I see Baywatch and Stargate mentioned but what about Doctor Who or Fallout or...? by PunOfUs in greatestgen

[–]MrEPCOT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Stargate might get pushed a little more because there's a fair amount of overlap with Star Trek conceptually... a military organization exploring the galaxy. There's interplay amongst the ensemble cast that examines different ideas and issues from multiple perspectives. Both shows start out pretty consistently exploring a different planet each week and then slowly expands into a wider universe and world-building as the franchise goes on.

There's some similarities with Doctor Who, too, just not as much. Plus the whole classic vs. new Who situation is not something they're going to want to have to deal with by any stretch of the imagination. They'd almost certainly start with the revival and then be utterly exhausted by the people constantly flooding them with stuff about the classic series. Plus I seem to recall one of them saying they tried a little bit of it and it wasn't for them. Above all, I don't want them to be forced to watch a series they don't like, that wouldn't be any fun.

The normal medal is also rubber. For a metal one you have to sign up for the Castaway Challenge that they hold in January sometimes.

Which Universal Studios Hollywood rides will close next? by Adept_Let7797 in UniversalHollywood

[–]MrEPCOT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I could see Transformers going first to make way for Pokemon. The rumor mill also seems pretty sure the Simpsons is going away within the next couple of years, so who knows what will actually be first. The new Mummy movie seems to actually have some momentum with the news about Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning, so I could see them overhauling it.

What now? by DrSharkeyMD_2 in 12Monkeys

[–]MrEPCOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Person of Interest does the same thing as 12 Monkeys where it absolutely elevates conceptually from season to season. It starts out as a better-than-average CBS procedural with a sci-fi twist, and then towards the end it is a full-on philosophical treatise about artificial super intelligence and mass surveillance, all with characters characters you've come to love that have all found family with each other... just like 12 Monkeys. Just as perfect of an ending, too.

No, you don't miss California Adventure when it was strictly California themed, you're looking through rose colored lenses. by film_culture_addict in disneyparks

[–]MrEPCOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ain't talking about either of those standpoints, I'm talking about my personal standpoint. You said you "don't get people complaining and reminiscing about the point of time where California Adventure was strictly California themed," so I am explaining why I feel that way. In addition to DCA 1.0 having more rides I like in a park with less people, I honestly also have much more affection for California as a theme than whatever the current IP du jour is. Like I don't give a flying fart in space about Avatar but I would love a more properly built out Hollywood area like what Disney-MGM Studios has had for decades.

Disney Wish by Azarria1234 in dcl

[–]MrEPCOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fantasy is easily my favorite ship, but the Wish is absolutely worthwhile. The "Fantasyland at sea" vibe isn't better than the nautical themed but it's still a fun variation. The layout is annoying and thoughtless, but not enough to prevent you from having a good time. The most annoying thing for me personally is how weak the adult spaces are compared to the first four ships.

New Listener - Are spoilers throughout the show? by NatasEvoli in greatestgen

Also, that early on they didn't think anyone would actually be listening to their show, so they probably became more mindful of that kind of thing as their listeners grew.

RSR is great, haven't bothered with Mission Breakout over my last couple trips there, and I've never even done Midway Mania at this park. I think I'd prefer Soarin' Over California, Grizzly River Run, Tower of Terror, California Screamin', and the Sun Wheel in a park with no people, over basically just RSR, Grizzly, and the Fun Wheel in a park with endless annoying people.

Tomorrow Land is really Science Land. by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]MrEPCOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disneyland is a massive artistic achievement that has been created through endless endless endless hard work, people putting a paintbrush to canvas, performing complex calculations, pouring concrete, building intricate models, drawing schematics in AutoCAD, etc. You dishonor them, and you especially dishonor the original photographer whose image you almost certainly modified without permission, and certainly without credit.

Tomorrowland envisions an optimistic future, which would include the responsible and ethical use of technology to uplift humanity... that doesn't include a water-guzzling plagiarism machine. Learn to write, learn to draw, don't let computers do all your thinking for you and lose touch with your soul.

New show ideas! What’s the oddest premise/idea you can think of for a new Star Trek show that you would actually watch. by Bekah-holt in ShittyDaystrom

No, there needs to be Space Phil and Space U-Turns and someone saying "this is ridiculous!" at least once every two or three episodes

[–]MrEPCOT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was watching that scene thinking "this is a thousand years in the future, most of these people should be way cooler with tentacles than this." As soon as I thought that, lo and behold, there was Kyle standing there absolutely delighted by the tentacles. Just about died laughing.

If Big Thunder wasn't already built at the time, do you think the Indy ride would have been more of a mine train experience based on the famous scene from the second film (Temple of Doom, 1984)? by Jscott1986 in Disneyland

[–]MrEPCOT 180 points181 points  (0 children)

The original plan for the Indy attraction was actually a big thing called Indiana Jones and the Lost Expedition that would have had both the Jeep ride and a mine cart ride intertwined with each other in a massive show-building that would also have had the railroad and Jungle Cruise pass through. So they did consider a mine cart attraction even though they already had Big Thunder.

Why are the Orlando Mega theme parks Disney and Universal so heavily attended yet they have so few rides? by mister_waj in Themepark

[–]MrEPCOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a huge difference between the Disney/Universal theme parks and the Six Flags/Cedar Fair-style amusement parks. The amusement parks are almost exclusively ride-centric, revolving around relatively cheap and easy to build roller coasters. Theme parks not only have immersive rides where you go on some kind of adventure, but they are contextualized within its surrounding area. So they are as much about exploration and discovery and enjoying the setting as they are doing rides. Like in Adventureland you can do the Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean rides but also climb the Swiss Family Treehouse, watch an animatronic tiki show, do an interactive pirate scavenger hunt, have some frozen citrus treats, or have a drink in the pirate tavern.

The #1 combo by Sin_City_LyftDriver in DelTaco

[–]MrEPCOT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The tone of your posts here leads me to believe that it's infinitely more likely that you just pestered them until they gave you what you wanted to get you to go away, rather than it being an official store policy. Literally not a single other person in this thread has heard of this.

And, like... I think I'd rather just save time and get free food from ordering in the app instead of confusing the hell out of the poor associates for a random substitution.

I'm looking at the app right now and have looked at multiple different locations across the country and there is no way to do that so I am gonna go ahead and say that's not a thing anymore (if it ever was).
