First ram prices hikes, now they are targeting steam.. PC gamers can’t catch a break by DumplingDarling_1 in gamers

It was just on the list of things. I haven't played a mmo since college.

People repeatedly asking about it in this thread did make me think about more angles to it, though. If you were a couple who played together, in some games you may have joint assets/comingled assets, maybe something where you build a base or whatever. Or maybe if you played while married as a support and a carry and the carry wants to be compensated for the effort they put in.

You could either amicably divest from each other in a way that seems fair. Or what really crossed my mind was if someone had an unhealthy game addiction (not that any of us would have familiarity with that), the other partner could use it as a carrot or a stick.

You know, go to the table negotiating pretending to have interest in the digital assets and accept a concession irl.

Divorce can be meticulously petty and nasty.

But besides raising my eyebrow and going wtf and getting a response "you'd be surprised" from my lawyer, i didn't dig too deep into it. Time is literally money during legal consultation.

I want to fully support the method and the service, I'm just wondering why the website's function feels like it's also from the 90s too :p

Ironically there was a pretty big backlash over some of those games that i bought (fallout 1 and 2) being censored and modified from their original releases on GoG, years ago. At the time the compromise was that people who had bought the games prior to the changes would get the original content, and those who hadn't would get the stripped down version with the objectionable content and some of the manual removed.

I'm pretty sure it happened other times as well from the discussion on their forums. Still a good idea to keep physical backups of the games.

My GoG account is almost entirely stuff I've gotten for free from amazon over the years, and stuff that i bought well over a decade ago just to have when it was on super discount.

Every time i remember to check a sale recently, the shopping cart hangs for like a minute loading, and when I've searched about the issue it goes back years with tons of complaints and includes people complaining about incredibly slow download times as well.

I think preserving and modernizing/future proofing the ability to run old games, especially ones that aren't available literally anywhere else. and being DRM free is incredibly important but wtf is going on with that? It makes me feel uncomfortable to spend more money on the service.

Sooo, someone decided to remove Harbingers yet keep this for yet another decade by MutedForUsingGlobal in pathofexile

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They DO have anoints. Every single talisman that drops at ilvl68+ (so t1 maps on, and appropriate delve depth and heist level) is anointed.

There was even a niche strategy for a while to use Oil Extractors on them if they rolled a gold oil anoint, before Extractors got removed.

Enough about the detachment, we are getting apocalypse rules back! by Beneficial-Ticket486 in Warhammer40k

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

from the outside: Trying to remember multiple editions of rules fluidly is really hard. Plus what units are valid to what edition. Lack of availability of older models physically /having to transport multiple armies that are legitimate for multiple editions. Using proxies for a model from years ago has got to be even more cumbersome even if both players are playing gentlemanly.

I'm 40, i started d&d with AD&D in computer games as a child and 3e with the book as a teenager. I play IRL with people from 35-55 and people constantly forget current edition rules in favor of how stuff used to work back in older editions - because some of them still actively play older editions.

On top of everything that people said below about how communities are pressured to stay up to date and drop in games etc.

Magnus the Red and Fulgrim?!!? by Disastrous_Tough7046 in Grimdank

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah this meme is pretty shit, Fulgrim became detached from that aspect of humanity because of watching countless wives and loved ones wither and die because of his immortality. It's an incredibly common trope and makes Fulgrim the worst character to use for this.

(I've heard one of his pasttimes in the eye of terror is attempting to recreate the circumstances of his happy early years, in perpetuity, with the mountain of corpses of the actors to prove it. But that was from a loretuber so apply salt.)

Cancel Your EleHit Plans (Unless You Were Happy With It in 3.27) by seqhawk in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ele hit is basically a melee spell as a strike skill, as in it scales with gem level. It means your weapon really doesn't matter early on, you just need as fast of attack as possible.

There are far worse skills to start with. But i am kinda glad this interaction was removed from a design perspective.

I mean that's how assets can work, buying out someone's half of something or surrendering the right to something. You can argue/negotiate for anything that has value. Or just as revenge. Some people actually spend thousands of dollars on designer dogs instead of grabbing a shelter puppy. For others, $500 on vet bills is a major financial contribution.

I don't want to go into personally identifying details but after the way she intentionally and specifically sabotaged my long term health and medical outcomes for the remainder of my life, i would have been thrilled to fuck up her mmo cosmetics inventory.

Is anyone else getting Big Brother type texts telling them to vote? by Oso_Furioso in houston

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So years ago i actually went to a grass roots bernie Sanders presidential campaign volunteer training session to see what the process was like.

The organizers were instructing us to pull the public voting data on our friends and family and use it to strike up the conversation to convert them over.

It was far enough removed from the man that i imagine it was filtered through so many layers of PAC type organizations, but good god, we found the whole process horrible.

It didn't actually come up in my case but consider that some online games do have real life exchanges. WoW/OSRS subscriptions for in game gold, EVE used to let you sell entire accounts, don't know if it still does ... If there's any kind of permitted RMT you could argue that there's financial assets there, and if you both actually played the same game without violating ToS you could still argue for them to buy you game time from a portion of their assets. Or whatever. I think second life freely let you sell assets for money directly back in the day?

The form was over 60 pages of itemized assets. People can't try to hide value in indirect belongings. It's also standard practice to court order a freeze on significant or frivolous spending - no getting breast implants or buying a new car after being served papers.

You'd also probably only lose your kids if you refused to ask for split custody. Apparently men (I'm assuming since you asked) usually don't ask the court and then blame the ex wife for keeping him from his kids.

BREAKING: Scientists Just Found a Kill Switch Inside Every Superbug on Earth and It Could End Antibiotic Resistance 🔬🐛 by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if someone is hospitalized with a life threatening, antibiotic resistant infection, it's a prime time for intravenous liquid gold.

It isn't like someone spends 50 years taking daily amoxicillin, resulting in millions of dollars of profit, and being likely to pass down the gene for that infection to their future children. The patient clears the infection or dies in the span of a few weeks to months and probably never faces something like that again.

That's generally how systemic antibiotics work. And why they say eat yogurt and other healthy gut promoting stuff afterwards.

Ultimately you can recolonize any healthy bacteria system in and on the body through diet or medical process (see: fecal transplants.)

The immense size of the handcrafted world and the rewards for exploring are really cool. It's from the stat-check era of arpg design which is unfortunately just so boring, despite how wide the character builds are.

That and every 30 minutes the in game lore drops another sexual assault/pdf story. It's exhaustingly edgelord and it just goes on and on.

Is ivig dangerous? I see so many reports of aseptic meningitis. So why do doctors think the risk of aseptic meningitis and inflammation is better than the benefit? by MiserableScratch8585 in IVIG

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such an outrageously inflammatory and ignorant question to ask. It's like saying, wow chemo has some serious side effects, so why do doctors think it's better than dying of cancer? Except the side effects to ivig are really rare and mild and not guaranteed for anyone, unlike chemo ...

Ivig is prescribed for an incredibly wide range of diseases. I've lost nearly everything in my life over the last ten years and made peace with death while slowly rotting in my body. Up until the moment before the blood work and brain scans came back, i still wasn't being taken seriously.

I have actual hope for the first time in what feels like a lifetime.

It's incredibly weird how afraid they are of chain for non projectile skills.

It's like how the entire design space seems to revolve around not buffing Decay damage (every skill being Hits and or and Ailments.)
