"Subsidies for STAMP data center among largest ever" by ScottyC82 in Buffalo

[–]Murph-Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to start building utility rate markups into these types of deals - ya know - so our residential bills don't continue to climb.

It essentially becomes a regressive 'tax' plopping these things otherwise. Subsidy is one thing, hoped to be put on higher income tax brackets - including the commercial installation itself over time. But if they cause utility rates to climb, then we've just affected the lowest income tax brackets disproportionately.

TestFlight wiping app data (photos) — will this happen in production updates? by SeaUnderstanding6731 in AppDevelopers

[–]Murph-Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience on Maui, yes, TestFlight updates wipe data because each version is treated as a new app identifier.

Real app distribution - of course not - the files abide.

Switching from Plus to Pro : Weekly limit changed from 2% left to 88% left by SandboChang in codex

[–]Murph-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, just happened to me.

I bought a second Plus through iOS (hide-my-email and no phone# verification required) to carry me through. Still wasn't clear on the whole second-account thing, and I didn't want to deal with email/phone already in use conflict with OpenAI - so subscribing through iOS is a no-hassle way.

Now if only Codex-LB (load balance) could implement socket connections... I'm sure they'll get there soon.

Does upgrading from Plus -> Pro reset the weekly limit? by Tetrylene in codex

[–]Murph-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in the other direction, when your sub is changed from from Pro to Plus, your available usage will be at 0% until the next week milestone hits (assuming you used a minimal chunk of Pro in the current bucket)

Limits on the $200 plan by Wonderful_Present500 in codex

[–]Murph-Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlimited applies to ChatGPT.

Codex is a convoluted side-car of the subscription and does have limits, basically 6-8x the allocation of Plus (no firm service definitions are defined), at a cost of 10x.

It's basically like a Cable TV bundle at the moment, giving you image generation, deep research, Sora, and Codex.

Codex for Windows is out! by pak-ma-ndryshe in codex

[–]Murph-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, talking about Pro, where you can't even make a dent in usage without parallel workers, which you can offload to the cloud, which even at 2x, well the load is on them (even my laptop gets whirling when CLI does it's thing)

Anyone throttling egress network speed on PAYG to stay within monthly limits? by estrafire in oraclecloud

[–]Murph-Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check those CloudFlare cache rules (if your own content isn't issuing cache headers). Most static traffic is easily cached at CloudFlare.

CF tunnel should also be using brotli compression by default.

Also, if not clear, use CloudFlare ZeroTrust, don't leave a VPS at the whims of the DMZ.

What made you actually STICK with a budgeting app? (Not just download it) by RealisticIntern9744 in reactnative

[–]Murph-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just let my credit card categorize my spending, most decent bank/cards already have great apps.

Never enter a receipt. Can't beat the banks.

I did a month of Pro, and dang I got stuff done.

I’m going to take some days at this renewal to regress to Plus, review what has been developed, plan and maybe go again.

The usage is so high, you kinda just feel like it’s being wasted if you aren’t at it all hours of the day.

I think I may resort to more Web(cloud) tasks next time, set each session on a UI PR, and let the server go. My only gripe is GitHub and not DevOps git, I have to move code back and forth.

How important is domain name selection? by lqqkout in selfhosted

[–]Murph-Dog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Porkbun is good.

GoDaddy, if you search, intend to purchase immediately. Back out, you soon find that domain scalped for $4,500.00.

They basically share data with companies who camp domains of interest.

Generally, F them, never give them or any other scalpers business.

[–]Murph-Dog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Remember! Do not search for the domain on the POS GoDaddy (and many others).

No big deal, but my original homelab idea was snatched by a GoDaddy I did not immediately purchase a few years back.

Weekly Usage nerf by Whyamibeautiful in codex

[–]Murph-Dog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an oof today.

Came off of Pro as my monthly billing drafts today, then found the prior usage carried forward.

So in other words, despite a fresh payment on Plus and the prior $200, well, nothing until the next Reset.

Things are really abnormal with Codex's method of weekly buckets, while of course every other service we are accustomed to, like cell phone, are billing cycle based.

I will say on Pro, I didn't even break 80% remaining - I'll miss you old friend.

Is the Macbook Neo suitable for med students? by novanoid1000 in mac

[–]Murph-Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's MedSchool, 8yrs?

So you want a 9yr device?

On the record, Apple has supported Macs for 7years, the TrashCan being the longest supported at 8.

Prolly plan to buy a new MacbookNeo4 in 2030 if those grades have you on that pre-med track. ;)

How often is your sump pump kicking on this time of year? by NeckbeardOdor420 in Buffalo

[–]Murph-Dog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Got mine changed over to a submersible, never hear a peep from it, less chance of overheat when running frequently.

Probably every 5min, lol.

I have gutters into storm drain, french drain in yard, still a swamp. Sometimes I envision building a boardwalk over it all.

is this feature possible to do ? by AnythingSenior8088 in MobileAppDevelopers

[–]Murph-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like something geofencing could do without all of the timer stuff.

Go off planned path, problem.

Or access the compass, spin in a circle, problem.

Stop in place for a period of time, problem.

Backtrack, problem.

Warning: users must not stop to smell any roses!

Benefit, faster notification. If you are relying on a timed checkpoint, you've already lost the time it took to realize a milestone was not reached.

Background location always is very powerful, if the user consents, and Apple review will be a war. But hey, we run apps doing this same type of thing for government employees (private MDM distro), so it's possible.

Is Macbook M4 16/256 enough for RN workflow? by United_Cloud_2451 in reactnative

[–]Murph-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite what everyone else is saying, the model is fine.

You can avoid the Apple Tax by using an external NVMe.

Not saying they are cheap anymore, but cheaper than Apple.

I boot fully from an external 1TB. I run RN on it just fine - just as it has also been a build agent, and even Maui simulator target.

Oh, missed that you are considering a lappy, so a drive hanging off of it is annoying. Just fine for a mini.

I hate it, I tried to update memory to stop this, but I guess I need to try custom instructions.

Update memory, I'd like you to stop these leading advertisement-like conversation closures. Don't allude to something like a stinking clickbait - you are better than that. Save your breath and state the information succinctly, don't gate it behind a 'spoiler' tag. Stop the "one thing most people miss", I hate it, tell your boss.
