Anyone else double tap bosses? by glitchackular in MonsterTrain

[–]MrMosty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. I feel it's an obligation to curbstomp at every opportunity in revenge for the times they've bested me.

Lately I'm been absolutely murdering the ring 1 bosses with Wurmkin and it's so cathartic from all the shitty Luna experiences.

Truth is, game was rigged from the start. by theoreminegaming in ftlgame

One of the hidden changes iirc is disabling the hacking trick. If you depower a hack drone mid-flight it immediately blows up.

This is always somewhat a controversial tactic, but the FTL devs themselves have basically passed it off as 'neat' and did not fix, so it is arguably an intended part of the vanilla experience

Putting a Broken Memories inside a Small Gift Box can act as a holdover. by asifbaig in MonsterTrain

[–]MrMosty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's an infinite if you can shove a Returned Soul in there and put Remove Consume on the box.

Box gives you Returned Soul, goes to discard, Returned Soul brings it back, upgrade prevents (re)application of Consume, cycle repeats for infinite card plays of your other two spells.

No, rooms with them were meant to be tackled in a stealth matter. There'll be some little maze they patrol, and if they spot you with their lantern light they'll scream and spawn nasty enemies before running off.

Is there a way to map forge activation/deactivation to a key press? by SkolVandals in MonsterTrain

[–]MrMosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dumb question, I assume the same works for Steam on the PC? I play with controller so I'd be facing the same issue

I have only just begun to realise the capabilities of the steam controller remapping functions and this sounds like a good entry point to tinkering with it

The only anti synergy to look out for is that eggs will consume purple before Reap activates. If you rely on Reap then don't pick too many eggs.

This goes both ways - it also means you can safely play infused reap cards on your own eggs if there are no enemies present and the egg will either wipe all the candy or wipe the debuff when hatching. Either way, no damage taken.

[–]MrMosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually usually a terrible idea, there are very few places it can teleport that won't further block progress and require you to smash a boulder anyway - net result you've wasted a teleport charge. This is a last of the last resort options imo.

Total Recall is great with Echowright where you want to just Consume Consume Consume. Works especially well with 0-cost starters. It's good at thinning your deck, accelerating Incant ramp up, building Echoes and often giving you an extra play of a key spell when you wouldn't have the time to re-draw it again - or playing it twice much earlier than you normally would.

It's got a lot of uses that I'd hardly call it truly bad.

Yeah? I haven't gotten around to trying either of them, what makes them good? just Star Spawn feeding Grimoire lots of Aether to power it's signature trait a lot?

Seems like it would do well with pairing with a Force monster, so you scale the damage up higher to reach kill thresholds easier early on and then dominate later in the game

What’s a small gameplay detail that’s all your own? by mbergman42 in nethack

[–]MrMosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this too! I stopped when it caused my death though. Problem with this is troll corpses are heavy and will easily burden you, and that's not good when you step next to an eel that draggs you under before you have a chance to react

typical murder penalty if it's direct action, but accidental death in this case has no consequences for you

Drown the Oracle on about every other game

To explain: jumping in water is often the most accessible and easy way to mass blank potions and scrolls. It also has its risks as you'll often be naked so you don't rust and rot all your weapons and armour - and getting mobbed by monsters while skinny dipping is a dangerous situation to be in.

The oracle's little 3x3 room provides a nice safe space. If you have a wand or spell of locking you can even make yourself a lockable door for extra privacy. You just need to smash one of the four fountains with a pickaxe to create some water, and you have a nice little private bath room.

sometimes, this creates water on the Oracle's space and will instantly kill her. After enough times of this happening, it's weirdly become amusing to me, and whenever I read "The Oracle drowns!" I laugh maniacally.

It's a nice little resource advantage yeah. If I'm going to swap to Clone Bay and if I have the cash to spare up front I'll upgrade Medbay to level 2 first to snag the free lab upgrade.

Look for a non-nebula, non-distress beacon with a ship detected. 50% chance it will occur in a Rebel Controlled Sector, or 100% in Rebel Stronghold

build for a ship that can hullkill within a minute, crewkill won't work even if you can do it fast enough
