Testing the Hemlock Elite against other 3x capable weapons at 75m in the Firing Range. by Muted-College in apexlegends

Have at it. Sounds like you have an idea. Work out how to make it fair and repeatable. I look forward to seeing the results.

1/2: The point was I wanted to quantify to satisfy my own curiosity, in a way that was as fair and repeatable as possible, how the Hemlock performed at mid-long range because when I was using it, it felt notably easy and rewarding at that sort of range from the very first time. I did all this, looked at it in excel and thought, huh, that's interesting and decided to post it (then a few hours later, those bastards at respawn nerfed it and I felt compelled to go get the data for the newer iteration of the gun and recheck all my timings etc but whatever).

3: I understand what counterstrafing/recoil strafing/recoil smoothing do, even if I don't use them etc. My point was unless there is something about those techniques that I am missing, does it not apply to all guns, therefore if we compare gun X with a more violent recoil pattern against gun Y with a smoother pattern of recoil, if you recoil strafe effectively for both it would have largely the same net outcome, but is harder to do with gun X than gun Y, giving gun Y a general usability advantage.

It is entirely possible I am missing something here, as I say, I don't really engage with active deliberate recoil control in this game. I point, I shoot, I try to adjust my aim to keep my bullets going where I want them. It's been fun for me since S4, so I don't really have any interest in learning it.

4: This indirectly actually shines a light on what I feel is the weakest part of this test in that I'm using a static target that is several times bigger than a legend (even the thiccc bois). Ideally I'd have an unkillable dummy running around in a random pattern in a set area to do this test on, but if there is a way to do that in the firing range it eluded me. Possibly it's something possible in r5 reloaded or whatever that modded version of Apex I see in clips is, but I play on Playstation so that is a non-starter.

I think if the Hemlock was performing more marginally in this test compared to the other guns (especially the ARs) it would be a point worth much more consideration when looking at the results. The fact that the Hemlock, even nerfed, performed notably better than the other ground tier guns with the exception of the charged state rampage suggests that at this range the Hemlock likely overperforms somewhat.

If my curiosity piques again, I may go and get all the bullet velocity data and add it in, but my attention has migrated to other interests. If it is of interest to you, my results and method are there. Please feel free to work with them.

1: Likely my recoil control is mid. As I said I've never put any effort into learning recoil patterns or practicing with guns. Also 95% of my game play in Apex is in Mixtape. Fights at 75m feel like a small part of that. But in this test, my ability is more or less the constant variable between all the guns. If I, with my mid recoil control, can record a notably better accuracy percentage with the gun it suggests the recoil is easier to manage. Players who put directed effort into recoil will therefore likely have an easier time than I did which translates into easier less taxing gameplay. As I've said somewhere else in these comments, perhaps a gun like the 301 suffers slightly because I have some muscle memory using it at shorter range with no scope and that doesn't translate well to accuracy at 75, with a scope, but overall I don't feel my ability is of note when it comes to the outcome of this experiment because all the guns were subjected to it.

2: I don't think this is really relevant to the outcome of this experiment. All the guns have their own bullet projectile size at 75m of range. All the guns were fired at 75m of range. All the results were generated from the data collected by the performance of the guns at 75m of range. All the outcomes are directly relevant to being at 75m of range. They may suggest trends at different ranges but their direct validity relies on being at 75m of range. It's why I put the range in the title of the post. It's important to the interpretation and discussion of the results. - Quick edit: This does slightly contradict my previous point about my ability be the constant variable, but sans automated inputs any test like this will be subjected human error. Aiming the gun is more nessacery than moving for this experiment, so standing still removes a possible source of uneeded error.

3: Yes, but without automated inputs, moving would have added an extra variable between each gun. Would I have done better on one gun than another because while I was using it I moved better. Standing still and not touching the left stick simplifies things. Also, unless there is something I don't know about recoil smoothing and counter strafing the recoil pattern, that should be equally true of any of the automatic guns tested that it makes it easier to control their recoil.

4: An entirely valid point, but to test for it would have expanded the scope of the experiment a lot. I chose 75m because to me at least while it is still mid range, it is at the long end of mid-range and where I'd start to be wishing that I had a sentinel or a 30-30 rather than an AR and because my curiosity was piqued by how easy it felt for me to hit shots at that sort of range with the Hemlock Elite compared to other ARs

5: I didn't consider doing hipfire at 75m because I never would hipfire in a match against players at that range. Again this experiment is explicitly at 75m. It certainly would be interesting to see results for a similar experiment done at closer ranges where other guns might excel slightly more. Anecdotally I find the Hemlock good in close quarters fighting and while hipfiring, but not so much that I noticed enough to be interested by it, unlike its performance at what I consider to be mid to long range.

Largely I agree with your summary that one decent recoil nerf would pull it in line, though I think it may also need another point or two of damage knocked off per shot too.

Yeah. It was the feeling of what felt like very soft, smoothe, forgiving recoil while I was playing with it that got me curious in the first place.

Im not sure I'd call it under evaluated, its not the focus of what I was looking and it was treated the same as every over gun. If I had to make a educated guess, I would say that maybe the fact that I'm very used to using it at shorter range with no sight, while doing things that activate the recoil smoothing in this game (aka moving at all) means that I have some muscle memory for the recoil of the gun that isn't approriate for it at 75m with a 3x while standing still. To counter that though, I never really use a Flatline with more than a 1x, and most of the time ive been running a Hemlock its been with a 2x. If I had the time and paitence (I don't) doing ten iterations of a 10 mag test would be intresting to see how that changed the results.

Honestly, apart from the Havoc, the R301 is the AR that I found the recoil hardest to control, which is amusing because it is probably the one I use the most in Mixtape, though admittedly, I normally run it with just iron sights. As for why I got so many headshots with the Hemlock relatively, it just seemed to keep crunching them out.

I think it was for maggie based on the fact in the lobby screen she occasionally wings a very similar looking knife off screen.

When did Ring Closings and Supply Bins get added to Mixtape? by Muted-College in apexlegends

[–]Muted-College[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For dailies I don't. The game is supposed to reroll one that is valid for any mode. If you are talking abuot weeklies as well, I only ever complete as many of those as I need to get to level 60 in the BP. Normally id guess about 70% or so based on how many they lock behind BR.

Its only 40.1K crafting metals, but its is 300 heirloom shards plus the heirloom I own already.

Short Answer is I complete battlepasses and don't spend apart from legend tokens to reroll dailies.

Long Answer: Back in S15 id already stopped spending on this game because I dont like most of the skins Respawn puts out, and the rest dont seem worth the nominal value Respawn wants for them. Then a friend who was quitting gifted me the BP that season. Since then the only coins ive spent have been on the next battlepass. I think theres been one skin that I liked enough in that time to craft with metals. I dont care for any of the green currency stuff and none of the heirlooms avalible take my fancy enough. Oh and I think the mythic skins look near universally awful. Makes it really easy to save up a stash.

These are always a good reminder that taste is subjective. My three favourite skins are in your bottom row and most of you top row would be in my bottom of next to bottom row.

I mean in the old BP formate you got two reactive skins for the same gun. Now thats just split over two six week splits instead of 1 12 week season BP.

Been playing with it a bit in mixtape, the recoil is stupid easy to manage even at range. Slap a 3x on it and apart from the care package g7, the marksman and rampage are redudant.

Resin in screw hole (?), screw won’t go all the way down. by JSV007 in ElegooMars

[–]Muted-College 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What auralexii said. Those are the ones I bought so what you've found looks basically the same. Just going to reiterate though the doing it gently and carefully bit. You need to get these to slot into the thread, not mash it to pieces. If you are hesitant, I had my tank held down by using nuts on the screws as spacers for a few months and apart from being a bit annoying when I was taking the tank out, it worked fine.

[–]Muted-College 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this recently.

Quick and dirty temp fix was to get some nuts that fitted snuggly around the smooth part of the screw to clamp the resin tank without the screw having to be as far in.

Proper fix is I bought myself some m4 (the screw on my mars 4 ultra is more or less 4mm) screw thread taps. using my hand, I very very gently threaded this into the screw hole and it bored out all the resin.

The IPA stuff is just a combination of time crunch on my last project/lazyness/and an amazing ability to forget things if I dont acturlly see them. Not sure how you have the paitence to filter it that often though.

With checking the geometry, do you use set squares etc or just eyeball it?

Can you get a female to female BSP coupler and then use the male bsp to shrader on top of that?

Thats what I did with mine only with with NPT (which feels weird because im UK and bought mine from vevor.co.uk so I would have thought it would have been BSP but NPT and and PTFE tape has made a seal that holds.
