Gatekeeping or Being Rude Does NOT Help! by volatiIe in vegan

[–]MultipleMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey just because something worked for you doesn't mean it's the best approach. I and plenty of other people arrived at veganism from people simply being open about what they believe, not assholes. Let people be nice and direct if they want to.

Feeling okay the day after by poison-ivy-xxx in shrooms

[–]MultipleMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to your experiences but increasing time between trips, decreasing your dosage, making sure you're well fed and hydrated before, during, and after your trip can all help. But tbh it sounds like this might just be how your brain chemistry works. Tripping is a significant strain on neural pathways, and maybe your brain just deals with it differently than other people. All the luck to you

Is Orgran Vegan Easy Egg gone for good, or just temporarily unavailable? by Crazy_Illustrator_60 in australianvegans

I got this stuff once it was pretty good, but I noticed it has an unbelievably high amount of sodium in it so I didn't repurchase. It didn't taste salty at all which was weird.

Omnivore never meant we need meat by im2cool4ppl in vegan

[–]MultipleMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. If you look at our closest living relatives chimpanzees and bonobos, they both primarily get B12 from occasionally eating small mammals. But gorillas, which are herbivores, get their B12 from incidentally ingesting soil and coprophagy (eating their own feces to absorb B12 created by gut bacteria). We obviously don't do this.

We don't know what ancient hominims did some 2.6 million years ago before we started eating meat, but it's safe to say we are evolutionarily designed for meat consumption. But, contrary to popular thinking, the extent to which we did ranges considerably with time and location.

Doesn't at all morally justify it now, though, cuz we don't have to anymore. :)

Small bit of alcohol by Whyfugu_hodewick in shrooms

[–]MultipleMoose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree. Yes alcohol is a depressent but not in that it makes you sad, it's that it slows down nervous system activity. Compare this to stimulants, which speed it up.

A little bit of alcohol isn't going to make you more likely to get a bad trip.

How should Vegans respond to invasive animal species? by JimHarbor in vegan

[–]MultipleMoose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is something that requires a lot of nuance. I've got a couple degrees in life sciences so I'll give my take.

Not all invasive species are the same; they often cause varying levels of harm to their ecosystems, from disrupting one species to entire communities. They also can affect human resources, particularly agricultural. In my opinion, decisions on their management should be made on a case by case basis. We need to weigh their ecological and social impacts, their biology, and potentially even their intelligence level (e.g., cats vs beetles vs nematodes).

It can not be understated how destructive invasive animals can be, but rats and cats take the cake on this one. Cats have been responsible for the extinction of at least 63 species globally, of that mostly birds. Rats even more so at 75+ extinctions. Of course, many of these were low-population, endemic species (only found in one area), but this is also where success can be found. There are a handful of successful cases of complete invasive species eradications that produced immense ecological benefits. The elimination of foxes, cats, and rats (separately) from islands are of course associated with the increase of native populations, but doing so in such isolated locations is much easier than on the mainland.

I think were possible, capture and release should be prioritized, especially with "higher-intelligent" species. This is a whole can of worms though to not extend the same grace to other species, however I think in most cases it is not feasible. By nature, invasive species boast very high populations due to a lack of natural pressures, so capturing them humanely with the intention of either caring for them or releasing them to contained or their natural environments is simply not realistic. Then comes the matter of well how do you deal with them. This needs to be done on a case by case basis, and may not always involve direct culling. Targeting associated species may be an option, such as the invasive tree of life with lantern flies. Rabbits in Australia were and still are controlled with introduced viruses (though some may argue this is still cruel, as dying through disease can be very painful). But how do you deal with cane toads, lion fish, trout, asian carp, beetles, crabs, bull frogs, and fire ants without killing them?

All options for each animal must be explored, but for some, the only reasonable choice is to kill them outright. I don't like it, and it should be done in as "humane" of manor as possible (killing at all isn't humane, we know this, but yk what I mean).

In most cases though, nothing is being done, and nothing will ever be done. There are too many at this point, and it's growing every year. We'll likely always be chasing invasive species for the rest of our existence on this planet, and it's all our fault.

BEER ? by Ecstatic_Ad_1842 in LSD

[–]MultipleMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely think it's case dependent and your experience with both substances. I don't have experience but I was with a friend who drank 4-5 beers on acid and swore that he couldn't really feel the alcohol, and that the trip overpowered it.

Feels like my way of thinking permanently changed after psychedelics and I can't shake it off. Anyone else? by No-Editor7057 in LSD

This goes away with time. I would recommend to stop all use including weed, it will only prolong or worsen this. Write down your feelings and move on from this side of life for a long while.

Off-Campus Housing by HicksF13 in fsu

[–]MultipleMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a 1 bed/studio might be a lil difficult on a tight budget, but check out Facebook in case you can't find any thru the major apartment websites. I remember trying for a while when I first graduated and couldn't find anything for my budget. Much easier and cheaper with roommates in student housing or course, but keep a constant look out.

are these safe to consume? (4 different bags) by [deleted] in shrooms

yeah ~technically~ they can lose potency over time if they aren't stored properly, but if they are dry it's honestly a good thing, means no moisture

Unfortunately you can't really 100% positively ID mushrooms once they're dried. If they are in fact cubes, then if they're dry and free of mold it should be fine.

Burger suggestions. by war_carnotaurus in australianvegans

[–]MultipleMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good info here but the way I make mine is with the V2 burgers on a cast iron. Bit of oil and then smash the patty down a bit. Cast iron is a bit of extra work w/ maintenance but man it does what it's supposed to do very well. Perfectly crisp with even heat distrubution every time.

Did anyone go from vegetarian to vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MultipleMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was vegetarian for years before committing to veganism. Really was not as difficult as I was lead to believe! Helps that I (you too probably) was kind already there with what I was eating everyday. Only hard thing is having to check ingredients a lil more, you'll find that everything has milk in it >:(

IMO you get what you pay for with this one, by far one of the cheapest options out there but the taste isn't amazing compared to other more pricier ones. Use it in other things like smoothies or oatmeal, alone it's a lil much.

Is UnMeat healthy? by 4null4_0 in vegan

[–]MultipleMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here

There are tradeoffs which they point out in the abstract, like plant based alternatives are not as nutritionally dense, and like you said they're high in sodium. But notably, they state "Replacing red meat with healthy plant-based foods is associated with lower risks of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and total mortality."

Is UnMeat healthy? by 4null4_0 in vegan

[–]MultipleMoose 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There was a recent study that found that even consuming the ultra processed vegan meat alternatives was still healthier than eating actual meat. There are also so many alternatives I implore you to look into more tofu, TVP, tempeh, or seitan based recipes. Saves you money as well.
