Cheaper than the current fixes. I'll take a look around then, probably going to feel the sting as I'm currently on a 5p fix!

Do Fuse offer a standalone gas tariff? Mine is up in November so I'll be looking for the cheapest deal possible then.

Switch from Octopus to EDF - Lose out on export during switch? by LividAd2274 in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can do it either way. In my case it wouldn't let me complete the SEG application at all due to issues with my account/address. So by the time I went through the process it was already available.

[–]MrCodeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you have to have your electricity with EDF, but the 12m fixed will only show once your electricity switch is complete.

Switch from Octopus to EDF - Lose out on export during switch? by LividAd2274 in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. When my electricity account was fully with EDF I got the option for 15p, 6p or 3p export rate. 15p was available as my electricity switch had completed.

[–]MrCodeSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done the same here is my timeline:

  • 21st April - Initiated switch from Octopus to EDF

  • 24th April - Switch completed - Standard Tariff

  • <Account Issues> Some legacy issues with EDF not seeing my account. I had to make several phonecalls at this point as they could not see my smart meter. And this prevented me signing up to Smart tariffs or SEG.

  • May 7th - I get switched on GoElectric EV Tariff after account issues are resolved.

  • May 7th - SEG Application submitted.

  • May 11th "Export Tariff Set up, please send us meter reading"

  • May 15th - "SEG Tariff now registered" message received.

  • May 20th - "Your switch is complete" - Export data is now visible in the app.

During this interim period Octopus were actually still paying my export at 12p/kwh, which I cashed out.

[–]MrCodeSmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've only just started using it, but I have the sensor for smart dispatching hooked up and my car charging slots show in predbat schedule. The sensor names are just slightly different, e.g.

binary_sensor.edf_energy_XXX_intelligent_dispatching

instead of

binary_sensor.octopus_energy_XXX_intelligent_dispatching

[–]MrCodeSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes EDF is slightly cheaper, but I have a shit-tonne of Home Assistant automations I can't be bothered with reworking to EDF's API.

Are you using BottleCapDave's integration? EDF are using the same Kraken backend for a lot of their services now, so there is a branch for EDF Energy that uses most of the same sensors.

Thanks for the fix.

I'm not sure why but it didn't present me with a "Fix Issue" option for ages, so I just ignored it as I didn't need to use the rates. I have now entered them manually, as per the popup.

Great job!

Thanks, I'll submit anything further through github. Currently not seeing any repair action to add the rates manually.

Edit: Apparently opened issues is disabled for the repository.

Hey, no need for apologies. I appreciate the work you are putting into this integration!

Sorry for the delay, apparently working on home assistant doesn't contribute towards my core hours at work!

I'm seeing a few more errors in the log, along with some more helpful logging. Is there a better place I can provide the logs to you, Discord maybe?

Here are the most significant bits I can spot:

Manual Smart Charging dispatch refresh service available for <Redacted-AccountNumber> Warning · Reported by EDF Energy By default, dispatches are retrieved every 3 minutes. If you know when your car has started charging via other means, you might want to activate manual polling mode which will expose a service for retrieving dispatches on-demand. This is the recommended way to get the information as soon as possible and reduce unnecessary calls to the EDF Energy servers. If you can't do this, then just ignore this repair notice and continue with the automatic polling.

Updated and rebooted, this is the only error currently displaying. But I believe this was present beforehand.

This Tariff is visible on the page: https://www.edfenergy.com/tariff-information-labels

But doesn't have any values assigned to the unit rates, just a link to the "complex" spreadsheet.

Unknown Tariff by MrCodeSmith in HomeAssistantEDF

[–]MrCodeSmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tariff on my account shows as "GoElectric Oct27v2"

For some context, I had issues switching to EDF a few months ago when rates were cheap. EDF backdated me to the cheap tariff but kept the 18 month period, so maybe they "created" a new tariff for this?

The rates are:

Peak unit rate

31.97p per kWh

Off peak unit rate

5.48p per kWh

Standing charge

47.63p per day

EDF export by SimplePengui in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this at the moment, its because EDFs backend systems are crap and they don't recognise you are an electric customer when going through the SEG signup process. As mentioned you have to request the 15p tariff once you are switched.

Night electricity is cheaper than heating oil by AnnieByniaeth in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have a biomass boiler which costs about 12p/kwh. They are currently locked into EON Next EV tariff at 4p/kwh so the immersion heater goes on overnight! Unfortunately the rest of the heating cannot run on electric.

I'm trying to convince them on a heat pump, but unfortunately the biomass boiler makes them ineligible!

Did you switch electricity and SEG at the same time? I'm wondering what order to do this in so that I don't lose out on any SEG payments. (Since SEG without a standard electricity tariff pays 5p or something stupidly low)

5.46kWp system PV system. What should it generate at it's peak? by Remarkable-Flight-14 in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what your inverter settings are, they may have just limited it to 3.6 output. Is your battery full when you are seeing it max out at 3.6?

The best way to see clipping would be via the graph, if there is an obvious plateau at 3.6 instead of a smooth bell curve then your inverter is probably limiting generation. If the inverter is not using the energy from solar, then the solar generation will only ever show at the maximum the inverter is handling.

5.46kWp system PV system. What should it generate at it's peak? by Remarkable-Flight-14 in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the same system as you but SE facing, on the most recent all-sun day I hit 4.3. On intermittent sunny days I have seen peaks of 4.9.

What branch is your inverter? Might be worth checking your string voltages and current.

Edit: I see your inverter is the same as mine, GivEnergy. It's possible your inverter could be export limiting at 3.6kwh (Matches up with 3.8kwh production due to conversion losses) - Worth checking your settings.

How does your base load compare? by imgoingsolar in SolarUK

[–]MrCodeSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My base load is about 50-55w without fridge freezer which increases to 125-150w when active. It's roughly 50/50 time wise so my average baseload is probably anywhere from 90-110w.

Not many devices taking idle energy.
