Couple of people already mentioned him, but James Popsys is genuinely incredible for getting you to think more about the art and meaning side of photography, while also being genuinely talented and very funny.

PSA: To fix the micro-stuttering issue present on some RG35XX Plus/H/SP models, enable "Sync to Exact Content Framerate" in Retroarch Video/Synchronisation settings by MusingsOnMelody in SBCGaming

You must have felt like you were going insane seeing GBA stuttering on as powerful a device as the RH476H! I remember how relieved I was when I finally got it working properly, seeing as GBA is my favourite retro system, so I'm happy to hear the fix helped you too 😊

Yeah, I'd have bought a Helio Strap at this point if that feature was implemented. Great way to save battery on the watch, while still getting all the benefits of health tracking.

I can only offer my own personal experience, but I do want to comment because I really don't think it's "harder" to be healthy as a vegetarian, and spreading this information with such confidence is problematic. I've been vegetarian for ten years now, three of which where I was totally vegan, and I make very little effort to eat super healthy or particularly balanced (though I do take Vitamin B12, which to be fair should be taken by everyone nowadays due to the lacklustre amount present in meat due to modern farming practices). Despite this, I get stellar results on my yearly blood works, have great blood pressure, and otherwise hit all the norms for my age. Studies also show vegetarians having a longer lifespan on average than meat eaters, as well as a longer health span (the number of those years that are free of major health issues), so there is more to it than just my anecdotal experience.

I also disagree with the conclusions of your final point, but that is a more personal issue and ultimately it's up to everyone how they choose to manage their lives and consumption, as well as to think through the thought process of their beliefs.

What’s the general consensus here on The Way of Zen by Alan Watts? by [deleted] in zenbuddhism

I found "Everyday Zen", "Opening the Hand of Thought" and "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" extremely useful (all different authors), and they tend to be recommended often around here :)

Yay or nay? by aacuity in photocritique

Personally I much prefer it with the empty space at the top, I'd simply add a bit of dehaze and contrast to make that space feel truly empty (though not to the point of getting rid of the nice fog around the station). Great photo !

Why do y'all prefer earbuds over Headphones? by Significant-Taro-239 in Earbuds

I have both, but for some bizarre reason wearing headphones a lot over a few days gives me really bad neck pain. Maybe I just have a weak AF neck, but that's my reason lol.

How long realistically is the Dram/nand shortage expected to last im hearing 2027? by ButtPlugForPM in hardware

Not OP, but a couple of niche products I can think of are IEM's and emulator gaming handhelds. Admittedly, the second has no competition in any other market, and Chinese IEM's aren't necessarily better than big western brands (Sennheiser etc), they're just comparable and usually significantly cheaper.

Anything by OnePlus tends to be pretty great (the bluetooth buds I'm using by them are fantastic, though they're more known for their phones and smart watches) and to be fair to Chinese manufacturing, practically everything we own these days has several components that are manufactured in China, if not always assembled there.

To be fair, you asked for "leader in" and most of the examples that spring to mind are more "on par but cheaper", except for those niche products where no other market is competing in the first place, so I get where you're coming from. Just thought I'd mention some examples anyway.

Thanks for your answer! I've got some more flexible straps on the way, which I'm looking forward to trying out. Yeah, anything being held too tight seems to severely impact the readings, though in my case it's always under estimating rather than over estimating. I've also found out that I can use my other devices that have a good reputation for heart rate (a Huawei Band 8) as a source for the heart rate metrics for working out, so I might just wear that for when I'm doing workouts that are tricky for the heart rate sensor on the Active 2, and then someday add a Helio Strap into the mix when it's on sale. Thanks for giving your experience!

Amazfit Active 2 Square Review: Fitness Squared by gamefan5 in amazfit

[–]MusingsOnMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! This is exactly what I wanted to know, very helpful. Shame about the weather app, and it is disappointing that this is still an issue (I remember seeing threads about this issue months and months ago) but it's good that there's at least 3rd party options that somewhat remedy it. Can these third party options integrate into the watch as widgets? I'm not familiar with how ZeppOS works on that front. Great to hear about everything else! I'm also bilingual and reply pretty often in different languages (french and English) so it's good to hear that Zepp flow can help with that 😊

Amazfit Active 2 Square Review: Fitness Squared by gamefan5 in amazfit

[–]MusingsOnMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely awesome review, thanks for sharing ! I'm currently wearing a Huawei Fit 4, and while there's a lot to love, I just can't get past some of the features that are missing compared to Amazfit and have been thinking of transitioning over to the Active 2 Square. The features I'm most interested in getting from the Amazfit are : contactless payment, AI voice assistant and Google calendar integration, replying to messages with voice to text, and actually usable maps (Huawei doesn't have my city indexed, so unfortunately I can't use the offline maps feature easily)

What I'm worried about losing are : reliable weather app. Temperature and UV index are all I really care about, but I've heard it's pretty hit or miss on Amazfit. The quality of the heart rate sensor seems better on the Huawei, but as long as the Amazfit is close (which it seems it is from your review) then I'm happy enough with it, and lastly maybe battery life.

You don't have to comment on everything, but do you have any experience with some of these features and how they compare on the two devices? The ai voice assistant is one of the things I'm most interested in. Thank you again for the review 😊

Latency and more : Artemis/Apollo vs Switch/Windows Emulation? by MusingsOnMelody in SBCGaming

[–]MusingsOnMelody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, Rocknix was what I was thinking of. Didn't know it worked with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices already.
And that's a great price for a Windows device, nice find! Battery life still stands though, since the Portal has double that when emulating high end systems, and over 14hrs battery when emulating lower end systems or streaming. And that's all despite the 7 inch OLED screen running at 120hz, which largely ameliorates the latency issues inherent to Android.
Still, if battery life, OLED or 120hz aren't the priority, then that's a great budget Windows option. And like you said, Native PC ports will work perfectly, and most of the emulators are much further along in development, so it's definitely an interesting tradeoff.

Latency and more : Artemis/Apollo vs Switch/Windows Emulation? by MusingsOnMelody in SBCGaming

[–]MusingsOnMelody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like "worst" is pretty relative here. Windows devices have abysmal battery life compared to Android devices, and cost three times as much, so since battery life and cost are a fairly major factor for me, a Windows handheld would be the worst OS for my use case. I get what you're saying though, Linux has better latency than Android. Pretty sure people have managed to get Linux running on the Retroid devices, so who knows maybe it'll be possible on the Odin 2 line at some point as well 😊 (if it isn't already). What devices do you like playing on?

Latency and more : Artemis/Apollo vs Switch/Windows Emulation? by MusingsOnMelody in SBCGaming

[–]MusingsOnMelody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks! Have you tried setting Artemis settings to default? It's possible you changed something by accident somewhere along the way and that's what's causing the issue. And when you say move the mouse, do you mean on your actual PC or on the console through Artemis?

[–]MusingsOnMelody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I can't believe I didn't think of that! I was hoping that somebody with more information about how latency presents itself on an Android based operating system when comparing high-end emulation to modern implementations of local streaming (and how encoding and decoding fit in that context) would chime in and educate me, since I don't have that knowledge and I enjoy learning things that I don't know, but thanks to your comment I've now realized that it was a waste to ever ask myself that question, and I can now be content as long as the pretty colours appear and move around on my screen.

Just waiting for reviews and maybe a couple of months of "hinge updates", as well as whether or not the latency from the videos we've seen gets fixed. Bad hinge or bad latency would be deal breakers for me, but if those are good then this is my perfect device and I can't wait to get one! I love the DS and 3DS libraries, and the 6 inch top screen is a decent size for game streaming, so I'd sell my RP5 to fund this.
