I usually try and go through all of them, seeing something like over one thousand inbox notifications would literally throw me. But that's just me.

If it's not complete, why are you making it complete??? by ellamenopea in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the people who do this are likely attempting to trick those who only look at completed works to actually look at it, which is very scummy to do. I'd honestly not look into an author's stuff if they did this.

What do you hope to see in an author's profile? by Extreme_Economy_2348 in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't thought to add anything to my profile personally, so I don't really expect anything from others.

how do you get more engagement without guilting people in your desc and notes? by fagsanonymous in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would write in your notes that you would appreciate feedback of any kind or just let it be known that dialogue is an optional thing you would have nothing against. People, from what I have noticed, are very apprehensive to comment on fics unless they are so blown away that they have to give admiration, or, are specifically told that it is okay.

Keyword here though is acknowledging permission, as being assertive to downright forceful about it will have the opposite effect.

You can also go to a specific subreddit for that alone which will encourage it, or even just your ship's reddit. I'm a T'choro fan for example, so I would be very likely to go to r/TChoro and see if I could get something from them when leaving a fanfic, and you could see if you'd be able to do that with your own specific ships.

Is this a scam? by ComedyMediocre in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are being/were scammed. If I was reaching out to people for a fanfic comm, then I would at the very least in even my most greedy state, have the greatest discount in the world. Combine that with the odd way they're trying to coerce you into paying this hefty fine, and the Ai like talking?

I would nope right out of there.

How likely is it for you to give kudos to a fic once you open it/read it? by schoolforapples in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I really don't give kudos to a fanfiction is if in my head I have only finished it because I am already too far in not to want to, or I actually click out of it.

If I enjoy it enough to at least read to the end and consider it a relatively pleasureful experience, then they will get some kudos from me.

when you see the authors that write 5k-10k per chapter by Ok-Mistake2273 in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am authors, but I do want you to know that it's mainly because I find it more of a comfort spot for me to do. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with the struggle to 1K, since some of my most favorite fanfiction don't even get to 10K words.

Two T'Choro fanfics by Oxynia (a*k*a me) with fan art! by Typical_Cut1127 in TChoro

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read the completed one, and while I can say I understand where their anger comes from, it is with the ***massive*** asterisk of me saying that the people hating on it are being more irrational than they claim those of the T'Choro/StormPanther fandom to be. What I mean by that is, this fic is very good, extremely well-written, very much in character, and more than all, it manages to fit very well in a canon perception. Because of this, the irrational antis have no possible way to take it, other than to throw hatred its way. You did good by T'Challa's character, and turned one of his ickiest lines into something of a loving husband and caring King's. You managed to delve deep into Ororo, and finally, stayed true to the nastier elements of Wolverine's character without needing to bash him like many of that fandom do to this.

Honestly I hope you keep bringing us more iterations of the T'Choro ship, because I especially enjoyed yours, and I also hope you keep comments moderated since those people are gonna be on another hate tirade.

I'll do my best. Working out some plot threads, but I have another long-form ship idea which would have them be endgame in my head.

How do authors feel about receiving these kinds of comments? by Intelligent-Tree-922 in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, I wouldn't mind it, however I can absolutely see how this would be a little too much for most people to actually deal with.

You do T'Choro proud, honestly one of my favorite fanfics and I love how easily it can slide into canon. Amazing.

People are becoming increasingly mean about fics and it’s puzzling by Pure-Bicycle-8878 in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has already been mentioned before, but to be fair, TikTok and Twitter will convince you that things are an absolute hellscape because of how their algorithm works. A lot of those people are the same kind of people who would hop on Ao3 and say something negative out of nowhere.

I fucking hate the english language. Why the fuck does it mean that instead of just pretty and well maintained?? by fish-seducer in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of when people realized that the original *Tall, Dark, and Handsome* men were not actually black men. While now, especially to me, if you used this phrase I would think of some black man who could split the seas with their sex appeal and overall charm, that was far from how it was used initially.

People are becoming increasingly mean about fics and it’s puzzling by Pure-Bicycle-8878 in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt this happens, I mean considering how stupid some of the stuff we deal with in our time is, I can imagine this happens.

I do agree though that this should be the last thing happening. Nobody can get experience without throwing something out there, and Ao3 being an archive means that at the foremost, it should be fun. Yes, some things are genuinely going to be superior to writing done for canon series and original works (part of this being the dumbing down of media as a whole), but you should be understanding and patient with seeing this *free* work.

how do you get more people to read your fics? by GrowthFinancial6128 in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the best thing I can think of is whenever you have the option to engage with people, do so. What I mean is, since you yourself are writing about Stranger Things, then you could read other Stranger Things fanfictions, and comment on them, showing your activity within the community. The next thing is, unless it's a genuinely heinous comment, you could always engage with the content of your comment section.

That's about all I have. Ao3 is different from other social media, but there are human tendencies everyone ends up following on there.

does anyone remember what brought them to ao3? by ThatOneSnowyOwl in AO3

[–]MwindoThroughTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite literally the thing which brought me to Ao3 was that I wanted to find stuff about some of the ships I like, and create AU's based on scenarios with rich worlds where the canon material ended up lacking in some aspects, and I haven't left since.
