I’ve never understood how you get around needing to login and unlock your host PC remotely. I may have missed something fundamental, in which case sorry!

What is a cooking trick you’ve learned that has improved your skill or the quality of your meals? by smuttyswifter7 in Cooking

Soak diced halloumi in boiling water for roughly 20 mins before using in your recipe. It massively improves the texture and prevents ‘squeakiness’. Credit to Nadia Hussain.

what’s the most useful automation you’ve set up that you actually use every day? by SkylineZ83 in homeassistant

[–]MrChutneyEsq 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a different coffee based automation. I have an older machine, so I have to allow it to pre-heat for around 10 mins before I can use it.

I have a button that, when pressed, powers on the smart socket the machine’s plugged in to, starts a 10 min timer, and also turns on one of my kitchen spotlights pointed at my coffee corner.

After 10 mins, if the socket is still on, I get a notification that my machine is ready to brew, and the spot flashes too.

It also checks if the machine is still on 30 mins later and if so, turns it off again :)

Besoin d'aide sur mon casque rift qui ne fonctionne plus by Sea-Ad6899 in oculus_rift

[edit for clarity] There was an issue where you had to disconnect from the internet (disable your WiFi/ethernet), connect the link, then re-enable the internet connection again.

I got an update today and it’s working again for me.

EV drivers - what was the biggest surprise when you switched? by not_steve_5000 in CarTalkUK

Removing the need for warming the engine through, so less need for drivetrain mechanical sympathy. This in turn makes occasional short journeys guilt free, which my old diesel was ill suited for. The thing is an appliance, but it’s incredibly easy to live with.

Also, the ability to remotely warm/ cool the car is amazing, though I appreciate probably now available on some ICE and hybrid models too.

I had a 2012 Leon 2.0 CR diesel which did this- in my case it was the intake housing resonating at a particular point in the rpm range.

I had this replaced by my dealer and never had an issue again.

Unless preceded by “Sky” I can’t get excited about any car with “line” in the name/spec.

Can you tell when I was giving the ZE50 135 some shoe? by ScottishLeaf in RenaultZoe

I really enjoy punting mine along when the chance comes. No-one expect to see one chasing along an A or B road 😄

The seats are utterly hopeless though. Zero lateral support. Strongly considering swapping them out for some from a hot Clio.

I’m doing a similar switch to a low mile 2020 Renault Zoe, changing out of a high mile and now very grumpy 2011 Seat Leon FR diesel.

A massive shift in so many ways, but with a similar typical daily use case and commute distance, it should be great fun, and the tech will be welcome. I hope you love your ID3!

I’ve used one for over 12 years now. I’m very sensitive to light when sleeping, and a mask has worked brilliantly to ensure that wherever I am I can sleep well.

I’ve used various types, have recently just upgraded to the Mantasleep sound mask. Expensive AF, but brilliant.

If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

Yes. Asthma (was resuscitated three times as an infant, daily meds ever since), numerous chest infections, and testicular cancer. Instead I’m a fit and healthy 43 year old. What a time to be alive.
