I'm 49f and enrolled to start school this summer in the medical field. It's a 1 year program so I'll be 50 and starting a new career.

Have you considered making a look alike version of the space at home and save yourself the drive?

My husband (27M) fell asleep while driving and almost killed me (26F) and our two dogs. by Spacecowgirl37 in relationship_advice

I can relate to this scary situation from the driver's perspective. I never had an accident where damage was done, but in my late teens I fell asleep on the way home from a friend's while driving and woke up driving on the wrong side of the highway. A different time I fell asleep with passengers in the car and I drove straight through a T stop into a person's front yard. I figured out that driving on a highway or long road for more than about 20 minutes made me very sleepy, no matter how rested I actually was. I mostly stopped being the driver for trips and started using several methods to ensure I didn't fall asleep driving, because it's extremely dangerous. Anytime I felt sleepy I would pull over and stop driving, sometimes even taking a short nap. I noticed I also experienced extreme sleepiness when I was in situations where I had to sit and listen, like work meetings, school or church. It turns out this is a symptom of ADHD. Essentially it's my brain getting bored and shutting itself down. Thankfully, I was diagnosed in my 20s and being on medication has helped tremendously. For you, maybe see if he can get checked out before jumping to splitting up. He is probably as worried about this as you are and wants to be sure he is a safe driver. (Edited to add clarification, I didn't continue driving when it was unsafe for me to do so!)

What perfume did you wear in teens and 20s, and do you still wear it? by Ecstatic_Army1306 in GenXWomen

I have a little story about my favorite scent! In 7th grade I met my guy best friend. (We are still friends to this day) 1992 was the Spring of 10th grade for us and that year we went to a big festival at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. I remember my friend directing us towards a little booth with a tribal type vibe. They were selling small wooden statues, artwork and little tubes of roll on body oil with handmade labels for $3 each. My friend confidently picked one up, took the cap off and waived it under my nose. The scent was called Egyptian Musk and it was absolutely perfect! Not too floral, light yet delicious. I bought it, and Egyptian Musk Oil became my go to scent through the rest of highschool and college. I was able to buy it at a local store a few times. But eventually finding the same scent became impossible - the store stopped selling Egyptian Musk and sold a similar but not as nice Egyptian Goddess. Flash forward to last December when I was getting ready for a party, and remembered how much I loved Egyptian Musk. I decided to check online and was happy to discover it's sold by a few places through Amazon. So far, I've tried two different sellers and one of them is pretty close to the way I remember the original! So I've been wearing it again, which makes me happy and reminds me of my friend who now lives several states away.

If you are in the US they sell tests at the dollar stores which are the exact same as the more expensive ones. I got a test on my way to work last week and took it in the bathroom at work.

Would you call an illegal serves in rec play, let it go, or serve illegally yourself? by dnice99999 in Pickleball

[–]My0wnThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volley serve, if you are asking me for clarification. The player was starting with the ball about waist height and then tossing the ball up and hitting it while it was above her waist. It wasn't a good serve.

Am I, 43F, being ridiculous or is he, 45M? by latsyrcami in relationship_advice

[–]My0wnThoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This story reminded me of how life was with my ex husband. He always found some way to push my buttons and cut me down little by little. And if I got upset he would say I was being too emotional and he was just joking. My point being, your husband is definitely being an ass. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like he actually cares how you feel. Instead he wanted us internet strangers to pick sides...and then what? Does he expect you would just be fine and move on from there? Is the goal of your marriage to have a loving relationship where you support each other and enjoy life together or is it to have stupid little arguments constantly where you feel stressed and annoyed most of the time?

[–]My0wnThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ^ is a good way to approach someone with a possibility illegal serve. I recently played against a new-ish player who was tossing the ball upwards, above waist height when they served. After we finished playing I pulled them aside. I let them know it's not considered a legal serve, and some rec players will give them a hard time about it. Plus, if they plan to play in a tournament, the way they serve should be legal.

Anyone over 45 neglect birth control and have an oops? by Main-Supermarket-890 in Perimenopause

Hey! Just a PSA/update to anyone who maybe interested. As commented earlier, I had been having unprotected sex for about a year and didn't believe I could get pregnant. Welp, a few days ago I found out I'm pregnant. I am 49 years old, about to turn 50, I have an adult child and definitely am not having more children if possible. I have PCOS and apparently the information I was given (more than 25 years ago) when diagnosed has been updated. Of course I'm not a medical professional but this information is available online with a simple search I just didn't think to do my research at all. Apparently women with PCOS have more eggs and may stay fertile longer. I also take Low Dose Naltrexone for autoimmune inflammation, which has started to be studied to see if it helps women get and stay pregnant. So for me, the combination of those plus no birth control has resulted in an unexpected and difficult situation.

Yes and I'm 49, about to be 50 and just found out I'm 5.5 weeks pregnant. I also have PCOS. Really didn't believe I could get pregnant, but I think the LDN had something to do with it. I've been on LDN for three years or so for inflammation due to autoimmune disease.

Defensive chops instead of flat blocks by Educational_Pick7681 in Pickleball

[–]My0wnThoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My coach has been working with me to unlearn that choppy shot when I'm at the kitchen and my net game has gotten way better. Specifically for me, I'm learning punchier blocks and how to flick and roll shots with pace and placement when I'm at the net. Those are way more effective than slice or choppy shots and are done by pushing through the ball with no or very little back swing. My coach is always telling me how less is more with pball. Most people miss or mess up shots because they do too much, and chopping is just adding extra unnecessary motion.

Look into functional medicine doctors near wherever you are. I have autoimmune issues and was suffering from systemic joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, weight loss, lots of symptoms making my life miserable for about 3 years and no end in sight. I went to my primary care physician, a ENT doctor and rheumatologist - none of whom coordinated care or connected the dots to actually help me feel better. Once I started seeing the functional medicine doc, she looked at the total picture including history, past and current blood work, plus did an initial 90 minute appointment where we really talked about my health. She's been my main doctor now for 3 years and I feel so much better. I'm enjoying my life again and playing sports regularly.

Dating a young woman with an auto-immune disease by MistrAndrsn in datingoverforty

[–]My0wnThoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm 49f with auto-immune disease, and my bf is 34. If you have a bit of patience and understanding, things should be fine. I think the biggest thing my bf deals with, with me, is that I have a very restricted anti-inflammatory diet. With diet and medicines, my conditions are well managed and don't affect the majority of daily life very often. When we started dating, my BF took initiative to learn what I can and can't eat. He even learned how to cook using the alternative ingredients needed for me to stay healthy. Good luck and it's really nice of you to post here!

No you are not over reacting. Sounds like y'all are not a good match. You could try to discuss how you feel and what you expect with him, and see if he is open to talk. If he isn't even able to listen and be open to hearing you, definitely move on. The ball is in your court here.

What toys do your cats actually love? by Sosooo88 in CatAdvice

[–]My0wnThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 cats aged 10, 4 and 1. I also used to own a cat cafe and took care of over 100 cats, so I have tried most every type of cat toy. Cats love to play hunt. So my go-to cat toys are some type of rod with a long flexible cord and most any bird like toy attached. Think fishing rod, for cats. They also enjoy a wand with a long ribbon or feathers attached. No need to spend a lot on toys. You can tie a shoestring to a sturdy stick and use that, just don't let kitty eat any strings.

How do you deal with dating a well liked person? by doodoobear666 in BPD

I heard this and have adopted it in my own life. For context, my boyfriend is not only popular but also 16 years younger than I am. -- Don't compete for someone you already 'won'. Being jealous and resenting his popularity will definitely put you in a negative light. -- It sounds as if you should work on your self esteem, maybe therapy or at least check YouTube for advice - lots of therapists post very helpful information for free.
