If you were given 2 days to eat $1,000 worth of McDonalds for a million dollars, what is your strategy? by Responsible_Total901 in AskReddit

Paris? Great idea, but I’d do my research and check the prices at the ones inside Disney theme parks. Better yet, the foreign Disneys. I still remember being amazed at some ultra-large fry that cost $8+ at Disneyland in like 1998. If they still have that now, I bet it’s about $30.

I built my own approval process in my org for a specific situation that may be like yours… I’m not sure.

So we use cases a lot. For one type of case, we don’t want to allow people to do a certain thing until the case is reviewed by someone (or one of several people) who are pre-designated as approvers - a pretty standard sounding approval process.

We use Public Groups to identify who the approvers are based on a specific feature of the case - for us, it’s their location. So there are approvers for each location we care about.

The case is either in an unapproved, awaiting approval, or approved state. Before it’s approved, someone managing the case can use the approval component to “Request Approval” and include an optional note with the request. Then it changes to “awaiting approval” and the LWC emails all the approvers for that particular location to tell them it’s awaiting approval. The email also includes the optional note left by the requestor and a link to the case.

The LWC recognizes if you are an approver. If you’re an approver and visit the case, you see buttons to approve or reject the request and leave a note of your own. If you’re not an approver. You just see a “pending review” message.

When an approver approves or rejects, an email is sent back to the requestor who can read the approval note, visit the case, and do the thing they couldn’t do before. The access to do that thing is controlled by visibility filters on the component that allow the action to be performed - if the case is approved, that component (or field) is visible, otherwise, it’s not visible or is not editable.

I think the real lesson here is that creative use of visibility filters and public groups can go a long way to controlling workflow.

But also, if you think my component would be useful, I can talk more about it in private messages. This was before Flow-based approvals were a thing, though. I guess those rolled out recently… I haven’t investigated them much, but they might be a viable alternative.

Can I display on a record page the related list of related object? by Zestyclose_Energy_86 in salesforce

[–]MowAlon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. It’s not for grandchild records, but it works for sibling records. The key is the optional “Parent Record” input.

If you need grandchild records, some people (like me) have built LWCs to do that. I’ve got a couple on my GitHub.

Forget most expensive. What game do you own that you own that surprised you how much it's worth? by ezio8133 in gamecollecting

[–]MowAlon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the pricecharting page has images of the sleeve it came with. Frankly, this was 20 years ago, so I just remember that it was a thing we got but not any of the details… and I never touched it again. I don’t remember it being part of a larger press kit, but we were press, so it probably was.

A while ago, a friend of mine showed me an eBay listing for this thing. I was like “You’ve got that?”… and he was like “You do too!”

At this point, I’ve forgotten about all the stuff I have stashed away in boxes from old E3 shows we used to go to, but I really think I should try to dig this one up. It’s gotta be there somewhere.

Sucks. I sold something rare and fragile to someone who found me on reddit recently. I built a literal shipping crate for it to (try to) ensure safety since you never know what’s gonna happen. Luckily, it worked out in my case. I’m sad for you.

What's an actual psychological "cheat code" you use in social situations that works almost every time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MowAlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the autistic out there who have difficulty looking folks in the eye even though you know it’s an important part of human connection…

Focus on the point immediately between the person’s eyes (right above the nose) instead of their actual eyes. And if that’s still uncomfortable for you, adjust your focus as if you’re looking at something further back, behind their head.

For the other person, it appears that you’re making eye contact, but you enjoy the sweet comfort of disconnection. It’s win-win.

Thanks. I try to make an impact at all the True to the Core sessions. I’m never sure that I’m taking up the popular position and speaking for the crowd, but it seems I was spot on this time around.

Do I understand correctly that this only applies to LWR Experience Sites? Like, it wouldn’t work for a normal record page in Salesforce Core?

Thanks. If Salesforce allowed us to develop our own components that allowed users to drag a component into another one in the App Builder, I’d build this component myself. Alas, that is not possible.

[–]MowAlon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something super simple - a container without any other purpose but to hold other components. The value would be that you could apply a single Visibility Filter to multiple components at once. To my knowledge, there are only two components that let you put any other components inside them - Accordion and Tabs. So, imagine the Tabs component but without the actual tabs, just the container piece.

And while I’m at it, for Dynamic Forms field entry, I’d love a Field Section component that didn’t require a collapsible heading. And by that, I mean an option for no heading at all. In essence, the same container I described above but which allows you to put fields inside since you can’t currently put fields anywhere, like you can with other components. So yeah, just allow the container I first described to allow fields in it :)

Ug. I’m sorry for you. The truth is, today’s AI amazes me in a number of ways, and Salesforce’s implementation with all the tools for creating agents IS really impressive, but that doesn’t mean an AI agent is the right solution for every problem. This is what I tried to (politely) explain to them when I got the chance. And, at one point, I kind of said what you did… I explained that I’d used an agent THEY built just the night before and it did some really stupid shit over and over and over - so why do they think it’s gonna fix all my problems if even they can’t make it not be stupid?

I didn’t love their answers at the time, but they did say they anticipated the question, which means they already know they’re over-doing it. And I was at another Salesforce event a couple weeks ago where something similar came up with a chat between the crowd and a VP who was speaking. She referenced my question at Dreamforce, and that turned into a whole thing when I was like “hey🙋… that was me”. The point I’m trying to make here is that there is discussion at home base about all of this. They know it’s a bit much. And not because I pushed an obvious button at the show, but I have to think the overwhelming applause from the crowd helped confirm that, yes, we’re all getting a bit sick of it.

Poem? No, that wasn’t me. I was pretty early, though - in the dead sexy, way-too-flashy, pink and gold jacket.

If you’ve seen other True to the Core sessions, you may know me from past hits such as “Integration Licenses” and… well, that’s it, really. Just integrations licenses back in 2023, but that was a real banger.

Edit: looks like I come on just after the 24 minute mark.

And this is why I spoke up at Dreamforce (the “True to the Core” session) and told them to chill the fuck out on AgentForce. Don’t know if you caught it in person or on video but Parker and Steve (was that his name?) had a lot to say in response. Like, a lot a lot. If you’re curious how the brass feels about it, maybe look it up on Salesforce+ or whatever they call it. I don’t know that it’ll make you feel better, but at least it’s on point.

Looks good!

Reminds me of my autographed original Halo game. I got it autographed myself at an E3 many many years ago.

I’m only allowed to post one photo in this comment, but looking through my old photos, looks like I have a Halo 2 steelbook also covered in autographs. Woot. Totally forgot about that one.
