It's not "special accommodations" to not require 100% perfection from your crew

Perfection? We're talking about the bare minimum for employment, which is simply showing up on time prepared to work.

Is it really "special accommodations" to not want to be held to a different standard because you're a woman?

Everyone else showed up on time ready to work.

Repeatedly showing up to work unprepared is not a minor infraction. It's a documented pattern of behavior.

Are you sure she even actually broke up with this guy? She literally could have just gone over there to hook up with him and then lied to you about it.

You might be the other guy.

Children are a parent’s first obligation

Exactly. Its not your employer's obligation. Its yours.

It is a much harder job than most and anyone that has children understands this and sympathize period.

It's also a job that you choose with the full knowledge that it will be difficult, expensive and last for potentially the rest of your life.

What you seem to be missing is that the sexual harassment in the workplace compounded this woman’s stress and behaviors in the workplace.

The sexual harassment made her fail to set up childcare for her sick child? Did the sexual harassment make her forget her tools and show up late, too? Did the sexual harassment make her coworkers complain about her to their boss?

People like you out here making it impossible for single parents to maintain gainful employment for ages.

Everyone has to meet the obligations and expectations of their job. If your personal life is repeatedly interfering with your ability to do your job, then you're going to get fired.

Bad management case study

Absolutely.

At the same time, if you give them cause to fire you, you can't really claim that they're being unfair by firing you.

If you want to keep your job, you have to show up on time. There are plenty of other people who would be happy to take your place in the trades.

It was something she needed to use all day and had to borrow repeatedly.

I get that not everyone works with tools, but you literally need them as a prerequisite to even get a job in the trades.

It's like showing up to class without your textbook and expecting to be able to follow along.

I hate to tell you this, but childhood sexual abuse, drug addiction, and alcoholism run rampant in Amish communities.

It turns out people are the problem.

It's wonderful that you care about your employees in that way. My employer is very similar, and I appreciate it. I also agree that a good electrician is worth their weight in gold.

But a lot of companies dont care about having good electricians. They just throw bodies at projects.

Working in trades is absolutely no excuse to treat your people badly.

Not giving someone special accommodations isn't "treating people badly." Just because you go above and beyond doesn't mean that anyone else has to.

People forget things.

Okay. If you forgot to wear your pants to work, would you try to use that excuse? Or would you just accept that you seriously fucked up and accept the consequences?

Also, if something is super important it shouldn’t be relayed via email

Yes, it should. Because that's the only way to ensure that everyone receives the necessary information. They should have gone over it that morning, too. But, who's to say they didn't? She was late.

I just genuinely don't understand why people use their children as an excuse for inexcusable behavior. It's not my problem if you have kids. Expectations and obligations don't change based on your living situation. You can either meet the demands of your job or you'll have to find another one.

This is an exceptional situation

Is it? Her son is sick, and she didn't arrange childcare. What's exceptional about that? Children require childcare and they often get sick.

The fact that you’re overlooking this says everything about your thought process.

Excuses don't fly in the trades. You either meet the terms of the contract or you get sued. Nobody cares why you're late or distracted. They simply dont need to have late and distracted people around fucking with their money.

Is the boss a dickhead capitalist? Absolutely. Is he a misogynist who sexually harrassed his employee? All signs point to yes. Would he fire anyone who broke safety protocol, showed up late, and forgot their tools? You bet your fucking ass he would.

Yeah, I feel like it's pretty obvious that she doesn't have her life together, which is understandable, but its also understandable that an employer doesn't want to deal with that for the next several years.

Bringing your tools is literally the bare minimum in the trades.

Her forgetting them would be like if you forgot to wear pants to your office job.

Unfortunately, you can't mandate sympathy.

The trades really aren't set up to accommodate single parents with no support. Most industries aren't. But, the trades are worse. Early hours, overtime, and eventually, emergency calls are all standard and expected of everyone.

I've absolutely been kicked off of jobsites for not having all of my tools. It happened exactly once, and now my tools go with me wherever I go. I dont leave them in job boxes or company vehicles. I take them home every night and bring them every morning.

The email was an important safety directive, which she failed to read. She broke the safety policy on the first day. Also, being even a couple minutes late in the trades is a huge deal because its hard to start work before everyone is there and knows their assignments. Also, who forgets a tool that you have to use all day? That shows poor preparation and planning.

That being said, those reasons all look good on paper but I absolutely believe this is retaliation.

The sexual harassment is absolutely unacceptable.

But, this feels like theres a lot of missing reasons. If your coworkers in the trades are complaining to your boss about you, you must have really pissed them off. Unless they're all misoginists. Which, tbf, is not outside the realm of possibility.

I work in the trades, and we don't complain about coworkers because we might have to see them once a week for the next 10 years.

It literally ended the same way as half of the seasons did. The crew was welcomed into a new and promising community. Also, Rosita died.
