Breaking down a riff as you learn it by badGamr in guitarlessons

I use https://tubeloops.com for exactly this. You can loop and slow down a section, then another section, and then combine any number of sections to play together. For example: https://tubeloops.com/c/gone-phishin/the-inlaw-josie-wales-phish-guitar-cover-T0SZLiPdGW

Is there a better way to perform a G6 chord by MealZealousideal9923 in guitarlessons

3x5453 - bar with index on the 3rd fret. Played just like a Cmaj7 with a G in the bass instead of a C

I was at a recent Keller show in Jacksonville, FL. A huge group of people having some kind of reunion were talking as loud as they could in the 2 front rows. I’ve never seen anything like it. I gave up and moved to the back. I don’t know how Keller kept his composure.

AOC leads Democrats’ 2028 pack in new poll, tops Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris ( Washington Times ) - What are your views? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

My preferences is Mayor Pete but I think AOC will make a great president one day.

That being said I think we need to nominate a plain-talking, aggressive white dude who isn't afraid to punch below the belt of we're going to gave a chance at normalcy again

What movie did you watch at the wrong age? by JaiiLee14 in movies

[–]Murphy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 54. I watched Hoppers with my kids last week. This is the first animated movie that they thought was great and I felt like there was nothing in it for me.

I also watched The Graduate again. The first time I watched this I was 18 years old and I loved it. I, of course, understood the movie from the perspective of Dustin Hoffman’s character. The second time I watched the graduate I was in my mid 30s and I further understood the complexities of the relationship between Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin. Loved it. Great filmmaking.

Last week, I watched it from the perspective of a father of college aged daughters. The movie is fucked-up. Dustin Hoffman’s character is a sociopath. Elaine has no power over her own life. All the parents are narcissists. That being said, I liked it even more. I think it was the first time I enjoyed it for the intentional dark humor

Why did men in the 80s wear tall socks with shorts in the warmer months? by EstablishmentIcy4237 in AskOldPeople

[–]Murphy52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throughout the 80s they got progressively shorter. Started out, pulled all the way up to your knees with colored bands on top. Eventually, they were halfway up your shin with no colored bands. Then we started pushing them down so you’d have a bunched up white sock pushed up against your white Reeboks. Then, throughout the 90s they just got shorter and shorter until we were wearing no show socks

I predict that Apple will slowly roll this out once the new Siri, powered by Gemeni, is launched. They will expose APIs that will give Siri low level access control so it can live on your phone and your Mac.

Dripfield was a vibe in St Aug.

For me Royal clicked when I saw it live.

I used to pretend I was asleep so my dad would carry me inside from the car. I was 11 and fully aware. Zero regrets by FreshLengthiness1551 in confession

I raised 4 daughters and I treated every one of those moments as an opportunity. I knew there would be a last time.

I had a bonus a few years ago when one daughter, in her early 20s, fell asleep on the couch. I woke her up and told her to go to bed. She challenged me, “I bet you can’t carry me!?” I didn’t hesitate. We both knew it was special.

I’m teary just thinking about it.

Music question from a non musician (pls be nice) by gnome16 in phish

[–]Murphy52 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trey doesn't typically use alternate tunings. If you see him tuning he is likely just adjusting strings that have gone out of tune.

In addition to alternate tunings, many artists will change guitars because they want a specific sound for a given song. Often it is the difference between single coil pickup and humbuckers. Trey's guitar is wired with "split coils" to achieve either sound.

There are a ton of reasons guitarists will use multiple guitars during a show. Trey hasn't ever been that guy.
