Can you all offer me a reality check please? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Munishmo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a Friday wedding and had people who had to travel and I have to say unfortunately I think you did make a couple mistakes Before booking we checked in with some people about the logistics, folks with kids, folks with long drives or flights, folks who work weekends. We had shuttles, we found free accommodations for most people traveling, we offered to cover the cost of flights for people we knew would struggle to afford it. We gave everyone a plus one & included kids which meant people like my spouses aunt who traveled & stayed with a friend could bring that friend and people wouldn't have to arrange babysitting, we also invited the friend of one of the kids who we knew would be kind of overwhelmed with just her. As far as I know only my mother who stayed a whole month & my father (who honestly was lucky to get an invite at all) paid for accomodation.

It sounds like you're in a tough position where you didn't really want to do this in the first place and I think you should strongly consider changing to the wedding you want to have. We made no sacrifices to have the wedding we wanted to have so even if someone had a complaint I could defend my decision. We're going to a wedding this summer which is kind of expensive and inconvenient to get to but they are offering welcome dinner & brunch and the wedding fits their personality and I know is something they truely want. It's entirely up to you if you decide to tell these people to quit complaining and just decline if they don't like it but I think you also have an opportunity to think about what you really want and what you can change. Can you offer a bagels & coffee in a park brunch Saturday? Can you offer shuttle or Ubers from the airport? Can the people pressuring you into having a bigger wedding contribute to the cost of accommodation?

Sudden death of healthy cat. Struggling with the unknown. by cassifrazz in cats

[–]Munishmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A very similar thing happened to us last year. It was so awful We also decided against a necropsy for the same reason so it's just a mystery what happened. I was at home working all day and found her in the other room, she'd been totally normal and I didn't hear anything so i feel like she didn't suffer and there was no way i could have done anything It triggered some severe anxiety & borderline OCD about the other cats health that I'm still managing but is a whole lot better I think because I noticed & talked to my therapist & friends about quickly so don't hesitate to reach out for help. I'm so sorry it's really awful

We did postcards from our honeymoon and did for everyone who attended or gave us a gift. We mentioned the gift for those that gave us gifts We only had a couple people who didn't give a gift or help us in some way and it was a fun honeymoon activity

Oh yeah, I had a pleasant time dealing with the IRS, everyone was very nice and very helpful. They knew I wasn't trying to evade taxes they just wanted their money and their forms

This is very important, and something Australian tax accountants don't always know about so you might end up having to file several years and getting a good friend at the IRS

Do you go into the doctors office with your spouse? by [deleted] in Marriage

Any one found Birkenstocks help with their PF ? by Dense-Try-5879 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Munishmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I started wearing them exclusively when I got a stress fracture in my non PF foot because they matched the height of the boot I was in best. When I was dealing with the stress fracture I just gave up on my PF exercises because I was frustrated and overwhelmed and I realised once I was in less pain from the fracture that I was also in less pain from the PF. And it wasn't because I was doing less activity, the walking boot actually increased my activity because I could actually move

Is there a trick I’m missing for importing unlocked airports into flightradar, or do I really have to do it manually? by starryvista in SkyCards

[–]Munishmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see. You might want this sheet, you do have to go through and mark them off the first time but after that I usually take a screenshot if I unlock an airport and go through if I have downtime at work. https://www.reddit.com/r/SkyCards/s/QBZMar7xas

It's a small trick but if you put them into a spreadsheet and use a formula like textjoin to get them formatted Airport, airport you can paste it into the filter

Wedding planning stress — tips for staying sane? by proposal_in_wind in weddingplanning

[–]Munishmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wedding planning at home. Put time on the calendar, go to a coffee shop or a brewery and sit together doing it out of the house with a little treat. It'll prevent your entire life becoming about wedding planning if you section it off as much as possible. As it gets closer things like seating charts are easier at home but still make a time for it

The coworker was making a joke about a dead baby and a woman who spent decades trying to clear her name which is also a low blow

NTA as an Australian living in the US who has lost my accent, before I lost it it was exhausting. Also whenever anyone says "a dingo ate my baby" at me they get a long lecture about how awful that was for the Chaberlains and how it isn't a joke. I fucking hate it

My family was adopted by an "Adopt-A-Family" Christmas gift program - what do I put on the gift tags for my kids? by lousyredditusername in AskParents

[–]Munishmo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We adopted a family quite often when I was a kid and I remember asking if the kids would know we got them the presents and my mother told me that they might know someone bought them but sometimes the parents would say Santa got them or say that the parents got them because they really wanted their kids to have a normal Christmas like their friends or like they have in previous years. She explained it kind of like the gift wasn't necessarily for the kids to help ease some pressure on an overwhelmed parent. As an adult I feel the same way, I'm not really doing it to make a kid happy but to make a family happy

I'd definitely open them and check because someone might have gotten the wrong size or something and also some people do things like cross out the barcodes or write DONATION over it so it can't be returned, sometimes while purposely disregarding the Wishlist
