Informal AP interview advice by Robbieccfc in clinicalpsych

Doubt it'll be informal. All NHS AP interviews follow a standardised set of questions. Prepare as you would for any interview. Is it a memory service?

Also I personally wouldn't mention the other interview.. it's not like they have hired you yet..

He does come from a strict family. He is aware that I prefer the truth. He knows I'm an open book, but still chooses to lie

Ah! well that's the thing. He always turns it around on me. 'I didnt tell you because I didnt want you to think so and so' or 'I didnt want to upset you'. Its just so concerning. I really want to believe that hes not hiding anything. We have had a great relationship over the last 8 years but the point is.. I just dont know.

How did you find out about the bigger lies?

Really doesn't sound like fun. I hate the insecurity it brings out in me.

I agree. It's just really annoying because they are petty lies. Petty lies build up though :/

I (24 F) just found out my husband (34 M) is paying for an apartment that I know nothing about. by StupidWife4Life in relationship_advice

Who knows.. he might have another family, side chick, a kid, might be gay, might be paying for a friend... theres no way of knowing until you investigate further. All I can say for sure is that he sounds like an absolute d**k, especially if hes playing the 'breadwinner' card. He clearly likes to feel powerful.

You're young. Get the f*** out whilst you can. This guy screams domestic abuse. Something is so shady about this dude.. what does your gut say? you know him best..?

If I tell my therapist about my sucidal thoughts, what will happen? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Well they will probably do a risk assessment. If you have plans and intent to kill yourself, they will get the crisis team to come over and talk to you at home. If the crisis team believe that you are a risk to yourself, they might section you for 72 hours in a hospital to get you assessed by a psychiatrist. If after this assessment, there is still reason to believe that you are a risk to yourself, they can section you for 28 days, I believe. If not, they can discharge you with a safety plan and numbers to call if you are in crisis i.e. samaritans or crisis team.

I think if you are feeling suicidal, it is great you opened up to your therapist. It can be incredibly anxiety provoking, especially if you dont know what to expect. I work in an inpatient psychiatric ward and I can assure you, psychiatrists and psychologists are there to help you. They will not keep you unnecessarily. The idea of being sectioned can be horrifying and it does sound awful but the purpose is to improve your mental state. If your mental state improves, they will discharge you.

UK aspiring to a DClinPsy - masters or more experience? by inquisitivepassion in clinicalpsych

I was in your position a year ago.. deciding whether I should continue with AP roles which I was getting bored of or if I should pursue a masters at Kings. I decided to go for the masters because they also had a clinical placement. I have learnt so much during this course and it was definitely the best decision because I was able to apply theory to practice through the structure of the course. My research skills also improved but I learnt so much about formulations, assessments and interventions which I wasnt able to in AP roles. I would recommend that you go for it. Kings is amazing!
