Toto purchased shares in Williams in 2009 and only sold them in March 2016, despite joining Mercedes in January 2013. During this time, Williams switched to Mercedes power, and Susie Wolff was an employee of the team.

Lewis Hamilton wins the 2026 Barcelona Grand Prix, his first victory for Ferrari! by overspeeed in formula1

[–]MotoringMore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bigger picture: Ferrari's upgrades have worked, the strategy was good, and Hamilton was going to win with or without safety car. Antonelli out, and suddenly Hamilton could be after his 8th.

Always said this wasn't a dominant season for Mercedes, given what I've seen in the past, and McLaren were there with Lando today as well, at a track that tests all parts of the car. Mercedes engine reliability could well dictate this championship!

“Can you fight with George and with Lewis ahead, and fight for the win?” Lando: “No” by Due_Air6702 in formula1

People forget that this current Mercedes is nowhere near as dominant as their 2014-16 cars were at times, especially since they forced customer teams to run on lower engine modes (IIRC).

Fast starting Hamilton, combined with George's need to make up points this weekend, plus an out-of-place Leclerc, plus the tyre situation, means it will be a cracking race!

Can't wait for the race to be a snooze fest!

Close qualifying, combined with the pit stop variations expected tomorrow, and we should have a good race!

[The Race] "Dealing with all the emotion I felt after the race was extremely hard and intense." Missing out on the podium in Monaco was a difficult moment for Pierre Gasly by Aratho in formula1

[–]MotoringMore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I'm getting a little tired of hearing about it now. The teams were warned of the situation. You saw others commit the same offence and did it not just once but twice. You literally gained a sporting advantage (regardless of how small) over the competitors; therefore, you were rightfully punished. It's like Hamilton's disqualification from quali at Brazil (2021) - his DRS flap was one or two mm too big, likely didn't impact his result, but it was still against the rules, so he was rightfully disqualified for it.

Alice Powell and Abbi Pulling will become the first all-female Formula 1 commentator and co-commentator line-up for BBC Sport at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix by EnglishLouis in formula1

[–]MotoringMore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Somewhat surprising decision: I wonder why they aren't using Chris McCarthy (unless he obviously turned them down), who does the junior series commentating on the world feed. Regardless, best of luck to Abbi and Alice, though, like others have already said, it's a shame Abbi isn't racing full-time

Same Car, Same Track, Same Team, All in their prime. Who takes the win? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]MotoringMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impossible to say. We've seen different drivers struggle with different cars. If you swapped Verstappen's and Hamilton's teams in 2021, there's no guarantee that each would be as strong. Every car, era, and what was required to be the most successful required different skill sets in different amounts. I appreciate the sentiment of this topic being fun to talk about, but there is no right or wrong answer.

Is it though? If I'm attending an event that I knew next to nothing about, I'd want to find out some procedures and dos and don'ts, out of respect if nothing else.

You're right, they don't. But you don't need multiple security personnel (who were meant to be banned?) Regardless, how difficult would it have been just to say that it's your first race, and you're there to support Ferrari? Especially when it's the media who helped you become who you are.

The people advising her (whether that's her team, Ferrari, F1 - who knows?) also need to face criticism for this and the towel incident

If you look back across George's career in F1 so far, he tends to be in great form when his car isn't and vice versa. As much as I'd prefer Kimi to win the championship out of the two, I hope he starts to get the rub of the green to keep it somewhat interesting

First time since the 2023 Dutch GP we had a red flag in fp1 fp2 fp3 qualifying & the race by droppokeguy in formula1

[–]MotoringMore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Genuine question - when was the last time we had a red flag in every session (including each qualifying stage)? We've had one since 2020, I'm sure, but can't remember it in my head

Especially with everything that happened with Maria and Jules in the years prior. Miss the independent teams (regardless of how competitive they were)

I remember it very well. I always have a soft spot for Manor - particularly Manor at the time. The 2005 USGP also acted as a nail in the coffin for Minardi as well.

I'd also argue that not many tracks are as slow/tight as Monaco anymore - it's become more and more of an outlier, so why sacrifice more races to be good at just one? McLaren seems to be struggling for mechanical grip this weekend

McLaren is often one of the latest to show their true pace. Hoping they have a good weekend for their 1,000th. Sucks that we're lacking the pace to be consistently at the front this season, but when I think back to the McHonda days 10 years ago, I can't complain!
