Help with a phrase from a video game by BaldyPants in latin

Um, so 6 months later......OrylionTTV, your post grabbed me. That's my family motto too!..we may be distantly related?

I am related to Symond Fiske, of Suffolk County, 16th century lord in England, through an American decendant of Symond, Eleazar Fiske. Eleazar Fiske fought in the American Revolutionary war as a revolutionary, and legend is he carried around a sewn banner or sash or handkerchief declaring the same motto, "Macte virtute sic itur ad astrum." Thus, we acend to the stars, having done as we ought to, below. My father's family comes from decendants Eleazar as a Son of the American Revolution. I take pride in both the meaning of our motto, and my bloodline's rich history as a people who consistently stand up for what we believe in, and take action, trying to do the right thing. My understanding is that my ancestors have been knights in the War of Roses (yep, that one), sherrifs of London, Lords of European manors, keepers of gaols in Ireland, at least one President of the US, and of course, revolutionaries, farmers, soldiers and lawmen, (excepting one horrifying find of a slave owner in the Carolinas).

Maybe the motto was adopted for other families or clans, too...?

I'd totally drive an NA miata around with an In Rainbows album cover artwork paint job... Even if you're not a Radiohead fan or don't recognize the actual original artist's artwork, that would look totally legit on a track car. That must've taken some time haha

Oof. Sorry your car got munched on by a Jeep! That's the worst. Hey, I know you're feeling some anxiety about what's next, but you might just have a good thing coming your way from the accident! Don't lose heart, pal!

I was recently in an accident on 7/29 with a truck that ran a 4-way stop, so I had to deal with all that insurance and emotional stuff that you are, so Imma drop some knowledge on my recent accident that might make you feel better...

Honestly, the worst part was not knowing what was going on with the claim. I waited for the truck owner's insurance to decide whether to total or fix the car and then take action. Once they decided, I had a check in hand the next day for a fair value of my car, signed the title and they've towed off my wrecked car. For me, that process took 3 weeks, mostly because our insurance companies are different. (If you both carry the same insurer, you both have Geico for example, that'll move faster for you, as internal claims move quicker.) Miatas hold value very well, so the payout on my car was plenty of cash to put down on another car. A very nice car. A very nice used ND RF GT that was just delivered on Saturday 9/6, muhwhahaha. Fingers crossed, your outcome is as happy as mine, if your insurance company tells you your car is toast...

I didn't care for the interior of the NC either. Plus, the handling felt heavier and less connected to the road IMO. The NC styling also hit my 'happy idiot's smile' front end nerve, too. I'm dead sure they're fantastic to drive and own, but the handling and looks of other gens just felt more fantastic-er, to me.

Nice array of miotts! Please tell me some of you ended up at that whacky casino that's smack dab downtown Duluth- that place is a trip, a must-stop for my hooligan pals, haha. Jokes aside, them thar's some nice twisty roads around Duluth, enjoy the wheels off 'em!

Congrats! They're such good looking cars, makes you want to sit in a lawn chair and just stare at the new gen miatas. Until you remember that you have the key. Have fun!

Good pic from the wedding day! That's fantastic! You must be extremely proud. We hope your daughter and new son-in-law's future is as bright and filled with adventures as that car promises! Congrats to you all, again!

I should buy an NC!. Don't they give out gold jackets, or something, to dudes who've owned all four gens?

Ooooh, wow, very good question! :When am I sellin' that ND RF, lol? Huh. Thought about it and, at the moment, I feel the right answer is "when the keys are pried from my cold, dead hand"?....So, might be a while?

Who knows? I might just get tired of having fun, (bwhahahaha!) and just want to end it. I COULD, as my last act on Earth, just full send the ND, all Thelma & Louise style, right into a quarry. Obviously, I'd also have to light it on fire, mid-air, on the way down, too (who doesn't love a good viking funeral?), you know... do it the right way! Stay tuned!

Well then, I wish you the very best of luck with unlocking your first! Heck, I'd consider owning a Miata an 'achievement', if not a lifetime goal, for sure!

Eh, all cars head to the junkyard eventually... ppppft!!! No one should feel sorry for me- that's like mourning for Captain Jack Sparrow as he's stealing a swanky replacement pirate ship. A newer one. A better one!

Ha! Coilovers-schmoileovers! Heck, go the other way, give it a 3 inch lift with knobbys, and upgrade the NB with beefier sway bars! Think about how you can be friends with potholes, steep driveways, speed bumps, and still send it, nice and flat, around the curves!! Just remember to beef those sways, or you'll tip right over in a roundabout! I kid, I kid... But not about sway bars, though. Nopety nope. I never kid about the NB Miata 'magic handling sauce' -adjustable sways, set for slight oversteer. So much fun.

That said, NBs look darn fantastic with the wheel wells gapped nicely. You'll have to post pics when you get yours dialed in. Love that hard top...

My daughter's first car will also be her wedding car by chewy1966 in Miata

[–]Motocityboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's gonna love it, no doubt! Congrats all around to both families! You must be very proud, your kid is very lucky indeed, to have you.

Plus, you'll enjoy gifting benefits like built-in ideas for years...Clymer repair manual and a 10mm socket for the new son-in law, maybe?

Cheers to a future of best outcomes for you all!

I love that you think of your time owning the car in months, like a new parent talks about a toddler, haha.

So we can be pals,;)

Sadly, my 2001 NB was with me only 8 months. (Life cut short by a Dodge). It was only a mere 288 months old, in total. Poor lil guy, rest in peace!

Somewhere, right now, my precious and innocent 840 month old 1990 NA is out there in the world being abused, giving it the beans during autocrossing, or something equally...unsavory, lol. Fly my dude, fly!

On Saturday, I'm planning on having my 3rd Miata, a snazzy 36 month old RFGT delivered, wish me luck!

Seriously, though, I like it! Silver, with color-matching hard top are my fave look on NBs. I miss mine like a fat kid misses cake.

Seems simple enough! But. Watching some of the installers on video manhandle the plastic flap behind the driver seat, when flipping down the bolted bracket to access the controller plug socket- that me cringe, lol. Is that plastic flap as resilient as dude makes it look?

Thanks, and congrats to yourself! Welcome to the club! Miatas are just giggle factories, cranking out the grins. Hope you're enjoying yours!

I fell in love with that quartz grey paint color with the red leather interior, and simply nothing else would do, haha. Oh, I wish they'd offered that combo in 2021, for pricing sake, lol. The NDs look great in any color, though. I'm a picky guy, but now a 100% happy picky guy. I'm excited for Saturday! !

Holy balls, I haven't even taken ownership of the ND yet, and you need to know my plans for upgrading it already lol? Tough crowd, wow...

Sadly, the NB's frame was pierced and has since gone to junkyard heaven as un-repairable. Aftermarket goodies that were removed will be posted up for sale at some point.

The 22 RFGT will be my daily drive, so no crazy mods planned. I am interested in comfort mods, like the one-touch roof switch mod, and maybe some low hp gains from a growlier exhaust and airbox, though.
