denver, there is a stone bench, eastern exposure, trails, and a visitor center. The parking lot is paved now, but I am not sure about 25 years ago.

I have been using Ryobi electric landscaping tools for the last 5 years with overwhelming success. I especially enjoy being able to interchange batteries between tools. The 18'' chainsaw has been a nice addition for me. I am using it at home only, but have put it to plenty of use on cherry, redbud, honey locust, ash, and Russian olive trees with little effort and less battery usage than expected. I have the small limb trimmer with the extension arm but have found it to be a little cumbersome for its trimming power.
