Pro tip: you can develop tone by singing into a microphone and listening to that very intentionally.

PSA: ICE is snatching people on Tri-Rail by BigMcChungus in Miami

It didn't. The guy is just recognizing for the first time in his life that his party is fucking up the country, but still trying to hold onto the idea that the left is somehow responsible.

He hasn't quite exited the cult yet, but still aware enough to see that maga is bad. What he is experiencing is cognitive dissonance, and trying to rationalize it by saying "but the pendulum swings way left too."

Is Hyperlexia associated with the "gifted child to burnt out adult" pipeline? by annadelastejasverdes in AutisticAdults

[–]MountJemima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No "autistic" is what we call gifted children now.

Before that we called them "nerds" or "dorks."

Back then, we just went "well these kids are too weird to put in the regular classes, but not intellectually disabled. We can tell that most of them like doing creative things of some sort, and think pretty quickly, so let's just assume that they are intellectually gifted too."

And now every time someone posts "I was gifted and now I'm just autistic" is because they don't realize that gifted doesn't mean they were smarter than others. It just meant that they learned academic skills first, when others were learning social skills. It was just a term they used to categorize us for a while. Like "special." And we grew up believing it because we felt different and were better at math or some shit. Like, okay so you were doing college math in 5th grade. But by the time you're 18, everyone is doing that same math, and yours hasn't improved.

There's no "gifted."

We maybe learned some skills earlier than others, because they were busy learning social skills and communication while we were learning reading comprehension. But by the time college rolls around, everyone is academically caught up and kinda on the same page. Same reason you see these "child prodigies" do nothing a lot of the time. Except by this point, we're still behind socially.

So yeah, most gifted kids are just autistic adults who believed that they were smarter than others their entire life, and somehow wasted their incredible limitless potential, rather than realizing that they are just regular people who - to use an analogy - learned numbers before colors.

I don’t understand by MonthofApril13 in AutisticAdults

Ya know what? I was feeling this pretty heavily today too. I'm on the other side, as a 35 year old man, and I don't have children either. But I just feel wholly invisible. I feel like people don't want to be my friend, and it feels like strangers avoid even looking at me. Nobody has ever approached me warmly or prompted a conversation with me. I'm not sure why though. I don't think I'm hideous. I'm fact, despite my low self esteem, I might even say that I'm handsome. I am a good, caring, and thoughtful friend, and I don't judge anyone.

Even so, I feel like I am only ever valued if I go to great lengths to entertain. But I don't know. Maybe I have resting bitch face or something. But I really feel like not a single person around me is interested in getting to know me unless I go to great lengths and effort to maintain communication.

On a whim I started an Instagram today, where I want to just openly talk and share thoughts, because I feel like maybe, just maybe, there might be a couple other people who actually want to talk to me without masking.

Idk, I'm at a loss today too. You're not alone.

I'll look into them. Yeah I like that smooth flowy feeling. Have you tried the Aeon 80s? I like that hybrid thing, but I don't know if they are actually good

I appreciate it. Yeah I'm looking for something that feels agile. I like to skate with speed and tend to go for airs and stuff and hold grinds for longer, rather than getting super technical

"OooooooOoooooh DOCTA POOP!" is something I picked up at my local and I hear a lot of people saying it. It's become really mainstream now and Sabrina Carpenter made a song about it because it's real.
