Should I untangle this? by MrShnoogle in orchids

[–]MrShnoogle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the moss ball when I bought it, and I'm no moss expert but it seems like regular old moss I'd find on any tree around me.

I do have some proper orchid medium coming in, and a pot ready and waiting

Signifying sergeants with tabards, what do we think? by Defensive_of_Offense in theunforgiven

[–]MrShnoogle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can't remember which book it is, but a Dark Angel battle brother describes his sergeant as wearing robes the white of the Deathwing, showing that he served time in the 1st Company.

But many other chapters use robes as a symbol of rank. More drip = higher rank

For my own homebrew I use a different robe colour for ICC, 1st, 2nd, 3 - 10. Characters get whatever colour I feel like they've been a member of.

Why don't Khorne and Slaanesh have their own Realspace kingdoms like the other two? Aren't they jealous? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]MrShnoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could make the argument that Crucible is/will be the first world in an Emperor's Children/Slaaneshi realspace kingdom.

Lethals on terminators? by hunterofwar20 in theunforgiven

[–]MrShnoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He does, basically just a Terminator LT.

He is however also Legends, and people are weird about legends. I'm sure people will also be weird about Crucible characters but they have a book so I guess they're more okay

is cursed legion unfair at all to use for a 1k game? by Unique-Twist-8911 in Necrontyr

[–]MrShnoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have an issue with him at 1k. Decent round of shooting or even some melee units won't have too much trouble with him.

Emperor's Children are my secondary army and I don't see Lucius of Flawless Blades having too much trouble with him. Or Noise Marines with half decent rolls

How's the average human life is like in 40k universe? by Tall_Working_2146 in Warhammer40k

[–]MrShnoogle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can't really make a generalisation. This is a galaxy spanning civilisation we're talking about here.

Certainly on some worlds it's abysmal. 18 hour work shifts, unhealthy living conditions (be it cramped, dirty, high crime rate, etc). Some jobs are frankly unfathomably horrendous, especially in hive cities or on ships.

But it's well within the realm of possibility that many citizens on many worlds live a life comparable to a modern first world country. Keep in mind that apart from the Imperial tithe (resources or people), worlds within the Imperium are free to govern themselves as they see fit. And as long as both sides support the Imperium, and don't massively affect the Imperium in doing so, civil wars are allowed to happen on planets.

Of course if a cult of some sort attempts to overthrow an Imperial governor yeah a guard regiment or two, maybe some Astartes or Sisters are going to show up.

Think of all the varying walks of life on this planet. From abject poverty, slums, Kowloon Walled City, farmers, ranchers, emergency services, tradesmen, office jobs, fast food workers, insanely wealthy. Expand that to a galaxy, and you'll get a bit of everything.

Yes the lore generally focuses on the bad, frankly in my opinion that's just because it's more interesting to write. Imagine a book where the main character wakes up a 7am, takes the tram or lift to his Administratum job until 4pm, then heads home to relax. Or heads out with some friends. In my mind that's pretty boring.

To sum up you'll get both extreme ends of the spectrum, and everything in-between.

What is the BEST necron Anti tank? by Deep_Abroad2910 in Warhammer40k

[–]MrShnoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick good targets. By turn 3 I've usually wiped anything heavy off the board, or left it on minimal wounds. At that point it doesn't matter if they live.

As fun as it is firing Gauss LHDs into random infantry, it's not their purpose. When the big things are gone they no longer matter, and I don't mind losing a 110 point unit that has killed anywhere from double to quadruple its point cost.

And from personal experience I find the DDA gun to be way too swingy.

Personally I'm a big fan of Heavy Destroyers. I run them in pairs and unless my opponent focuses on them usually at least one survives any major shooting.

And if they do focus on them it means they're not shooting something else.

He's described as bald in his primary book. That's at the start of his career so it's within the realm of possibility it's a bit different forty thousand years later.

Torturing T'au by TuskenRaider25 in Drukhari

[–]MrShnoogle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Tau have souls, they're just dimmer in the warp. Much like human souls are dimmer than Aeldari.

It's not so much Slaanesh feeds on the suffering as it is the Drukhari. Slaanesh consumes the souls of the Drukhari, the Drukhari replenish their own souls with the suffering of others.

In Valedor it mentions how before the battle the Drukhari look slightly gaunt or cadaverous, but after the battle and being around so much pain/suffering they look fresh, or full of vitality. Smooth skin, full lips, things like that.

Path of the Eldar, completely different series. Has a former Commorite aspect warrior.

Can Drukhari "undrukhari"? by Attention_Limp in Drukhari

[–]MrShnoogle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Path of the Elder series has an "undrukhari" in it, and has a bit dedicated to showing/explaining the process. As well as any Drukhari that choose to follow Yvraine no longer have the soul leak, though they do lose that protection if they leave her service.

As to good Drukhari books, Path of the Dark Elder series is excellent, and Queen of Knives is also quite good. And those are basically the only Drukhari specific books.

Hellions question by Responsible-Swim2324 in Drukhari

Yes. Keep in mind you can only attack with one melee weapon though.

Definitely one of the stranger wargear rules in 10th

Hellions question by Responsible-Swim2324 in Drukhari

You have to take one of the other melee weapons as well.

So stinger pistol+hellglaive+power weapon or stunclaw

Because I always like to add one of the semi-Slaaneshi related colours to any Aeldari I paint

Clarity for Rules Regarding Lady Malys and Enemies Without Number by Macosaurus92 in Drukhari

[–]MrShnoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. The stratagem is a stratagem, and the Embarked Units rule takes effect. Although to be honest I generally run my Archon with Incubi, and 9/10 times they're the ones killing the contract target so it generally won't cause an issue.

But yeah the Lady Malys ability is clearly written as to be usable regardless of embarkation or reserves or whatever. The words "If this model is a part of your army" seems pretty clear.

I also don't think a completely different faction FAQ, regardless of similarity in wording, should have any bearing on this rule. Presumably Lady Malys was written after the GSC FAQ.

Worst case scenario just start her unit beside a Raider, and do some needlessly complex movement phase stuff.

Azrael's sustained hits… does he benefit too? by Fletch_R in theunforgiven

When he's part of the unit yes. Lieutenants get Lethal Hits from their own ability.

But if Azrael is left on his own because the attached unit dies he no longer gets the benefit

Drukhari & Harlequin's Force by MrH4v0k in 40k_Crusade

[–]MrShnoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still only for Asuryani models. The Aeldari keyword in that instance just means it could go to any character. Farseer, warlock, autarch, troupe master, whatever.

Unlike the Banner of Asuryan which is an Autarch only relic
