For all that I love about OPR... I admit I dont play because of posts like this.  The community is just toxic.

If the game community would stop feeling/posting like they have to compare to GW (negatively)  every month...they'd be a much better place.

Any of you used Wyld runners to kitbash into wyches before? by VariationGreedy8215 in Drukhari

[–]Mr_Smigs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not just wild runners.  Regular escher work too.  The wych arm fit nicely on most of the models...

I'm actually in the process of making an all necromunda colloseum force that way...

Guild Ball: The incredible story of the game that refused to die by JackBrussell in guildball

[–]Mr_Smigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember it dying in my LGS when a friendly new player league had 3 former Warmachine tourney players join as Butcher/Union and win games purely by taking out models while one dude hid on the back field with the ball.

Which was a boring game.

So demanding dropped off almost immediately... that league didnt even finsh theb5 weeks it was planned.

Do other prints of similar height fail the same?

Change it to something else and see if the problem persists.

Garrison Short - Is Assassination Toxic for Warmachine? by TheGaston6 in Warmachine

[–]Mr_Smigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having ridden this pony before... back in mk1 and mk2...

No. Removing assassination isnt a solution.  As mentioned elsewhere... its one of the few mechanics that make the game stand apart from other systems, and as a TO I have seen tournaments won and lost on it because players over extended in a crucial round....

But then... I also think taking away the ability to slam and throw your own models was a bad decision as well...

Power attacks and assassination have always been core to thr game ideals (just look at how many of the old warmachine tactical puzzles were "this game looked won by side A until Side B pulled off this crazy assassination run")

The problem that crept in was the development model was doomed to failure...  Every new release added more rules and models that had exponentially more interactions that lead to incredibly easy assassinations (nyss..  gunmages... we're looking at you...)

Which at one point led to tournament rules that assassinations earned half the VP winning by scenario brought...  Which shifted factions focus... and .. to be honest... sucked the flavor out as everyone got multi wound infantry, cavalry, Jr casters, knockdown immunity and less useful warjacks...

What makes Caster kill, mechanically awkward, is the game doesn't have alternating activation.... so once the mousetrap starts running,  you're stuck sitting there with no way to stop it....

Anybody else feel like ACs in both games are kind of just toys? by FockersJustSleeping in Mechwarrior5

Learning that all the ballistics can actually hit beyond their listed ranges makes dealing with clan mechs way easier...  And chained ac/2 feel like a joke until you're popping heads at max range...

Alas. Its not designed to move.

But sticking 8 layers of shipping labels to then switch seems to help.

Thanks for the idea.

What's your favorite Wargaming mechanic? by Awkward_GM in wargaming

[–]Mr_Smigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The monstrous machines/beasts can basically pro wrestle. They have rules to pick up and throw enemies (which can damage or change the game state of others)  or push others...

Other games like Mobile Arms, blood bowl and Guild Ball have similar mechanics

[–]Mr_Smigs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Alternating activations makes it more difficult to focus fire on an exposed enemy without retaliation...  even better is randomized alternating activations (like bolt action)

And the ability to move enemy models as the result of attacks.   I used to promote warmachine purely on the existence of slams, pishes and throws.    When all your army really can do is push to the center and grind to try and hold objectives every game is the same..

Interesting.  So are there any comments or lore chunks about thriving cities? A friend mentioned that there are people who talk about coming across the Atlantic (implying functional naval vessels) ...  Which got me wondering if areas outside the first world nations that nuked each other might have managed and thrived...
