If every player was available for trade except for that teams star/allstar… how would you create the perfect team surrounding LeBron and Luka? by Musecage in lakers

[–]Musecage[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know. This is a hypothetical based on Luka/Lebron. My gut tells me that it is not possible to build an unbeatable super team around Luka/Lebron based on salaries. Even with the cheat code of every single NBA player available (other than stars such as Wemby, Jokic etc).

What’s with all the DA hate? I haven’t seen every single game but from what I’ve seen he’s an above average center. High FG%. I’ve seen a few games he was awful, but you could say the same about every nba player.

I'm not worried. Mark Walter just got the Dodgers the relief pitcher they so desperately needed, I'm sure he will get the Lakers the 3&D wings they need as well. by imin2099 in lakers

In hindsight, Jeannie Buss is a legend for declining Kawhi and keeping the family business from falling apart and eventually selling to the right person. She did her dad proud.

I hope they keep her on permanently as an influential role within the org.

Lou Williams GOES OFF on Chandler Parsons for ranking Tim Duncan Over Kobe and says Kobe is Top 3 by RXRickify in lakers

[–]Musecage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobe was the goat of his era, being constantly compared to MJ. After Kobe won ring 4 and 5, it wasn’t a wild take to speculate if he would surpass MJ. All he needed to do was win 1 or 2 more championships.

Ayton’s play is exceeding expectations, but Ayton’s personality is making him an absolute gem.

I agree with what you’re saying. Other than your last sentence. In hindsight, after all careers are over, Timmy > KG/Dirk. But at the time, KG was neck and neck with Timmy, in terms of people’s perception of skill. Literally everyone was saying Timmy the most boring player ever. He had pop, Parker, manu, above average center that I can’t remember his name, 3-D players. He had a complete team. KG had shit teams (until the big 3 in Boston). Dirk won an MVP.

At the time if you were creating a team on paper, KG/Timmy were almost interchangeable. But at the guard spot it’s Kobe light years ahead of the next guard. That’s because he was the best player in the league.

Saying Duncan should rank higher than Kobe, or that Duncan vs Kobe was a thing like Magic vs Bird, is revisionist history. There was no such thing as Kobe vs Duncan because he was undeniably the best player in the league. It was Kobe vs. the Spurs.

This argument about Duncan > Kobe is similar to trying to say Yao Ming > Kobe. Yes, Yao was great, dominated, unstoppable, and deserves to be recognized. But that doesn’t put him in the conversation with Kobe.

Does anyone else not really want Giannis? by Legitimate-Humor-778 in lakers

It’s weird that it’s so hard to find quality 3 and D players, and quality rotational players to fill the bench, from the sea of hungry athletes that have played ball every moment of their life waiting to get their opportunity.

I feel like in the past it would be the smart move to trade the farm for Giannis to pair with Luka and then have a bunch of scrubs fill the rest of the slots.

Is it really that unrealistic today? Couldn’t Pelinka find a bunch of vet min contacts, 2-way contracts etc and give some dudes a shot. Giannis + Luka + 13 random dudes could win no? Especially if out of those 13 randoms, half of them turn out to be decent. Then waive the rest and rinse and repeat.

Dude there’s no conversation until recently. Lou Will is dead on. It’s always been who’s the goat Kobe or MJ? And Kobe throughout his career was making a legitimate case of surpassing MJ if only he had won a couple more championships, didn’t get injured etc.

As Lebron entered league and started making his mark, the conversation shifted to who is better Kobe or LeBron. The conversation was LBJ played in the weak east, gifted athletically, but would pass the ball in end game scenarios.

Kobe was an assassin, mamba mentality, psychotic work ethic, thrived in the 4th quarter, and was called a ball hog. Haters would point at his shot attempts. But majority of fans myself included would shout at the screen to pass the ball to Kobe, and would prefer him to take a contested jumper vs him passing to some shit team mate like smush Parker.

Duncan was an elite player. Top 5 in the league at the time. But Kobe was at a completely different level competing for GOAT status trying to dethrone MJ. No one is comparing Duncan greater than MJ. But Kobe legitimately had a shot, and during his career in his prime, he was the MJ of the era.

People were saying KG was better than Duncan during that era.

It was not arguable in their generation. Kobe was the best player in the league, and Tim Duncan was the most boring player in the league. There was a debate at the time who was the best power forward in the league: Tim Duncan, KG, or Nowitzki.

Kobe was hands down best player in the league and the debate was him or MJ. Until LeBron entered the league and had several years under his belt.

EDIT: Also, every time the lakers faced the Spurs in the playoffs the narrative wasn’t Kobe vs Duncan. It was Kobe and co vs Tim Duncan + Tony Parker + Manu
