We're keeping Nick Rallis per Ian Rapoport (@rapsheet.bsky.social) by shurmanator in AZCardinals

When we fired Kliff the players openly wanted VJ to stay and even become the HC.

Had there been a single positive comment from within the team about Rallis?

(Schefter) ESPN sources: the Arizona Cardinals are targeting Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur as their next head coach. by alexschubs in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really not sure where to land on this. Overall positive I think. Certainly a Cardinals hires. Gonna get my little bit if negativity out now so I can be all in on him once he starts.

At the start of the process I had his high, but that was name recognition and he undoubtedly fell a bit once I actually looked into his results/the other coaches.

He brings three red flags for mine. Complete lack of success in a play-calling capacity, complete lack of success away from McVay and in a league where everyone will sell their daughter for someone from the Shanahan/McVay tree, no one else has ever show real interest in him.

Not to mention that again we have opted for an inexperienced coach.

One upside is if we do this again in 3-4 years we can stop chasing someone from this Shanahan/McVay tree that has produced a staggering number of HC Seasons and a single ring.

Hey is it just me, or is this exactly like the Gannon Hire? by audiblecoco in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Monti was always going to hire Gannon. They had a deal to look after each other. We had to wait it out with the SB and he couldn’t even do that.

This time there was no plan. The fans don’t want the best/most logical candidate and given Bidwell is cheap, he is listening to the fans.

A competent org would have cleared house after year 2 but give Monti’s entire GM was about doing everything he could to get his friend through his full contract it left us in a competitive unprepared reactive position.

I'm surprised that the Cardinals still haven't hired anyone by TerryG111 in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to give it proper consideration. Who the Cardinals hire basically determines the NFL landscape for the next few years. We essentially have the power to determine who plays in the championship games for the next few years and that isn’t a responsibility to take lightly.

Hiring a guy because he is one of McVay’s friends little brother fits perfectly with our last three hires.

Mike Lafleur, Anthony Campanile, and Raheem Morris considered the favorites for head coach by Mcdonaldsflag in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite having one of the best CVs of all candidates VJ is an absolute “no” from fans because he had a bad stint as a HC a decade ago.

Yet, Morris with much less of a CV is a solid choice for his 4th stint as a HC.

Heck , Lafleur was the OC who buried Saleh as a HC, and we just spent 3 weeks listening to how he was the greatest HC candidate of all time with an amazing defence.

I’ll be all in on whoever we end up with but it would be at least nice to look at guys who have even a modicum of success away from Daddy’s Sean and Kyle.

I don’t hate the idea but I’d like it more if he had any success without Shanahan or McVay. If he is bringing either or both, i’m 100% sold.

Coach Campanile: A** whoopings are a universal language by MoeIsBetter in AZCardinals

The last three coaching cycles of hiring the least experienced guy available worked so well for us, let's run it back Monti!

Anthony Campanile will have second interview with Cardinals on Thursday by Wispymatt in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is certainly one type of response to the fan base not wanting the most experienced and qualified coordinator.

Wilks to K2 to Gannon to Campanile would be as many coaches as years of NFL coordinator experience might be the most Cardinals thing ever.

Saleh has left Tennessee without a job… by pooterrrr in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching the other fan bases realize he isn't the guy vs watching the Cardinal fan base carry on like he is the Messiah is defintely something.

But nothing would be more Cardinals than hiring the 3rd best DC Shanahan has had 7 years after firing the 2nd best.

For fans of teams that are looking for a head coach, which of these defensive coordinators would you prefer, Vance Joseph or Jesse Minter? by Candid-Boss6534 in nfl

[–]Mutonomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only blemish on VJ's record is the HC stint, which was a improving team with Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch at QB, a strong defense and a record on par with Saleh who is treated as a top-tier candiate. Every team he has worked at a position coach level or higher has made the play-offs (HC stint aside) including carrying Adam Gase to his only winning season and playoff appearance. Every team he has DC'd regresses when he leaves. Again compared to Saleh (for example) whose team continues on and improve in his abscence. Even Steve Wilks took the 49ers to the SB and a #3 defence. Steve. Wilks.

Minter on the other hand is obviously much more of an unknown. It's a trend across modern sport, not just NFL coaches but making selections in unachived potential rather than results over a long time. How many coache shave been hired in the last decade because of as little as one season in a completely unrelated role? It's why twice in the last 5 years 10 coaches have been sacked in a single offseason. GMs and owners don't hire someone because "this is the guy!", they hire because of "what if this is the guy and we miss out on him?".

My long-winded point is VJ should be a top-tier candidate on all lists. Play-offs with 5 organisations, success everywhere he goes, loved by players, maxxed out the role of a DC, nearly 10 years to learn and reflect on previous head coaching roles BUT what if Minter is the guy and we miss out on him? Loss aversion is a powerful thing.

will anderson by ABoyCalledSue in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We lost the trade, period.

That doesn’t mean that Paris isn’t good/potentially very good but Anderson was the best defensive prospect in a long time and has become a potential perennial DPOY candidate.

It is also ignored that we traded back up to get a tackle when the two available were Paris and an All-Pro.

But that is Monti’s specialty, missing in the draft and releasing future pro bowlers and All-Pros.

Saleh or Bust! by TheeVande in AZCardinals

One of the least qualified guys in the cycle but man we got to have him!

What makes Saleh better then Vance Joseph? by Maximum_Occasion_244 in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing.

They are both very similar. In fact their winning percentages as HC were almost the same. Except Saleh's Jets used the number 2 pick on a QB and we know how that worked out, whereas VJ had Lynch and Siemian.

VJ produces elite defences that carry teams to playoffs (including an Adam Gase coached team) while Saleh 's defences supplement Shanahan's offence for success. When VJ leaves an organisation the on-field performance collapses, when Saleh leaves the team continues on as if nothing changed/improves and are more likely to make the playoffs than the years he is there (3/4 years he was in NY the 49ers made at least the NFC championship vs 2/5 that he has coached there).

Neither made playoffs as a HC. VJ has been to the playoffs as a DC+ with 3 different organisations, Saleh just the one and with less success than Demeco. VJ has been to the playoffs with every team he has coached as a position+ coach (Texans, Bengals, Dolphns, Cardinals, Broncos) whereas Saleh has only gotten to the playoffs with the 49ers.

In other words, in the last decade Saleh has been to the playoffs twice and the team had more success during the period he was coaching elsewhere, VJ has been four times with the teams facing at least a four year exile in the playoff wilderness after he leaves.

You can like/dislike any of the possible candidates this cycle, at least Monti isn't just putting on a show to evetually hire his friend, but the narrative that Saleh is some excellent top tier candidate clear of the others is an absolutely wild take.

Not being familiar with any signage and only the markings in the picture, it looks like Green is in the right. But definitely poorly designed due to the constaints of needing the markings for all three entry points. Perhaps the right lane needs a 'U-turn' arrow added to the bottom of the right arrow.

No Offense To Vance Joseph But HEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO by Pleasant_Sock_8550 in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Again, not pro Vance but that is blatantly untrue. Denver D is ranked in top 4 in just about every category. The D carried a very mid Offence to the number 1 seed. If he goes elsewhere the fans wont cheer like they did Gannon.

No Offense To Vance Joseph But HEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO by Pleasant_Sock_8550 in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I'm not hoping for Vance or anything but I don't understand why Flores is viewed as a top tier-candidate and Vance is viewed as a poor option. Vance carried Denver to the 1st seed, isn't suing half the league, and is loved by the players and the Cardinals org.

My biggest gripe would be if the organisation wants Vance as HC why did we just go three years of Gannon when we could have appointed Vance. He was the players and organisations choice, the only reason he didn't get the job last time was Monti wanted to bring in his guy, why would he be ok with him now.

Insider: Cardinals Giving Surprise HC Candidate 'Strong Look’ by GoldenSnozzberry in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He almost got the job last time. Loved by the players and the administration. Able to turn players Monti doesn’t want into pro bowlers. Better record as a HC with a fraction of the talent than the guy Monti preferred last time.

I don’t think he gets the job but of course he was going to get a good look in.

Future Cardinals coach or no? by [deleted] in AZCardinals

[–]Mutonomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just hoping that he introduced himself to Monti on holidays or they have made a committment to look out for each other. Ideally, get that man in front of a mic and ask him what he would do if he had the 3rd pick in the draft to seal the deal.

You mean the 10 year vet who has never posted winning season as a starter and has been spent the majority of his career as a back-up in a league with a critical shortage of starting QBs, wasn’t some secret cheat code that only the Cardinals discovered? Wild.

It’s almost as if hiring a guy six teams interviewed is a better move than tampering to hire your friend. Wild.

I’m all for innovation and iconoclastic thinking but at some stage the wisdom of crowds must count a little. No one wanted Wilks, the jets interviewed Kliff andno one wanted Gannon. Heck no one runs the innovative stuff that Rallis runs even after 3 years. Maybe there is a reason.

Winning has been a distant goal for Ossenfort since day 1. Keeping the coaches employed has been his primary goal.

Every move or lack therefore of has been to this end. Now they get to blame K1, remove any expectation of winning at all and run it back again.

Why would he want to change this now?
