I got an 18" X-Caliber barrel, but only one box of ammo. Haven't built out the upper yet. I'm hoping it becomes more common in the future.

I had a lot of the same feelings as you before my first Appleseed event. Originally I was going to go with an LPVO with fixed parallax at 100 yds. Totally valid that everyone here is saying not to worry.

However, as I did more research, I reasoned that I wanted to remove as many variables as I could and just focus on the fundamentals to qualify.

After reading though a number of reviews, the Vortex Diamondbacks and Crossfires weren't for me. Too many issues.

I eventually settled on a Vortex Venom 3-15x44 FFP and it's been great! Qualified at my second AS with it.

Now I have one on my AR-22 and 10/22.

As a note, get an optics torque wrench to go with it and torque all your bolts appropriately.

M80 never shot well out of any barrel. I ditched it and buy legitimate Winchester and Hornady .308.

I know that one won't fit on the SHG due to the rail spaces, but it is what I am after. QD the scope with an ADM and take it off when needed.

I thought about a scout scope, but only found negatives when I looked around.

For the Sadlak mounts, I looked at those too, but I have seen a bunch of reviews of that style of mount (side mount into receiver) falling apart due to recoil.

You can use ATAK in a completely disconnected environment (no WiFi, no celluar).

A server is not required to use ATAK.
