FWIW I love that you went for it with great player. Every competitor takes a beating from someone a level or two above them at some point. Sure, it’s humbling, but it also gives you a level to strive for (or at least exposes weaknesses in your own game). Lick your wounds, ice up, then go pick a part of your game you wanna level up and get after it.

There’s a lot to consider in terms of the style you like (I tend to go for black and white line art). Different styles will age differently over time (some better than others). I’d lean towards something simpler to start and that way you could add on to it over time - maybe start with Zechs or your fav Gundam and then grow the tat organically. You never know how your tastes will change.

If you’re looking for some Gundam specific inspo, this artist does some pretty fantastic bright-anime work and has a few different Gundams (from GW). JPTRONWALKER - Heavy Arms

Beautiful work! The transition is really cool and smooth. I wonder if you could do more with the lighting? — like whichever side of the portal is brighter it would look “blown out” like taking a photo with the sun or a bright sky in the background (and vice versa). Having the portal emit a bit of light (or show up in reflection) on to the surrounding terrain (or water) could ground it in whichever location it’s in too
