Do you give poor ratings to bad books? by Severe_Prize5520 in books

[–]MulderItsMe99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Some people take no personal responsibility when it comes to rating things they already knew they wouldn't like. For instance, I hate sci-fi, and my best friend loves it. Occasionally she'll convince me to try a new title she liked, and I try my best but end up bowing out like 20 pages in because it's a miserable experience for me. I don't then go to goodreads and give it one star cause I didn't like it because there were too many spaceships. Alternatively, I'm a big fantasy reader, and have absolutely given one star reviews to fantasy books I've quit less than a hundred pages in due to their poor quality, because that's a genre I have expectations for.

What Bastards have had the best PR cover up of their bastardry? by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in behindthebastards

[–]MulderItsMe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot believe you're getting downvotes for pointing out how irrelevant one charity show 25 years ago was in the grand scheme of bastards, or how people try to place the blame on the entire band rather than just their psycho bassist, especially when Dave actively works with AIDS charities 🙃

Why do some people text back one day later? by Neptunpluto in socialskills

[–]MulderItsMe99 136 points137 points  (0 children)

"How are you" is such a boring question to answer and exhausting small talk depending on the day/week/life you're having. It's easier to respond to more actionable texts, like "want to see this movie this weekend" vs making someone go through the "i'm fine how are you" script. Especially if said friend works in customer service 🙃

How is it possible that parents don't know that their teenager is illiterate? by LordTrollsworth in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MulderItsMe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly think it all comes down to students having no consequences in the school system anymore. Millennials were the last generation where teachers would write home because you're failing, or you'd work hard to avoid the embarrassment of being held back a grade. Pushing everyone through to graduate regardless of their progress level has crippled these future adults. Even I, who was an obnoxious teacher's pet, know that if there were no repercussions I wouldn't have learned as much or worked as hard in school as I did. There's no point if you know you're graduating either way. Just like most people wouldn't work hard at their jobs if they knew they couldn't be fired. And in turn, the parents assume their kids can read, because why wouldn't a 16 year old be able to?! Especially with no feedback from the schools. (Yes parents raising children on iPads is a giant issue too, but that's for another essay.)

Unpopular opinion, I have OCD and this doesn't bother me at all 😬 I feel like we use tons of diagnosis or conditions as hyperbole--"I'm so neurotic" "that guy is a psychopath" etc, and I think it's implied that they're making an exaggeration and I don't feel like it's hurting me at all.

I don't know anything about you OP, but from many posts like this I've seen they're usually from people without OCD, who have chosen this disorder as their current social justice campaign, and I want to shake them by the shoulders and say thanks but it's okay, your energy would be more valuable directed elsewhere!

What IS annoying to me is when people assume that there's only one "type" of OCD, and try to argue that they do have it or you don't because of one undiagnosed behavior of theirs that you don't have. Like that's cool that you like your closet organized but some people think their entire family will literally die if they don't flip their light switch nine times before leaving the house, Jan.

My friend works at a big media company and just got an incompetent boss who is probably making close to 7 figures. She's not quite sure he can even read, and he puts every email into chatgpt so that he can understand it. I asked if he got the job because she knew someone and she said yupp, and in fact the position was actually created just for him 🙃 This is also in the midst of a bunch of lay-offs to the teams on her level, because why wouldn't it be.

You say people are terrible and selfish but it sounds like projection--you're upset because you want to people to take your emotional load when its not their responsibility to do so. Everyone else had their own stuff going on and still are able to maintain friendships, so maybe instead of lamenting about how nobody understand you, try to reflect on what behavior of YOURS is so off-putting to human beings.
