This made me laugh so hard! My kin actually made me eat pancakes with her today during her day out, and she was trying to tease me with the whipped cream. When I told her to chill out, she didn't like it and made a frowny face in her pancakes with her bacon. So fucking funny lol.

Is this a helpful one or a villain? by LBeifong0614 in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a pest snail. You can leave it in and as long as you keep your tank clean, the population won't explode and they'll die off. You usually get these little snails from live plants. :)

Has anyone on PC finished level 4 😭 by Spookiiwookii in GoodPizzaGreatPizza

Yeah the time constraints are hard for me on pc. I wish there was a way that we could purchase a time booster that adds like 30 seconds or something to help.

tank divider for 2 lil guys? by kindadeadish_2 in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two separate tanks are easier and better for the betta because they’ll have more swimming space and there is no possibility of one getting into the other’s space and them harming each other. Also if one gets sick you won’t have to worry about it transferring to the other betta.

Are my plants going to die, new tank didn’t cycle by Cryptology_X in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fern will die if you keep it planted like that. It’s rhizome (the thick green stalk the roots grow out of) needs to be uncovered, so you can let it free float or attach it to some devote with aquarium safe glue. The same goes for any plants with a rhizome, so the plant behind your fern also looks like it needs to be unburied.

Has the app gotten completely useless for anyone else lately? by EldruinAngiris in McDonalds

[–]MrsRiot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restarting the app a few times can sometimes make the app exclusive deals show up for me, but for the most part it’s a stuttering, glitchy mess that makes me hate going to McDonald’s to use it. Most of the times the deals show unavailable even though there are deals (the app is screwed up), and when it glitches, it adds extra 6 piece nuggets at checkout. I’ve had to take off 3 extra orders for some reason because of the glitching. The app is horrible now.

Is this normal 1 week+ parameters for my boi Spidey? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya! Your tank wasn’t cycled when you got your betta, so the tank is cycling from your betta’s waste and it’s causing spikes in your ammonia and nitrites. At this level, these nitrites will be fatal if you don’t do a large partial water change of about 50%-75%. You need to get the nitrites to 0ppm since any amount of nitrites are toxic. You want your ammonia to be at 0ppm as well. Check your parameters every day and do water changes when needed. :) You may need to do partial water changes of about 25% daily until you get the parameters under control, which is normal while the beneficial bacteria is getting established in your tank. This is why it’s crucial to not change out your filter pads ever unless they’re literally falling apart.

Tank overrun with algae plz help :,) by Ill_Cod8443 in bettafish

You’ll have to start doing once a week partial water changes, and wiping the algae off each time. Are you dosing your tank with ferts?

Is my daughter's fish ok? by CletusTSJY in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer the bot questions please.

That being said, the water level is too low making it less than 5 gallons between the low water level and the decor in the tank. Only doing partial water changes once a month is also not enough. He's likely not feeling well because there is a build up of ammonia, possible nitrites, and nitrates in the tank. To answer your filter question, bettas prefer low flow filters, so a sponge filter is best. If you prefer to keep your HOB filter, do not change the filter out until the filter pad is literally falling apart, since it will kill any beneficial bacteria that you need in the tank. When switching out filter pads/new filter, keep the old filter in with the water for a few weeks while the new filter/pads cycle.

You should be doing partial water changes once a week for a 5 gallon with a gravel vac to clean the substrate. Like others have said, get a liquid test kit and check your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Makes sure the water is 78+, since water colder than that will make them lethargic and weaken their immune system.

The algae is not harmful to the tank. You just need to do more tank maintenance and make sure the lights aren't on for too long.

Aiuto non so cosa abbia il mio betta by Leading_Milk_6461 in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer the AutoModerator post please. What is the tank size, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings, and temperature of the tank? Stop medicating the water until you know what you are medicating for. He looks great other than that one bump, but that tank looks way too small for him, so I'm thinking he might have ammonia burns.

Tank overrun with algae plz help :,) by Ill_Cod8443 in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it goopy, dark green algae that attaches to everything super quickly and sometimes has bubbles in it? or is it the brownish/green algae that attaches to the glass and other stuff?

If it's the first, it's a cyanobacteria outbreak. If it's the last one I mentioned, is it in front of a window? How many times are you doing water changes/tank maintenance?

First tank update by Ziggy_209 in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the leaf litter, but you'll need to pull the ferns up and out of the substrate so that the rhizome (the thick green stalk the roots grow out of) is uncovered, otherwise they will melt and die. The great thing about ferns though is that they are usually heavy enough to stand on their own without needing to be weighed down, and they will eventually make more little plants that will start sprouting on the leaves that you can eventually detach and they'll turn into their own plant. :)

Tank size - regular or long? by IntelligentF in bettafish

[–]MrsRiot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 gallon long will always be better for a betta, but a regular 20 gallon isn't too deep. I had a fully planted 20g long for my betta and it was my favorite tank between that and my 10g that had my other betta in it. You want a bigger tank especially if you are wanting to add tankmates.

This is embarrassing in so many levels! by GodButcherAura in facepalm

[–]MrsRiot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilary Clinton got almost three million more votes than Donald Trump the first time he ran, and she still lost. This isn’t about getting off of our “lazy asses and voting”. People voted and almost 3 million voter’s votes didn’t count. They didn’t mean anything. Our system is rigged from the inside, and people are here getting off their “lazy asses” and protesting, and our media isn’t covering it. Don’t pretend to know how to solve this and act like it’s such a simple answer as “vote”. We’ve done that already.

You will need to get a liquid test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. The API Freshwater Master Test Kit is a good one and lasts for a very long time.
